windows 8 had drivers for my mobo and windows 7 didn't. was kind of annoying getting a LAN driver since i don't have an optical drive
-snip- Am I the only one who can't seem to install the Release Preview no matter what method I try? I've done everything I can think of.

What does it do?
can you make shortcuts to websites in the start menu and change the icon?? if so, probably for that. also, will Windows do another release preview since this clearly has some major bugs? I don't remember if Microsoft typically does multiple RCs or not
What does it do?
I'm trying to get it to download our RSS feed, but our feeds only give one thread at a time. Kind of useless. I don't have any problems with the RC, I don't know why everybody else is. It's obviously a driver issue somewhere.
How does Windows 8 fare on a laptop? Any good? I also hear there's support for multi-touch touchpads in the future (or now?), is this true, and if so is it any good?
I have it installed on my tablet. It works REALLY good. It's fast as fuck, and boots amazingly fast. The only downside is that I can't use Metro 'cos the resolution is 1260x600. There used to be a register hack, but as soon as I apply that Windows just refuses to load. Which sucks. But besides that, it's rather sexy.

Thank fuck you can turn off that silly app switching thingy on the left. It gets in the way of nearly every aero program with a back button.
you can?
Thank fuck you can turn off that silly app switching thingy on the left. It gets in the way of nearly every aero program with a back button.
What program has a back button in that 6x6 square?

The trackpad's not the greatest in the world, but overall it fares better than Windows 7.
What program has a back button in that 6x6 square?
Try using a maximised explorer window on a 42" screen from the other side of the room. Nearly every time I go over to hit back that thing would dump me back into a metro app. [editline]6th June 2012[/editline]
you can?
Right charm, settings, control panely thingy at the bottom, general, disable app switching.
Ah, thank you.

It doesn't make much sense to on the desktop really.
Cool. It doesn't make much sense to on the desktop really.
It was almost at rainmeter levels of redundancy.
the me going on 8 thing worked i got my certification
The program "Speccy" from piriform seem to be causing freezing issues for me. And sometimes my USB ports on my laptop aren't working either (will show a yellow ! mark in device manager) but a restart seems to fix it.
Speecy has been freezing since the DP.
This article sums up exactly how I feel about Windows 8: http://mobileopportunity.blogspot.ca/2012/05/fear-and-loathing-and-windows-8.html

And if you use the other power options button (the > next to the main button) then it's the same. From this article it seems he's primarily using the start screen as his main UI instead of the desktop.
lol what a terrible article i decided to just skim when i saw "disturbing".
From this article it seems he's primarily using the start screen as his main UI instead of the desktop.
The problem is that you have to use both UIs. Windows 8 has dissociative identity disorder.
The problem is that you have to use both UIs. Will microsoft have the balls to kill off the windowed UI eventually or leave it tacked on in its current half arsed state.
