I don't think the 4 will even get 7. iPad 1 didn't get 6.
There is a cutoff point for every phone. The iPhone 4 was iOS 6, I believe the 4s is 7, and of course the 5 which will get at least 2-3 additional versions. I just can't get into the iPhone 5. To me the iPhone 4 was the nicest design the iPhone ever had. It's sleek and elegant, and has good weight to it. The new ones don't feel as nice and as good quality. Not to mention I hate big phones and I see that Apple is starting down the Samsung Galaxy S III path. Don't get me wrong, a big screen is nice, but if I wanted a big screen I'd get a tablet. This new "phablet" market just doesn't appeal to me. Hell, it took me forever just to buy a tablet. I generally hate how fast phones develop anyway. It's like no matter how many phones you buy in a year you will NEVER be ahead. I swear they come out with a new phone every other week, each with a bigger price tag and with only one new feature. "Retina Display" was the biggest scam in history. They make it seem like they developed this technology that has never been seen before, but that's Apple for you.

Android manufacturers took one and a half years to top the iPhone 4 in terms of resolution.

So I wouldn't be surprised if the 4 got iOS 7, but I'm sure that would be the cutoff point. The Retina Display was over exaggerated but it's a huge difference compared to a normal display, if you compare sharp detailed images. It's not as big as a change on the iPhone than it is on the new Macbook Pro. The Retina display on that is gorgeous. I went in an Apple store and set a colorful sharp wallpaper and it looked amazing
not to mention the iPhone 5's display is still dwarfed in size by its Android competitors. It's big enough to have an extra row of icons...
not to mention the iPhone 5's display is still dwarfed in size by its Android competitors. It's big enough to have an extra row of icons...
so? the android phones screens are dwarfed by the ipad's screen. Bigger != better.
so? the android phones screens are dwarfed by the ipad's screen. Bigger != better.
wait what i was just saying you can't call the iphone 5 a phablet

High pixel density monitors existed far before Apple "invented" the Retina display. Don't get me wrong, Apple does make nice products, I just don't exactly think it's fair to say that they've invented so much. Come to think of it, they really haven't ever "invented" anything. They just improved on existing designs. And for the love of God nobody better say they invented the GUI. Send boxes.
Does anyone notice how the music app for iOS 6 is much more responsive now?

I actually ask because that'd be a nice purchase, but as far as I can see the best is 2560x1440 in terms of pixel density. Now you still have to take into account viewing distance and whatnot, but I don't know of these high density monitors in desktops and laptops that pre-dated Apple to make it addressable as a "scam".
IBM T221 3840 x 2400 in a 22" frame with a PPI of 204. The thing needs 2 DVI-D cables to run properly
Pepper;37830585']IBM T221 3840 x 2400 in a 22" frame with a PPI of 204. The thing needs 2 DVI-D cables to run properly
Oh gosh that's amazing. Well I guess it would be more accurate to say Apple has made it more mainstream with products like the new iPad, and to a much less extent the Macbook Pro Retina. I'm just saying calling it a scam is a simplistic way of thinking about the situation. Yes Apple did not make the first high density display, but they made it a much more common thing. Nobody in the Android world was pushing for high pixel density until the iPhone 4 came out, and even then it took them a year and a half to surpass it. The iPad is still unmatched, as is the new Macbook Pro. Nobody has really been pushing for high resolution, even if it is possible and did exist. Now that aside, I'd imagine there aren't any current generation monitors like the IBM T221 floating around. That's unfortunate to say the least, since I probably won't be buying a 7-10 year old monitor on ebay. Hopefully companies start making higher res monitors now that Apple has their iPad and MBP on the market.
iPhone 5 16GB, no contract, 1150€ I don't know if I would want it... S3 32GB for example is 670€, no contract.
Where do you live that its that expensive?
Estonia.
Where do you live that its that expensive? [editline]28th September 2012[/editline] What why more pixels?
Because the iPhone 4 is 960x640 and the iPad is 1024x768, but it has half the RAM to run the OS, apps, and to store buffered frames. The iPod Touch 4th gen just barely scrapes by because it has the same SoC and RAM as the original iPad, but with the res of the iPhone 4.

You blow $300 (with a contract) and around $700 without on a phone and you only get a certain amount of updates. I'd prefer something I'm guarenteed to get life time updates, it's just the ability of being able to run it stabely.

Android phones typically do, 18 months. On iOS when a device can't properly run it, it doesn't get the update. Expecting lifetime updates is ridiculous, software and hardware advance, and some software just won't run on old hardware.
Is that not why I memntioned the ability of being able to run it stabely? I'd prefer having life time updates up to the point where I'm no longer able to run it stabely or efficiently. Apple usually just cuts off support which is a bit stupid.

It's a hardware limitation. My phone probably can't run Flyover decently which is why I don't get it. I don't really care either way, I have 24gb of music on my phone and I use it for music, texting and the occasional google search.

I can not name a single iOS device cut because it existed too long rather than because of Apple not wanting to cripple the performance too badly.
so since Chrome for iOS is gimped thanks to Apple not allowing third party browsers to be as good, I feel I will be forced to use Safari on iOS, but how do I get all my countless bookmarks, passwords, etc into mobile Safari? God Apple just make an exception for Chrome or something ugh

Honestly Safari is probably one of the better developed applications for iOS in terms of speed and stability.

I actually submitted a bug report about the find my iPhone app on the new iPad because the compass needle spinning was running around 45fps and didn't fit Apple's design quality. I've never had an iOS app crash on a non jailbroken iDevice, and most if not all of my apps run at 60fps. Some badly programmed ones are sluggish, but it's uncommon.

You can't expect people to stay back and hold your hand because you want new features on a device that can't support them.
