Can't even put Newsstand in a folder. Worst "feature" ever.
On IOS 5.0.1 you could put news stand in a folder by making one then putting news stand in it as fast as you can.
Only problem is if you try opening it, IOS crashes.

Yeah I did that with all my devices haha. Fuckers fixed it in 5.1.1 though. Only way to have it in 5.1.1/6.0 is to have had it before through an update/restore.

we had a perfectly fine and quite active apple thread a few months ago but it was removed..... damnit
No, he's right. You can't install system applications without root. Maps isn't a true system application; it may be included on the system partition but it's available on Google Play Store for phones that don't include it. I remember now that I couldn't install HTC's "FM Radio" app (a system app) on my de-Sensed ROM.
(Although root is warranty voiding, it's usually available almost instantly for a new phone/OS, unlike jailbreaking.)
System app or not, either way your real point remains valid, the fact that Android is open can help not get fucked as hard when they pull features like this.

Yeah but damn it I updated my iPad for the hell of it and found out you can't really downgrade back to 5.1.1. Entirely my fault but ugh.

They'll probably have a jailbreak out soon for IOS6. Just gotta be patient.
jailbreak for the iphone 4 on iOS 6 is already out, it's just tethered

Bloody hell that was damn quick.
[editline]4th October 2012[/editline]
I'll wait for a tethered jailbreak before i move to IOS6 though.
It was done even on June 20 which IIRC is whenabouts iOS 6 betas was available
iPhone 4S+ and iPad 2+ now please.
(Extra emphasis on iPhone 5 and iPad 2 though just to get things started :P)
I don't want to create a new thread for this as it's relatively simple and you guys seem to know your shit about idevices
I found my old jailbroken iPod Touch 2nd generation which had been missing for a while, I want to take some files off of it and give it to my sister
It's running iOS 3.1.2 and has got who-knows-how-outdated versions of installous, ifile and cydia on there
What's the simplest solution to get a few files off with the least effort required? I'd like to avoid updating fucking everything- i'll probably just factory reset it when I've got those files off
Does anyone know how I can view flvs on my ipod touch 4g? It's jailbroken so cydia apps will work too.

There are lots of App Store apps for that. Search "flv" in the App Store and you'll get a ton of results.
Try OPlayer Trial.

iPhoneBrowser on the computer. should automatically recognize the iPod and you can navigate the fs from there
Are there any apps that are able to play mkv files on the first ipad?
I know that there are apps that can play these files. But as soon as it starts loading the apps crash.
AVPlayerHD. It can do 1080p MKVs on the iPad 2/3 and 720p ones on the iPad 1.

Eeek it's not on the App Store anymore for some reason, probably due to some sort of bug issues. It runs fine for me though, I'd expect it was a horde of 256MB RAM users complaining about crashes when playing 1080p that their devices are incapable of.
I tried Apple Maps' Turn-by-Turn navigation a few times and had no problems so far.

Which would still be the fault of the developer, considering he's the one supposed to know how to program by either optimizing or preventing the user from doing stupid things. Take it from a developer.
And yes, it's because of bugs that the app was removed temporarily from the App Store.
See, one of the reasons I don't like Apple is that they have so much marketing bullshit on their website, and so little actual information. I was trying to find out how big the iPad's screen is, diagonally, and it took me a while to find. The main iPad page (for Canada) only says what the resolution is, the camera, the number of apps on the App Store and that it has 4G LTE. If you go the "compare" page, it gives you a lot of specs, including total width and height, but still not the diagonal length. The only place I did find it is buried in a paragraph on the features page, under a huge image ("The Retina display on the new iPad features a 2048-by-1536 resolution, 44 percent greater colour saturation and an astounding 3.1 million pixels — in the same 9.7-inch space.")
I guess they assume that you already know how big it is if you're buying it (because you're an Apple fan who already had the previous models), or you don't care (because it's the only tablet that Apple makes).
Not like Samsung is much better since it's not obvious the 10.1 in the Galaxy Note 10.1 is the screen size.

Just saying Apple isn't the only one guilty of it anyway.
Regardless, a manufacturer's website is an awful place for tech specs. Wikipedia usually has everything.

But still, Android devices follow a pattern. Nexus 7, Galaxy Note 10.1, ASUS TF101.

TF300, TF700T. Is the 300 thirty inches big? Is the 700 SEVENTY INCHES BIG? No they aren't, there is no nomenclature among Android tablets overall, and trying to pick and choose those three was pretty ridiculous.

Alright, fine, Mr. Argue-with-everything. You have a valid point. I just mean that Apple is ridiculously opaque sometimes with their marketing talk. But I guess all companies are to some degree.
EDIT: Yeah, I admit that this page doesn't actually say "10.1 inches" anywhere on it.
EDIT: Yeah, all the tablets I mentioned are difficult to actually find the diagonal length of (on the manufactuer's website). Surprisingly, even Google doesn't really mention it outright even though it's sort of in the name. So most companies do this, not just Apple. I'm sorry I attacked Apple. I wish they would all present more obvious specs up-front.

if that fails try ifunbox.
also can we all PM a mod and make this the Apple General Discussion Thread anyway
