It's pretty cool, but there's one thing I disagree with - the logo. Not because his logo is bad (I find it quite nice in many of the proposed applications), but he said that the new Windows logo looks awkward on products. That might be true, but his looks infinitely more awkward, in my opinion. And then there's the "Most advanced phone" and stuff... Would be incredibly annoying marketing, in my opinion.
anyone knows a fix for la noire in window 8?
anyone knows a fix for la noire in window 8?
Try running this...supposedly that update fixes it, but I don't have the game so I couldn't tell you.
All my games seem to crash on startup, like tf2, saints row 3, spec ops the line. Looks like I'll need to just go back to 7 for now...was hoping it would be like the Windows 7 RC and run flawlessly for me.

I think his logo is preferable over the current one, but I agree with his marketing campaign.
I wish they would have used the Windows Store logo to begin with, but it wouldn't work with this guy's style either.
I just had a problem with my HTC Radar not connecting, and if it should happen to some of you guys, this worked it out: http://forums.create.msdn.com/forums/p/88904/532894.aspx
Seems like quite a few people have had the problem.
Edit: Why did I post this in the Windows 8 thread? Sorry.
Well seeing as it is MSE re-branded and MS are dropping support of MSE for windows 8 then I would think its the same/better.
MSE is pre-installed in 8 now. It is still supported.
Is it worth downloading and installing the current win 8 preview over 7, or should I wait to buy it?
I mean are most games compatible and is there a significant performance increase and is it buggy?

I thought was Defender. But they look the same now. Microsoft is really confusing sometimes.

I've only tried 3 games so far. Deus Ex: Human Revolution plays flawlessly, Garry's Mod Beta plays flawlessly, Unreal Tournament '99 launches but runs at approximately 15 frames per second.

KotOR runs horribly as well... I think they removed some sort of DirectX backwards compatibility.

I like about half of his proposal. The marketing is REALLY nice (Besides the text, all of the text makes it sound EXACTLY like an apple product). The colors are vivid and confident, and the edges are sharp and modern. The Office logo looks like shit and didn't have any design behind it besides needing another different logo using a parallelogram. 'Surface' shouldn't group together Windows phone and the tablet, it should only group the tablets. Windows phone 7/8 are massively different in practice from surface, and only share the same design language.
Back to the marketing, I still love it when there isn't shitty promotional text.

Seems like just games with steam giving me issues. When I play a game from disk is doesn't give me any problems at all, increases performance even.
That Windows logo makes no sense to me really. When you see it by itself it looks good, but when put into products it looks like shit. Ironically that being one of his grievances of the new logo. The boxes for Windows 8 are a straight ripoff of apple boxes, not including the whole space images thing.
I was running BF3 it was running fine for me, (GT 555M , I7 2.0GHZ )
also portal, gmod , portal, portal 2 , tf 2, mw3
I thought was Defender. But they look the same now. Microsoft is really confusing sometimes.
Defender is apart of MSE now I think in 8. It is still hard as hell to get to it though.
I thought was Defender. But they look the same now. Microsoft is really confusing sometimes.
Yeah, I don't see a difference at ALL between them. :/
Defender is apart of MSE now I think in 8. It is still hard as hell to get to it though.
I had read that MSE it's self is no longer supported in win 8 because Windows defender is MSE, just renamed and with an update you can't even install MSE because it breaks shit if you do.
Yeah, I don't see a difference at ALL between them. :/
That's because it's just renamed.
so I installed the preview, BUT
My graphics card drivers from ATI only had one win 8 driver and it didn't support my card. I was able to install it and everything seemed fine, but in game i get weird graphical glitches and tears. Is there anyway to make the driver more compatible or take a win7 driver and use that?

His Office logo is quite good.

I can live with a window resemblance used in windows 8 but not a fucking "slate".
If anything they should refocus on the windows95-ME logo and make that more futuristic but brings out a bit of nostalgia everytime

Have you tried the default Windows 8 drivers? They might just work fine.

Also, he forgot to "re-imagine" and add logos for Xbox, Bing, and Hotmail, among other things...

I might be talking shit here but I don't really like his design, not only does it remind me a lot of apple (it doesn't help me that the first thing that I saw on there was a screenshot from a mac) but it looks too cold, distant, and alien for microsoft. Just think for a second how all of you grew up with microsoft, it's a homey brand and i'm not talking about nostalgia i'm saying that it's that kind of brand that EVERYONE has used and no-one can live without.
With that said I hate how firstly, he chose images of space, it's cold and lonely in space and that's not something microsoft should try to associate themselves with. Instead the images on the boxes should be of things that we see outside our windows, cityscapes, gardens, neighborhoods that kind of stuff. Another thing I don't really like is his logo, it has potential but his slanted rectangle looks a bit too unnoticeable, at first glance you wouldn't tell that that's the logo of the company which is a very bad thing.
I have more things to say but I don't want to rant forever so yeah, that's what I think.

Well, I agree on some of that. I'll just say that there's a tension between Microsoft products (Surface, WP7 and now to some extent Windows 8) and its branding. I agree on the logo, it's kinda cool, but it doesn't really work. The thing that bothers me about the first screenshot is not that it's from a Mac, it's that Mac OSX is praised for its design and consistency, yet the faux leather (that is becoming more and more prevalent, among other "real-life" textures) is a design disaster (in my opinion). I think that Microsoft is really heading in the right direction, with a design that's more information oriented than iconographic.
One thing I want to say is that the Segoe "Microsoft" looks incredibly sexy. Segoe is a very nice font.
