Hmm, I've noticed that this freeze issue does not happen when there's a game running.
Tried it with Cortex Command, GMod, and Metro 2033.
All works well even when they're in the background.
Is there any way to install realtek drivers? I have a 2.1 speaker setup and it doesn't work properly with the default audio driver, whenever I turn bass management on it makes my speakers really quiet.

I've been using the standard drivers off the Realtek site, no issues here, so you may as well give it a shot. Worst that happens, no sound. Best, 2.1 sound.

How did you install them? I downloaded the "64bits Vista, Windows7 Driver only (Executable file)" and installed it, but whenever windows restarted and came back up, nothing was there. No codec, no driver, no nothing.
That's pretty much the best argument you can make, saying "Try it out, you'll probably like it" is the best way to see whether someone likes the UI. What else should we use? All the objective data that Microsoft utilized when they made the damn thing? I presume that can't be used either as "People aren't computers". And while you're retarded alteration of the argument looks retarded, look at the changes Garry makes to Facepunch - they're not as radical, but people go in a fucking frenzy over every single one of them, then settles down. I'm not saying this UI is for everybody, but you're as dumb as the people that might spew "Herr derr tey'll get used to it they jus' afraid of change11!!".
What? Stop with the personal attacks, I'm none of what you are saying about me. "Change takes time" is really not the answer to the problem. Yes people might get used to anything if given enough time, that doesn't mean these things can't be improved or that it is rational to hammer the change into the users' head. We'll see how people like it, but I've seen more disappointment than then opposite so far.
By the way, it's "your retarded alteration", not "you're retarded alteration". Stop calling people dumb.
It is a good thing. If people only dare to make things that will work out for sure, we won't try anyhing new, and thus we get stuck with what we have today, forever.
Well it's a good thing to experiment during development, obviously, but releasing a 'bad' OS should be considered a disaster and not a positive thing for the company. I'm sure MS is confident in what they are releasing, so let's hope that the choices they made are right.
so a shit ton of Windows 8 tablets and computers were announced by Acer
its all on the Verge
they look cool

Generally I get the you're and your stuff right, I didn't notice it there. The last thing wasn't properly phrased either, and I excuse for that.
However, "change takes time" is the answer. Or part of it, at least. Look at what has been released at computex so far: http://www.engadget.com/
It all looks like brilliant hardware, and further more, they all employ not just keyboard and mouse, but a touchscreen as well.
And most of the disappointed people I've seen either didn't try it out (like, they watched a video, and formed an opinion based on that), or didn't use it for some time. What about the original Windows 95 interface? It took some time for people to accept that one as well.

I NEED ONE!
I wonder how powerful most Windows tablets are going to be.
I want one, I just need money :(

Oh trust me I agree that tablets could use from a good touch interface, but there's no way I'll be flailing my arms left and right for a few hours a day on the desktop, so that's where my doubts are regarding metro. It's too tablet-y for me.
I installed the lastest nVidia drivers and changed ownership of all the files in the C:\ drive, and now Metro apps crash on startup. Is there any known fix for this? :(
Those Asus tablets seem to be identical (except for the screen) to their Android tablets. I wonder if it'll be possible to dual boot Android and Windows on them?

Reinstalling would be a pretty good fix if you have a permissions problem as big as this.
Reinstalling would be a pretty good fix if you have a permissions problem as big as this.
What do you mean? I just found the fact that I couldn't modify certain files (such as the hosts file) because I needed "SYSTEM" permission. So I changed the ownership of every file to my user.
Is this horrible practice?
I think if DEFCON was updated and modified a bit to support tablets, and ported to work on win 8, it would make a godlike metro game... god... that would be so much fun

It's not necessarily horrible practice to change permissions of a single file, it is horrible practice to change ownership of the entire filesystem though I would say. I'm not saying this is what is causing your problem, but it's a pretty big coincidence if not. You could've modified the hosts file if you were running your text editor as admin, there's no need to take ownership of the file. Always prefer adding permissions (or using proper elevation techniques) before something more radical.
Seems like my Weather tile doesn't show any live contents any idea why this could be?
The app/program is dutch languaged if that makes a difference.

I've seen a few reports of people saying that it's not working for them, not sure what's causing it though.
Downloading the release preview at the moment so I can start getting used to it as I shall probably be building a new PC when it's released.
Well thats nice, upon upgrading and being told I could keep nothing, I kept everything. All my stuff in windows.old, never had that luck before. Maybe I was just buggering something up before, oh well.

You're right. What was the default owner? I'd like to set things straight again.

Setting my location to the US seems to fix it, not sure what other effects that might have.
From my topic on http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-winapps/metro-apps-crash-on-startup-help/f83d6eba-1918-4688-924d-54c80d34585c
Hello, after installing Win8 x64 RC, Metro apps worked correctly, but desktop OpenGL apps were slow and unresponsive. I installed the latest Win8 nVidia drivers, and the OpenGL apps started working correctly. At the same time, because of annoying permission messages, I changed the C:\ drive and all its files ownerships to my user, and gave it full permission.
I restarted my pc after installing the drivers, and now Metro apps only show the splash screen, then crash.
I tried installing other versions of the nVidia drivers, with the same result.
My GPU is a GeForce GTX275.
Is this a known problem with nVidia drivers?
Or maybe changing the ownership of C:\ is the real problem?
You should never take ownership of the whole C: drive.
So I got a Samsung Series 7 Slate as my main PC today at work... and I got to say that Win8 on a touch device is simply amazing. I can't wait to see what new devices crop up before the official launch.
You should never take ownership of the whole C: drive.
I remember when someone was trying to make root permanent on his copy of Linux and another person trying to explain why he shouldn't be doing that.
I don't see why some people are always in a brute force state of mind.
My two sisters love Desktops and window managing and they scream every time I use the Windows 8 start menu or use fullscreen apps on either my PC or my Mac.
