It is a galaxy s2
I'll agree with you there. I like the look and the feel of the Nexus series, though. I also love the design, it has been improved a lot.
Oh my fuck why did they mess with the status bar's colours. It looks worse than manure scraped on a website design from the 80's
all mobile OS's are garbage iOS is to dull and obfuscated android is to laggy winphone 8 has no apps webos/symbian/ etc is dead
Apparently RIM is going to have its last hurrah soon, and it doesn't look like a bad thing so far.

It'd be really funny if delivery drivers were using iOS6 maps to deliver new iPhones in the mail.

So many people seem to hate 6 as a whole, but honestly my only pet peeve is the App Store right now. Its sluggish as hell to browse. As for UI redesign, I love all of it.
I'm gonna be trying out the iPhone 5 in a few days to see if it's more usable than the S3 (too big for my tiny hands), otherwise I'll be getting a refurb i4S. Only thing I'm not looking forward to is Apple's maps, so many local buildings have moved ~10 miles or just no longer exist according to it. Very good to hear Google are bringing their own app. And apps controlling status bar tint is strange, not sure if I like it but I'll see if it gets abused or not.
I updated today on my 3gs, anyone else having trouble with the passbook not working. As in not connecting to the app store.
Safari's GUI is still fugly and inferior to Chrome's but thanks to Apple forcing other browsers to use slower javascript and webkit engines, Safari will always be fastest :suic

Performance and fluidity wise it's so far ahead of Chrome for iOS and even Chrome on Android running with V8 that I can deal with the worse looking tab setup.
The app controls the status bar colour now
its silly though, because you can make a one px bar of color at the bottom of the header bar
why do people quote skeuomorphism as a bad thing about iOS I think how the note app looks is cool skeuomorphism is the entire UI for christ sake about the only thing I think is overdone is the glassy effects
why do people quote skeuomorphism as a bad thing about iOS I think how the note app looks is cool skeuomorphism is the entire UI for christ sake about the only thing I think is overdone is the glassy effects
skeuomorphism just gets too tacky i don't need to see a shredder shred it just delete the pass
Because you have a purely digital interface and you are imitating a physical object. Why do that? You have a digital interface that doesn't have to be constrained like a physical object, make an interface that takes advantage of the medium. I get the whole "Wooo retina, yay lets put all these silly textures in to big up our display, wooo pretty!!!" But come on.
i think it's one of the cornerstone features of iOS
why do people quote skeuomorphism as a bad thing about iOS I think how the note app looks is cool skeuomorphism is the entire UI for christ sake about the only thing I think is overdone is the glassy effects
Yeah, skeumorphism is like the best thing ever: Seriously, iOS is a mess of different textures - do we really need our calendar app have cheesy leather all over? Or have a blackboard coming up? There's really no reason why they tack on this stuff.
the skeu wasn't so bad back in 3.0 but now its just getting worse and worse.
Its intuitive, I'll give it that, but it sure as hell isn't pretty. Even Holo has a few skeuomorphic interactions, but definitely not skeuomorphic designs. [editline]21st September 2012[/editline]
Yah that fabric texture is so bad that the new ROM Manager uses it for the recovery menu background :v:
and the fact that they use what is linen in the app switcher linen covers things, not behind things http://www.theverge.com/2012/9/14/3331466/mountain-lion-without-skeumorphism i like ^ that mountain line, i don't like regular mountain lion
I haven't installed iOS 6 and don't ever plan to (because honestly it's probably the worst major iOS update, ever.) but I don't think the skeuomorphism is bad. It has never gotten in the way of the phone's usability for me, nor has the design elements ever been really overpowering. Metro just looks flat and uninspired. Holo isn't bad though.
Certainly is much more pretty than that ugly gradient-loving shit they put in Gingerbread
Certainly is much more pretty than that ugly gradient-loving shit they put in Gingerbread
I remember Android 1.x-2.x. Gradients. Gradients everywhere with a bit of orange.
ugh webOS is so nice i use my touchpad more than my Xoom honestly
It probably won't surprise you to know that the guy that designed Holo worked on the webOS UI design team.
I still miss my palm pre. Poor webOS, where did you go? Also I saw the calendar cited a couple times as being a really tacky looking app. That's a horrible example because it really isn't. [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/m3bRZ.jpg[/img_thumb] HOLY FUCK THE APPLE ONE HAS A LEATHER LIKE BROWN BORDER, IT'S A FUCKING CALAMITY! No it really isn't guys, there are way better examples than that, game center is probably the best one. EDIT: Fuck I'm sorry, forgot that the iPad images are sort of big. EDIT2: I just realized I compared month view with week view. Took another screenshot to display an accurate comparison.
the worst for me is probably the bookshelf, especially since A) who reads ebooks on an iPhone and B) you can't move it I don't use game center because mobile gaming social networking... blegh
actually the skeuomorphism in iOS is more the animations than the actual content what you are not seeing in that calendar screenshot is the fact that it rips the month off when you move foward
actually the skeuomorphism in iOS is more the animations than the actual content what you are not seeing in that calendar screenshot is the fact that it rips the month off when you move foward
Tried to get a picture of it, couldn't do it. Sorry.
Don't forget the accelerometer controlled knob shading on iOS 6. yep, tilt the phone around, the knobs shine differently like brushed metal does
