I've downloaded iOS 6 at least 5 times on my iPhone and it just fails when it gets to preparing >:c
Yup. And all Cydia apps and tweaks, as well as Installous apps won't function afterward, even if it still shows some apps installed.
So it would be good to remove all Cydia apps first?
So it would be good to remove all Cydia apps first?
Any apps obtained not through the official appstore would stop working
so whatever apps you are talking about, yes, probably a good idea
wee, my iPhone was left in an error state and I need to leave soon. I really hope I can fix it in time
[editline]3rd October 2012[/editline]
That's literally the only thing I don't like about iTunes - every time I fucking update my phone it's a whole different error code
wee I got iOS 6
is nice
i actually really like it considering how little I get on the 4
Just so everyone knows, Chrome on iOS 5.1.1 on the new iPad still has stutters when scrolling and zooming that Safari doesn't, even with that Nitrous Cydia addon. I can't speak for 6.0, but I'd imagine it's more of a Chrome issue if Safari runs perfectly but Chrome using Nitro won't.
Turned my iPad on this morning... 'please activate your ipad'...
Welp, guess it's wiped :v: ...but how?

That'd be it. :suicide:
my verdict on iOS 6
-I really like the skeuomorphism. Say what you want, I think it looks nifty. I'm not a fan of the glossy shit but I think this still looks nice.
-It's much faster than my 5.1.1, but likely because my 5.1.1 was jailbroken and loaded with winterboard.
-Maps isn't terrible so long as you use hybrid/satellite, but seriously, what the fuck.
-The new mail and safari and all the other redesigned/improved default apps are pretty nice too.
IMO it doesn't seem like a major revision but to be fair I miss out on most of the new features anyway. It ain't bad at all and I'm at least happy for the performance improvements I received
iTunes is so confusing to me.
[editline]4th October 2012[/editline]
Ahahahahha, I removed winterboard and it got stuck, awesome. :suicide:

Another thing, I just connect my iPhone and update and boom, there goes my jailbreak?
Yes. But do a backup first. Just in case something goes wrong.

A backup of my jailbreak?
Your iDevice.
You can do a backup of your jailbreak as well. There are apps for that in Cydia.

Yea but when i backup in iTunes it backups as a jailbroken iDevice, isn't that stupid when i try to get AWAY from my jailbreak?

In the restore process it will become unjailbroken.

Ah, I get it now. Thanks!

I really fucking hate Apple Maps. Can't i get Google maps back?
http://maps.google.com
Bookmark it until Google's maps app comes out

Nope, only the web interface. On Android, if Google removed something, you could just sideload the APK. But iOS is locked until a jailbreak comes out.

No you couldn't. If it was the same situation on Android the app would fail to install unless you manually replaced it in the system folder. You can't install an app that overwrites a system app without acquiring root permissions, an action equally as warranty voiding as jailbreaking.
[editline]4th October 2012[/editline]
Now of course maps isn't bundled with Android so it would work. But in the exact same situation with say...the calendar application, you'd need to go to system/app and replace the old APK with the new one, since iOS still has a maps app included.

No, you could sideload an app. You'd just have two copies most of the time, depending on how it was written. And I'd know, I had two separate map apps at some point on my old Nexus S because one had labs and one didn't for some reason.

No, he's right. You can't install system applications without root. Maps isn't a true system application; it may be included on the system partition but it's available on Google Play Store for phones that don't include it. I remember now that I couldn't install HTC's "FM Radio" app (a system app) on my de-Sensed ROM.
(Although root is warranty voiding, it's usually available almost instantly for a new phone/OS, unlike jailbreaking.)

System apps, yeah. I was referring to maps specifically. Sorry for the confusion.

That's alright. It's good that Maps isn't a system app on Android, because it's not tied to any particular framework or hardware feature. I wish iOS had that kind of distinction (ability to sideload user apps but not system ones).
I want to at least be able to hide system apps I don't give a shit about instead of just dumping them into a folder labeled "Apple"

Yah the reason Google has the apps separate is so they can update them themselves. Imagine if the only way to get updates to maps and YouTube etc on Android would be if your manufacturer updated your phone. It'd be an absolute disaster.
manufacturers are too quick at throwing away phones when it comes to android
how many droids has motorola been through?
Yeah, that's one of the things I like about Apple: they actually focus all their efforts on the one phone. The Samsung Galaxy Q is still being sold here in Canada (it was released last year), and yet on most providers it's still on Froyo (Mobilicity apparently has Gingerbread on it, but I'm not sure if that's just a typo since I haven't seen any Gingerbread sources on Samsung Open Source.)

Can't even put Newsstand in a folder. Worst "feature" ever.

It's so fucking annoying because I already have Kindle for eBooks and I have no intent of reading magazines and newspapers on my fucking phone
