how is it half-arsed? it's basically the same as it was before. i doubt they'll kill the windowed environment anytime soon.
Its the primary UI "apparently" yet its stuffed away inside the metro UI like an afterthought for the sake of compatibility. Its clear Microsoft eventually want a metro only interface, its set up to be safer, easier and more consistant than the conventional interface. They are even influencing developers with vb express's new limitations. They want a clean slate after the convoluted shitfest windows has slowly been turned into and I don't blame them. Frankly any developer that overrides a windows default theme needs backhanding.
And if you use the other power options button (the > next to the main button) then it's the same.
The what?

Oh, okay. I thought you were talking about 8.
Is it ok to upgrade to the Release preview and replace 7? Or should I wait until it 8 comes out.
Is it ok to upgrade to the Release preview and replace 7? Or should I wait until it 8 comes out.
i'd highly advise installing it on a separate partition first. there are some driver issues causing freezes

At least not in the near future. They introduced some very smart desktop organizing features with 7, and I doubt that they're ready to throw them out.

I mean if the windows store picks up an impressive selection of programs.
I just don't understand why people think finding the shutdown button is one of the biggest faults in Win8. At first, it only takes you once to find it. Second, has anyone looked at videos from when people first started to use the Windows 95 - Windows 7 era UI? Most couldn't even find the start button. They just put the shutdown button in another menu.

I think they're completely clear on that the new environment isn't as functional with mouse and keyboard (notice that I'm not talking about the start menu, but all the new stuff). Sure the start menu works rather well in my opinion, but the new way to manage applications (only two snapped at once, and they either occupy 1/4 or 3/4 of the screen) isn't practical with mouse and keybord. The multitasking management doesn't work well with mouse and keyboard either. No matter how the new environment is received, I don't think they'll drop the desktop environment. At least not before touchscreens are absolute standard, and mouse and keyboard something you buy for games - like a joystick, or racewheel.

This is done with laptops and tablets in mind - you usually wouldn't shut down, but would put them to sleep by closing the lid or pressing a button.
I've still got the Metro apps crashing problem, but I found the error in the Event Viewer. That is the most descriptive error I've ever heard "Failed with error: The app didn't start."
That is the most descriptive error I've ever heard "Failed with error: The app didn't start."
Or "ERROR: " and nothing else

Either user permission are mangled and the stuff is owned by someone else or there's some other user issues.
That is the most descriptive error I've ever heard "Failed with error: The app didn't start."
I've had one that said "The app didn't start in the allocated time"

PNG's sometimes specify Gamma values which are interpreted by some viewers and not by others.
Google are actually going to abide by the metro guidelines properly aren't they? or are they just gonna cram a standard full screen chrome into there?
http://blog.chromium.org/2012/06/try-chrome-in-metro-mode.html Finally!
Neat. But it's just a fullscreen chrome.
Neat. But it's just a fullscreen chrome.
I don't really see a problem with that.
A better full-screen Chrome
I don't really see a problem with that.
Thats because you are used to developers doing whatever the hell they want when it comes to windows UI's, metro or GTFO.

I hope they have something like "Metro interface" in their useragent so sites can provide a Metro-like UI.
