Well I've been away from talking about computers for like 2 years. Yeah, I haven't bought any flash drives since 2010, so I'll probably get a new one soon. And I need a new gpu.
Does anybody have a way to get past the IR hardware screen on windows media center without buying one? Or at least a really cheap solution.

I can not express the raw hatred I have for Microsoft right now :yarr: . They have completely ruined a perfectly good operating system by swapping a perfectly good explorer interface with one designed by children. I was perfectly happy with the explorer interface the way it was, but Microsoft need to complete with apple via an idiotic idea like Microsoft BOB, they call it "Metro" I call it "shit squares". I don't use facebook very often and I don't use twitter at all and I'd appreciate an OS that wasn't build around them.
My point is that "metro" isn't what most people want at this stage, (I've not met a single person who likes it) and the fact that they haven't given a way of turning it off is just pure evil in every sense of the word. What did we do to deserve this sort of punishment?
Because of this I'll avoid Windows 8 as much as I can. I forgot to mention that the logo for Windows 8 is the least imaginative I've ever seen from Microsoft, they my as well have gone back to the logo of 1990s.
I urge anyone who can, to do something about this horrible interface. Email or phone Microsoft, let them know how horrible this interface is and that it shouldn't be forced upon anyone.
Anybody who calls me or anyone else who hates the metro interface a "whining baby" can go fuck them selves with a pedastal drill and remember Windows Vista.

Hate to burst your bubble, but those two websites are two of the most interacted websites currently existing. Integrating with them is a very logical step towards gathering a very large consumer base.
Also, Win8 is a lot larger than just facebook and twitter. E-mails, texts, news, weather, RSS... basically information as whole is represented in a wholly different way (unless you count WinPhone7, which is like the Beta to Win8). Metro Apps and the accompanying store are there to give you new ways to use and interact with your computer.

Newsflash, Genius... Metro isn't Explorer, and the version of Explorer you're used to is still there. Also, you'll be happy to note that, like with XP, Microsoft will likely continue to offer Windows 7 licenses for the next ten years, at least. Do you have a source for that, or are you pulling the information out of a place where light is rare?
XP lasted that long because Vista was a complete failure and MS needed something to stick on netbooks.
EDIT: Rating me dumb for asking for a source and saying the truth, you guys are fucking retarded, just saying.
Windows 8 was fun, but I'm backing out to Windows 7.
I think the metro menu has a place, but not as a replacement. Making it similar to the Xbox's Guide Button would be really cool.

The business sector CAN NOT run on Windows 8 in the current incarnation, because Windows 8 doesn't support the same kind of administration tools that Windows 7 has. Windows 7 will continue to exist for the corporate sector for this reason, among others.

Alright. The domain control tools (for cloning a state across multiple systems for mass distribution) are missing many key functions they had in Windows 7.

Jesus fucking christ, now Windows 8 downloads ads to your PC? That can't be right.
Why is Microsoft using the word "app" it's an Apple word? I mean why not call them programs? "App" just sounds wrong, especially for a windows user.
An app is anything that takes up your whole screen, uses big buttons, and is compatible with touch screens. It's to distinguish from the real programs that still run in your desktop environment.
All applications are under the rightful ownership of Apple Inc.
An app is anything that takes up your whole screen, uses big buttons, and is compatible with touch screens. It's to distinguish from the real programs that still run in your desktop environment.
Cheers, I thought it was a substitute for program.
I understand that it's a great OS, but it lacks the control I have over Windows 7
Care to elaborate? The desktop and everything that came with it is still there minus the start button. Metro itself doesn't have much configuration (which is in no way a bad thing) but the desktop is still very much intact.
, I don't really hate Windows 8, just it's stupid "Metro" interface. I understand that adding facebook and twitter is something "consumers" will love, but I don't want my PC doing things that are out of my control like searching for new feeds.
Haha, what? This sort of thing is only gonna happen if you're using the apps that do it. Your browser isn't downloading the whole internet all the time. Only what you're on and when you're using it. The People app only downloads twitter updates and facebook updates when you run it. The news apps don't have to be installed and, besides, RRS feeds are fucking tiny to download. Either you're just nitpicking or you're still using a dial-up connection. If you're so hellbent on hating it, I'm pretty sure you can uninstall any of the built in apps, in true Windows fashion.
If you're really so concerned about how much data apps are eating, the new task manager shows you pretty bluntly and you can uninstall any of them using more than you want.
Windows 8 be a great tablet OS, but for people like me who use a mouse, it will be hard to use.
You haven't used it, have you. Metro works amazingly well with a mouse. Microsoft should never have said anything about it being optimized for touch because people who haven't used it and have only heard bullshit like that just think, "oh no it's made for touch, mice won't work with it, Microsoft are EVEEEL!!!"
I mean I use the Adobe suite while using Maya or Mocha, with that annoying "metro" eating up resources in background I know switching between other programs will be painful.
Metro will only be using resources if you have metro apps open. The OS itself is less resource eating than Windows 7 in many ways. And, hey, look at this! I agree, the new logo is bullshit though, you have to respect what they tried to do. They wanted to take what they had before and make it relevant to metro and they succeeded. It just looks boring.
Buy I will try to get an RC version to see if it is usable.
Haha I knew you hadn't used it. It makes a bit more sense that you jumped to all these bullshit conclusions about it not being usable.
Vista may have been the fault of the vendors, but it was Microsoft who forced it upon us and tried to hide XP (unless you wanted a net-book).
And yet so many of the worlds businesses, professionals, education facilities, etc. are still using Windows XP.
I'm hoping that there will be a business orientated version which won't have the metro that I can buy.
Most businesses will probably continue to stick with older versions as they do today. Metro itself is not incompatible with business and it has just as much potential as Windows 7 had.
Jesus fucking christ, now Windows 8 downloads ads to your PC? That can't be right.
That's nothing new. Pretty much any major website is gonna be shoving ads down your throat. Loads of free Android apps make their money using massive ads. At least this one actually looks nice. Again, if you don't like it, don't install the app. I'm not saying I'm okay with it. It's just not unique to Microsoft.
Holy shit why did I put so much time into that...
I mean removing the start button is scary enough, but stopping people from enabling it just makes me mad.
The old start menu would be pretty much irrelevant in Windows 8. You can just press the start button and start typing and it searches through your applications much quicker than ever before. Or did you forget that your keyboard has a start button?
If I didn't want a start button I'd use a Mac.
Macs are the only computers without a start menu and are the only viable alternative to Windows. /sarcasm
I know that Windows 7 will still be around, but it's around the same way XP was around when Vista came out, It'll be a bit of an issue for me.
Yeah, which was and still is very much available. Where are you getting otherwise from?
When you create a partition, is it possible to unpartition it afterwards? I want to try Windows 8 but I don't particularly fancy cutting into my new 1TB harddrive. I know it's a lot of space that I could spare but I would hate to have an annoying small partition permanently stuck where I can see it. It's a little petty but still, if the option is there I'd rather take it.
Since we're all dogging on Windows 8, my beefs with Windows 8 are:
-No option to disable the Metro Start Screen
-I can no longer control the spacing between my desktop icons, restricting my desktop use.
-I cannot set custom .ico files for program shortcuts as custom tiles.
-Wallpapers, no matter the file type, get compressed to look like a .JPG saved at half its quality. Windows 7/XP/Vista never did this.
-Release Preview has all the apps removed that came with the Consumer Preview... (You get me hooked on a pinball demo, then just take it away? Faggots...)
-Wallpapers, no matter the file type, get compressed to look like a .JPG saved at half its quality. Windows 7/XP/Vista never did this.
Windows 7 does, in fact. Maybe Windows 8 is a little more aggressive about it, but Windows 7 definitely does it too.
