Apple always say their stuff is the best, it's just how they advertize their products. It's a shame that WP8 doesn't have nearly as many apps

The Windows and Internet Explorer brands scare a ton of people off too.
Should have just called it metro or something.

OK his point comparing the Lumia 900 and the iPhone 5 with brightness is ENTIRELY FALSE. The Lumia 900 has brightness and temperature calibration. The brightness is not even remotely close to what he claims.

He also left out any mention of the screen color because there's no data for it, but he had no trouble comparing it to the Lumia 900 when it was favourable toward Nokia. Yah Nokia's 900 had the best OLED panel I'd seen in a while, and their 920 looks good. But we've seen Nokia is not exactly the most honourable company regarding their advertising for these phones. Whoever made that image didn't feel putting that the iPhone is calibrated to professional standards for color reproduction would help Nokia, so they left it out.
[editline]22nd September 2012[/editline]
OH and his points about screen movement and refresh rate are wrong too. All smartphones operate at 60Hz, the entire point of iOS design is that an app should be running at 60fps or it's considered a bug. So how on earth did he ever come to the conclusion that only the Lumia 920 used a 60Hz panel? This person is clearly no credible source, and they don't appear to actually know anything about displays.
It's hilarious because there's at least three posters who just took that at face value and decided it must be true. Those types of comparison images are usually made when the creator doesn't know what they're doing and can't write an accurate and proper article/blog/journal/paper etc about a topic so they make it difficult to source because it's more than likely not very accurate.

I hope I didn't because now I feel like a fucking retard. Well anyway three people seemed to think it was legitimate so hopefully they know now that's it's not.
WP8 looks pretty awesome, and I own a Samsung Focus from the previous generation, somehow is smoother than any Android phone regardless of specs. I'm just concerned with app support for WP8. Microsoft needs to push and give developers incentive to develop for their platform, it's the only way it's going to grow.

Well, if people hold off buying the into the platform because of developer support (or lack there-off), it's an evil circle. I personally do not use many apps, and there are quite a few games on the WP7 platform worth playing anyway.

Isn't there some sort of requirement for metro apps that they run on all Win8 platforms?
I could see this being useful.

In my opinion the name was one of the worst decisions imaginable by Microsoft.
One, if you take into consideration Windows Mobile, a mobile OS we all know to be rather shit, and look at it's previous version, 6, 6.5, 6.5.5, and then you see Windows Phone 7, you'd likely associate it with the shit that came before it. To this day I still see people call WP7 Windows Mobile 7.
What they should've done is drop the Windows in front of it, and the version to start at 1. Not call it Phone, but something that's a little less generic.
Microsoft's generally shit at naming things though. WP7 in the beginning being called Windows Phone 7 Series really shines a light on it as well.

I don't know what most of that means, but I have used both a 900 and an iPhone 4, and the brightness on the 900 always seemed higher. Not by much though.
I found this which would seem to imply it's closer to the iPhone 4 than that graph would imply: http://www.displaymate.com/Mobile_Brightness_ShootOut_2.htm
Ironically, Apple Maps has excellent coverage of North Korea compared to Google Maps:

I like how the iOS 6 thread is full of discussion about everything else except iOS 6.
So what does everyone think of Passbook so far?

It seems brighter because colors are still oversaturated even if it's less than on the Galaxy S II. It's around 3/4 the brightness according to displaymate, and 1/2 according to Anandtech. Both scenarios still support that I'm right and that image is a bunch of bullshit.
[editline]22nd September 2012[/editline]
Also keep in mind we don't know whether or not it's being measured as a full white screen for maximum brightness or a single point of white on black for peak brightness. I know Displaymate is maximum brightness figures, not sure about Anandtech.

Haven't got many opportunities to use it, but it seems like a pretty cool feature regardless.

At least it's all iPhone related stuff.
On the topic of "the best display ever." No shit it's bullshit. It's fucking marketing. They aren't going to sell phones by saying "it's like the 4th best display as of right now." Jesus, people put way too much thought into digging into Apple.
Why not compare the GS3 to other phones because Samsung is saying the GS3 is "the next best thing?" I'm sure other phones do different things better.
It's just silly.

It's bullshit but not by a large degree. Very few phones are calibrated as well as it is. But because it runs at a lower resolution than something like the HTC One X it is indeed inferior. LG's 720p AH-IPS phones also beat it if I remember correctly. I think they're in the 95-100% sRGB range. I'd have to go check over it again.
[editline]23rd September 2012[/editline]
It would make sense that the LG ones beat it because LG is Apple's biggest phone display supplier.

Same. I really like the idea of it but I haven't seen that many companies using it. I can only imagine the potential it has once it catches on more.

It looks like a really great and useful feature for someone like me. Hopefully we'll see lots of adoption(Apple products do tend to drive widespread adoption of things) and I'll be able to go see a movie with my ticket in passbook, ride the go train to Toronto with the ticket in passbook, go on the Toronto subway using it, put my plane tickets to Costa Rica on it, etc etc. It'll just be like a hub for my tickets, coupons, cards, etc.

This thread makes me real excited about the possibilities of Passbook. While it's not quite NFC/iWallet, it may just be the next thing (and Apple may be working on their own mobile payment method with Bluetooth 4.0). This just seems like a whole new way for businesses to interact with their customers and I'm excited to see just what kinds of solutions companies will come up with in the next few months.

well if Passbook starts blowing up I might just install iOS 6
but it's just not tempting for someone with an iPhone 4 considering how little I get

Stating a fact doesn't mean you're bothered with it. It is a big phone.
The width of the iPhone screen in portrait is enough for my thumb to cover basically the entire screen.
It's small compared to other things but I can live with it
