I've tried deleting/renaming the .blob file, yet it says it's in use by Steam. [editline]2nd June 2012[/editline] any solutions?
Tried to reinstall it?
fuck, I can't even uninstall/reinstall it
delete everything but steam.exe and steamapps?
Installed it on my 2011 Macbook Pro and it runs perfectly after tweaking a few settings. Quite excited for release day so I can reinstall a fresh copy and fully dive into the operating system. BTW, if anyone wants one of the special specific developer previews of Window 8 just PM me. I will not give out the keys, just the ISO.

Make sure you press that; steam might be running from SYSTEM. If you still don't see it, try getting Process Explorer. If you still don't see it, I'll try helping you later when I get on Win8.
Only thing steam runs as system is steamservice.exe
Then try to stop that process.
[del]If any Nvidia users are having issues with freezing on Preview Release, you may want to try to install Windows 7 Drivers, version 301.42, apparently CP drivers don't work so well with RP.[/del] DON'T FUCKING DO THIS. Now this shit happens every 10 minutes
I've got to admit, I do really like the new start menu and those side bars on the desktop. Seems to be a bit buggy with regards to displaying them but it is not as bad as people say. Those preview apps need some major work though. Also need a way of displaying that new start menu on my second monitor permanently.
This is really pissing me off. When I try to install it, I keep getting "Windows 8 installation has failed." I've redownloaded it several times.
What method are you trying to install it?
From the upgrade assistant. I've also tried using a Flash Drive, though and it didn't work.

Portal 2 seems to like crashing after the valve logo but the other games seem to work fine.
Portal 2 seems to like crashing after the valve logo but the other games seem to work fine.
You need to verify its game cache. It should work after you do that.

Laziness, I guess.
Mmm, vista gradient. How have they not noticed this stuff?
Microsoft.
On an unrelated note, quote of the day right here.
Yeah, and how the stupid OS pins everything in the programs installer to the Start Menu. Which is stupid in my opinion.
Because it NEVER did that in any previous start menu...
On an unrelated note, quote of the day right here. Because it NEVER did that in any previous start menu...
Seems one of the reasons people hate Windows 8 is because they don't understand the start screen. It adds those programs to the start menu just like always (unless you untick the option in the installer).
Yeah Windows 8 is working awesomely for me so far except fucking Borderlands god damn it. Everything is fast and awesome and the Start menu is fine.
[del]I must be doing something wrong here. I'm trying to install Windows 8 in a virtual machine (VirtualBox specifically) and during setup it keeps rejecting the product key listed on Microsoft's website (TK8TP-9JN6P-7X7WW-RFFTV-B7QPF). I keep getting an error saying "We couldn't verify the product key. Please check your installation media." Does it need access to my internet connection to properly activate? And if so how would I set it up to be able to do that? I haven't really used virtual machines much before.[/del] Figured it out.
You can give out the keys, it isnt like its going to be active forever. The timebomb in each is still ticking.
Yes I can, but I know people abuse keys in many ways and I'd rather not get involved in that.
Had an eventful experience installing Windows 8. Optical drive broke, and I can't boot from USB. To get around thisI installed it to a virtual machine. In the virtual machine I made a disk image of the virtual drive containing windows, then transferred this to the host and restored it to a physical drive. Much to my surprise this worked and I was able to boot into Windows 8. I have had no problems since, all the games I've installed so far work, and I really like Metro (just a shame you still have to use the desktop for some things)
Yeah Windows 8 is working awesomely for me so far except fucking Borderlands god damn it. Everything is fast and awesome and the Start menu is fine.
weird. Borderlands didn't work in the developer preview but worked in the consumer preview.
