Windows and Microsoft as brands are considered backward and not cool. Hence this redesign effort.
I had read that MSE it's self is no longer supported in win 8 because Windows defender is MSE, just renamed and with an update you can't even install MSE because it breaks shit if you do.
The installer refuses to let it install on 8.
Is the Windows button shortcuts still usable? for example windows + e opens up a new explorer window
yes
Went back to Windows 7 on the desktop. I was getting a notification that "Your graphics card does not support HDCP and neither does your monitor" and that was the last straw (because they both do and had no issue in 7). There's so many compatibility issues with games and programs that I use that I'm going to wait until things get updated. I'm going to miss the incredibly fast booting though.
Is the Windows button shortcuts still usable? for example windows + e opens up a new explorer window
Yup. In fact, they also added some new Windows key shortcuts. You should also probably read this article if you decide to install 8.
One thing I want to say is that the Segoe "Microsoft" looks incredibly sexy. Segoe is a very nice font.
Anything typed in Segoe looks nice and fits into the modern area microsoft wants to achieve in.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/server-cloud/windows-server/2012-editions.aspx Also Home Server is dead.
Also Home Server is dead.
Good, why would you ever use Home Server? I mean, I guess it was good for coordinating medium-size LANs (~10 PCs), but there's good Linux distros for that.
Take a look at this: http://www.minimallyminimal.com/journal/2012/7/3/the-next-microsoft.html It's pretty cool, but there's one thing I disagree with - the logo. Not because his logo is bad (I find it quite nice in many of the proposed applications), but he said that the new Windows logo looks awkward on products. That might be true, but his looks infinitely more awkward, in my opinion. And then there's the "Most advanced phone" and stuff... Would be incredibly annoying marketing, in my opinion.
I like the idea of the slate in that it's a design concept utilized across Microsoft products and the way it's used for those posters is really great. It just looks horribly awkward. It's way too slanted. I'm not a fan of how soulless it all seems, as well. I mean, it's true, Microsoft's advertising is really bad - trying way to hard to be friendly and all that - but this is almost kind of scary and unapproachable with all of the ominous space images and black and white stuff.
all the windows 8 stuff is genuinely exciting but i have a feeling microsoft is going to suck at marketing it and presenting it to users. i think i might get a windows phone next upgrade anyways. i hate android and i can't really afford an iphone. [editline]5th July 2012[/editline] uh does windows phone 7 still not have gapless playback?? i thought google was the only one that fell down on that one but i guess everyone but apple just sucks at audio. maybe windows phone 8 will have it but at this point this shit is a dealbreaker.
Lol why hate Android? You can play gapless if you buy Winamp Pro for Android ($5)
Lol why hate Android? You can play gapless if you buy Winamp Pro for Android ($5)
Something that should be there by default anyway.
Lol why hate Android? You can play gapless if you buy Winamp Pro for Android ($5)
i don't want an OS where i need to go looking, and spend money on, apps that include basic functionality that should be in the stock apps.
Well, it is stock on Android starting with 4.1. Give Google a break; they built up a completely free phone OS which was only initially released in 2008.
i don't want an OS where i need to go looking, and spend money on, apps that include basic functionality that should be in the stock apps.
I'm not sure why you consider gapless playback such an important feature that you would write off an entire OS based on a lack of it.

I know they're adding it to 4.1 but the operating system still has a myriad of other issues that haven't been fixed(audio latency) [editline]5th July 2012[/editline]
I'm not sure why you consider gapless playback such an important feature that you would write off an entire OS based on a lack of it.
it's such a basic feature for an audio player that there is absolutely zero excuse to not have it anymore.
Yeah the fact that so many modern phones still don't have Ice Cream Sandwich after all this time is ridiculous. And 4.1 is the first Android OS with acceptable GUI smoothness, which is sad
Also, gapless is not the only reason I dislike Android. I could make a big huge list but that's something for another thread.
Yeah, the Android thread, so your list can get hacked to pieces.
Yeah, the Android thread, so your list can get hacked to pieces.
Yeah, people aren't allowed to have preferences. And the times I've used Android both on tablet and phone I can say I don't quite like it either. Always had problems, couldn't be bothered to deal with them anymore, it's annoying, I'd rather have something that just worked like it should.
lmao yeah please tell me more about how things that personally annoy me about android don't actually annoy me
FYI Android 4.1 has gapless playback. Or at least it has the APIs for it, there isn't any integration (yet) with system or market apps. [editline]6th July 2012[/editline] Audio Latency is also drastically reduced.

Have you considered getting a WP8 and a media player of some sorts? Annoying to carry two devices, but it'd probably be cheaper. And how many albums do you have that would suffer from it? I only have one or two, so it's not that big of a deal to me. I must say that I disagree on android - I thought ICS was pretty cool, but jelly bean takes the cake as the overall nicest OS. Now, if the manufacturers weren't so damn dumb, Android would be so much more attractive.
