So I've installed W8. I really like the feel.
Now just to fix this Res problem. (I can only get 1600x1024) I need to get my normal rez (1980x1080)
Is the Nvdia driver for GTX 560 ti compatible?
1980x1080 is a bit of a weird resolution. Unless you mean 1920x1080
Whoops, Yeah 1920x1080 :v:
This whole time I've been saying 1980 to everyone.
The "fast as shit" boot times are BULLSHIT. Takes just as long to boot as Windows 7.
Are you choosing "Restart" or what? Windows 8 is faster by a huge margin. And why do you suddenly think that it is "bullshit", while everyone else posts fantastic results? Sounds more like you bullshitting.

I call bullshit because it's true... I have seen no improvement in speed over Windows 7. Windows 8 actually takes LONGER because of some 30 second timeout it does, when Win 8 is the only OS on the machine.
On a somewhat different note, I really hope they update Windows Media Center to be a metro application. I just realized how stupid it will be if I click on WMC from the start menu, have it go to the desktop, then have it open fullscreen.

I wonder how they plan to implement it for HTPCs, hopefully we can boot right into it without Metro and the desktop getting in the way.

Let's pause for a moment here.
You're counting the bootloader timeout? :downs: You are aware that's been in Windows for years, it's optional to dual boot in the first place, if 8 really is the only OS installed you don't see the bootloader, you can skip it by clicking an OS name, you can change the timeout period.
Also it's not true at all. Just because you have a fucked up installation doesn't mean everyone else does.

Windows 8 Developer Preview's expiration date has been extended another year: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2671501
is it worth installing as main OS? :o
I'd say it is. Once I fix this damn res problem!
Going on with Windows Media Center - I got bored after the post and made a mockup.

Microsoft - if you're listening, PLEASE do this. Don't half ass Media Center. I don't care how many people don't use it. I do.
I doubt they're going to update media center. Videos, Photos, and Music apps take its place.

What about TV? They pushed it so much in 7 that I doubt they'd just abandon it.
And didn't they say it was still going to be included with 8?

They said it would be in 8, but even currently it's still just the old one.
I could be wrong, but it just seems to me it'd be rather redundant. Not to mention how very little media center is actually used and with stuff like Netflix and Hulu Plus the TV recording in Windows will continue to decline from what is already a tiny percentage.

I agree that most of what is in Media Center is redundant. But if they kill off the TV part, the people with TV tuners will likely be really pissed (And I'm sure that there are quite a few of us looking at a large scale - otherwise they wouldn't have included the feature!)
Who knows. We'll see in the months to come.
I think I know exactly what the new logo needs.

Hm... I think I actually did significantly improve it.

Weren't you just complaining about your installation being messed up? The boot times issues are probably only for you then.
Gah... I hate my fucked-up installation. >_<
If Media Center is going Metro then just make it the WMP Metro app.

No because if I open my porn AVI's then it'd be full-screen keep it to the desktop bro.

The logo looks much better in that colour, and when implemented with the right UI, I could see where they were headed. However, it seems that Windows 8's UI will be somewhat half-assed, and not completely done, so I don't think it'll work in it's current state.

I think the logo colour would have to vary by the application it's being used in. That green works pretty well with the blue used as the dominant colour. I think, for Metro applications especially, the new logo will work really well as long as they colour it correctly for every application they produce.
I don't think it's a good idea to kill one of the most recognizable logos in the world.
I know they REALLY like Metro, but Windows logo is kind of like the diskette logo as the save icon - everyone knows what it means.
Though they did do this once before with Windows XP, and I'm sure people reacted the same way, so I hope they know what they're doing.
Panda, do you have any idea why there was a Windows Update released to extend the evaluation period of the Windows 8 Developer Preview?
The update in question is http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2671501
It postpones the evaluation expiration date to January 15, 2013. Do you think this Might be a red-flag for a postponed beta? or just longer grace period for users to test the Developer Preview for some reason?

I really have no idea. Even if the Beta was going to be delayed and they needed to extend the dev preview, there would be no reason I can think of to extend it a whole year.

Apparently Vista's support got extended too from 2012 to 2017. And 7 from 2015 to 2020.
Because this didn't take long enough:

Dat missing anti-aliasing.
But incredibly useful nonetheless. Much better than iCloud, and probably dropbox as well.

SkyDrive in my opinion has always been better than Dropbox except in one major way. Accessibility. Live Mesh is very "meh" and 3rd party support is pretty much nil.
Now with proper integration, along with the 25GB storage (or more if you pay), unlimited bandwidth, no file expiration (not sure about this, Mesh there isn't but on SD it's 90 day (same as DBox)), and 2GB per file uploads.
Surprised they didn't do this earlier though.
Metro is very ugly, ugh. It reminds me of the Xbox Dashboard layout (current).

If this is true, I'll be ditching Dropbox for SkyDrive.

Comment from the blog states that you'll be allowed to upload up to 2GB files instead of the current 100MB.
Actually if I had time to read it it says so in the post itself. :>
I like where this is going. The only reason I never used SkyDrive was because of its lack of integration with Windows. Now I have no excuse!
