If you're too stupid to invest in protection for your phone you don't deserve to have one.
After 22 years, I think I know how to use my hands, in that I know how to not drop things, in that I don't need protection for my phone. Not once have I ever dropped a phone, or anything else for that matter. All you have to do is make sure you're holding it in a way where it won't slip or drop, and make sure you have a good grip on it in the first place.
It isn't stupid if you don't purchase a giant rubber suitcase for your phone.
A guy at work I knew said he'd like to see Apple use soft buttons because his home button always broke.
I'd like to see how Apple would design soft buttons, although they probably wouldn't touch them now Android Nexus devices use them.
Also, the only device I have ever dropped was my 2g iPod, and I was holding it stupidly while walking on a concrete. I don't drop my phones. Accidents do happen, but if you know how to avoid situations that are accident prone, you're fine.
I guess the one exception is when I broke my LG Voyager by throwing it into the ground. That was premeditated however.
I keep seeing dizzy bitches waving their iPhone's around between their thumb and ring finger.
I'm going to laugh my ass off when I finally see one drop it.
I'm borderline neurotic, I practically have a death-grip on my phone whenever I see someone wandering a bit too closely past me.
in my intro to art class, all these dumb bitches with their (parent bought) macbooks are always dropping their phones
there's just a certain type of people that shouldn't own anything expensive
Was toying around with a friend of mines iP5 today, it's built like a brick compared to the 4S, really nice.
I have a great case for my, the Speck PixelHD thing.
It's perfect, I cannot stand having to protect my phone all the time.
It's the same reason why I own a ThinkPad R500, instead of a Macbook Pro.
My phone and laptop is for me, a tool. The iPhone without a case makes no sense for me.
I often wake up with my phone on the floor, I've dropped my laptop a good amount of times down stairs.
I've dropped my iPhone from head height down stairs on my bike 2 times. I'd hate owning a macbook and be scared to damage it.

Did he mean like an onscreen key like the Nexus or a capacitive button like most other Android phones?

Yes, because you'll be able to predict every scenario your phone will enter.
Not having a case for your phone because you know how to hold the thing is like relying on Common Sense 2012 for an anti-virus. Sure, you know how to care for your phone, but shit happens and you're still vulnerable to a lot of preventable accidents.
It kicks the GS III's ass in drop tests. But I guess that's what happens when you build your phone out of something that isn't cheap plastic.
yeah if there's one gripe I have with Android phones in general it's that I'm not a fan of plastic
I like the general design, and I think the GS3's a good looking device, but for the price I'd pay I'd like a little more than... plastic holding it all together
and since it's all fused together, it's infinitely harder to service than the iPhone 5

The one thing I don't like about Android phones is they tend to not have actual fucking buttons for home, etc.
Sure, they can vibrate a bit as you press the soft button, but there's nothing quite as satisfying as pressing a button and feeling it click.

At least the capacitive buttons work unlike the physical ones on my Desire.

Strange, I've never had a physical button break, ever.
Are the physical buttons made really fucking cheaply these days or

To be fair, I agree with both of you. The only thing I find people stupid for is calling eachother stupid for either protecting their investment, or maximizing the look of their phone. Both have merits, stop being silly.

Some of these scenarios are definitely not what case makers envisioned, I wouldn't buy a case to abuse a device like this.

In a lot of cheaper android phones the buttons are almost made to break.
Same with the home button on iPhone's - it gets raped every day and eventually will break.
Speaking of iPhone's - thinking of getting a 5 to upgrade from my 4. What say you all?

Hate anything over 4" display.
Plus I don't think I could handle seeing IE every time I open my phone.
i don't see why you cant just put chrome of firefox on it

Have you ever even used a Windows Phone? I haven't seen anything to indicate that you're no longer stuck with IE + Bing.
The integration with Bing was one of 3 reasons that I dropped WP7

Pretty much this. Everything would use IE and Bing as default browser and search apps anyway...
Can anyone convince me NOT to get an iPhone 5 lol? :v:

They're rolling off the plants with some manufacturer defects. I'd wait to see how Apple handles it

I figured I'd just get them to open them in front of me to make sure I don't get one that's chipped out of the box.

All of the times I've bought iPhones at an Apple Store they open it there, and I'm picking up a 5 tomorrow, and I plan on checking for chips before leaving

It's not just the chipping (and let's face it that will happen over time with anodized aluminium anyway) but the screens are very sensitive to pressure and will flicker when you so much as tap them.
I'd pull up the TechCrunch article detailing it but my internet seems to have taken a shit.

I dug in the shit and I think this is what you meant: http://techcrunch.com/2011/09/23/touch-panel-defects-to-affect-iphone-5-availability/
I never had a problem with IE in Windows Phone, the Bing app on the other hand feels annoying most of the time.
While there's plenty of posts around the net documenting problems, it's expected from a product manufactured so widely in such a short time frame.
There's plenty of perfect one's coming through too. Guess I'm going to go check them out today, see if I can chip the display iPhone's with my fingernail.
Looks like ALL stock in QLD Australia is sold out. Bad batch is probably all gone.

If this is the article they are talking about, it is dumb, because that article is a year old, and before the 5 was even announced
