Maybe the article I found wasn't techcrunch, but it was basically along the lines of "you press on the screen, even lightly, and it will have a pressure spot." Probably something similar to when I color converted my iP4, I accidentally left the plastic backer on the back of the display and it was basically being constantly squeezed and the display looked distorted until I took it apart again. Oh man am I glad at how serviceable the iP5 is. If I wasn't getting my car squared away I'd upgrade immediately.
If this is the article they are talking about, it is dumb, because that article is a year old, and before the 5 was even announced
You're right, I'm an idiot. Sorry. EDIT: As in I totally missed the date
A guy at work I knew said he'd like to see Apple use soft buttons because his home button always broke. I'd like to see how Apple would design soft buttons, although they probably wouldn't touch them now Android Nexus devices use them.
soft buttons are the worst thing ever tbh and the home button is the most comfortable button I have ever pressed
Going to try upgrade my phone this weekend. Just did a quick calculation, and over the 24 month contract, the iPhone 5 will cost me £340 more than the 4S (£100 fee for the phone itself, and the monthly fee is £10 more then the 4S). I don't think it's worth it so I'm just going to get a 4S. Would be nice having the A6 processor, but looking at a few comparison videos the 4S and 5 seem pretty close. And too be honest I think I prefer the design of the 4S, not a fan of long, thin phones. I find they feel awkward to hold. Now the next biggest thing to decide is; black or white.
Some of these scenarios are definitely not what case makers envisioned, I wouldn't buy a case to abuse a device like this.
Well, my devices show no sign of 'abuse', so the case and the non-destructable ThinkPad works for me. I use my phone what, 4 hours a day? If not more - I'm going to drop it, that unavoidable. I don't even like the iPhone design without the case, it's too slippery compared to this: [img_thumb]http://cdn.speckproducts.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/s/p/spk-a0090_glam001.jpg[/img_thumb]
As far as I could tell, my iPod touch home button is much easier to press(less force) than my sisters iPhone 4 one. I kept having to shove my whole finger into the damn thing for it to press properly.
The only thing I really dislike about iOS 6 is this: This whole new "white theme" or w/e just looks bad, at least in my opinion.
I wish the email app displayed messages like forums like gmail does it doesn't even show your responses in the emails there is the gmail app for iPhone but it's fugly
The gmail app doesn't look bad to me, but I guess it could be better.
I wish the email app displayed messages like forums like gmail does it doesn't even show your responses in the emails there is the gmail app for iPhone but it's fugly
The iPad one does, if I'm understanding what you're describing correctly. The white is sorta nice. It makes me wonder if iOS should have color schemes, not sure how it would work with apps like the find my friends where its leather though
I'm not a huge fan of iOS 6 myself, but that's because I have a regular iPhone 4 and can't use many of the new features. I just never felt the need to get a new iPhone, but now that the 5 is out that means the 4s will be cheaper. I'm not under contract so I could theoretically upgrade at any time. I don't know, I might wait until the maps bug is fixed and whatnot. My biggest complaint, though, is the Apps Store. It was clearly designed for the iPhone 5's bigger screen, because it looks like absolute shit on the 4. It's slow, difficult to navigate, I wish there was an option to switch to the old view. On a plus note, Safari is indeed much faster than it was before. I don't see why people constantly feel the need to debate over iPhone and Android-based phones. They are both impressive devices. I used a Samsung Galaxy S II, but I now use an iPhone 4. Here's my argument against Android: -Most devices have not been updated by their manufacturer so most are STILL stuck on Gingerbread. -Android is quite slow and you need to know how to manage your RAM and close your applications when finished. When I'm doing a lot of stuff on the fly, I'm not concerned with closing every app I just want to accomplish the task. -The app selection offers no quality control. There are applications that crash constantly, look like absolute shit made with clip art, etc. Why I'm in favor of Android: -It's got the most options. You can't really debate that. -They innovate before Apple and have as many options to make your life quicker on the go. -They have more small-time developers that offer apps. The main reason most iOS apps are battered with ads is because Apple charges you to put apps in the store. -There is a much wider selection of phones. Now, why I personally use the iPhone now: -It's fast. Everything simply flows. -Text messaging almost never gets bogged down. -The email is impressively fast. I work at a data center and am on-call 24/7 so I need to be able to access my email. That's it. I do miss the features of Android, but I also carry my Nexus 7 with me, so what my iPhone can't do my Nexus 7 can.
-They have more small-time developers that offer apps. The main reason most iOS apps are battered with ads is because Apple charges you to put apps in the store.
It's the complete opposite. Android users spend less money on apps than iOS ones because Android has more ad supported apps due to getting people to pay for it being so hard when they can tick a box and have their device set to install cracked APKs. [editline]26th September 2012[/editline] http://www.mobilebusinessbriefing.com/articles/android-market-earnings-just-7-of-app-store-revenue/19686/ [editline]26th September 2012[/editline] And yes this may have changed a bit, but it's very likely and almost guaranteed that the situation itself is the same.
so why doesn't Apple have their own QR scanner? I always find 1st party apps to be best for basic things tbh
-Text messaging almost never gets bogged down.
Funny thing, on my old Android phone, you could actually get to a point where you couldn't delete text messages, because you had too many. I have no idea if it still happens on newer phones though.
Is there a carrier unlock that i can use with an iphone 4 and IOS6 yet?
My mom updated her 3GS with iOS 6 today and now her phone just dies after it asks to be connected to iTunes... I think it may have fucked it up. Is it possible to re-flash iPhones?
To be fair, I agree with both of you. The only thing I find people stupid for is calling eachother stupid for either protecting their investment, or maximizing the look of their phone. Both have merits, stop being silly.
I use a case simply because accidents happen. I might slip and fall down a flight of stairs or something, so a bit of protection never hurts.
i get a case that has a textured back since the glossy glass/plastic backs on phones are just terrible for grip [editline]26th September 2012[/editline] I specifically have this http://www.amazon.com/Griffin-Technology-Elan-Graphite-iPhone/dp/B003TYHBN8 textured back is easy to grip, everything is accessible, it goes over the bezel so the screen is protected much better if I drop it

The slippery glass back is a nogo for me.
on the topic of tough Apple devices my second gen iPod touch has been dropped, stood on, had two screen replacements, flung across a car park by accident, dropped in a bucket of water, sat in a puddle of coke for hours ( the lock button stopped working but worked again after getting dipped in the bucket of water ) it works fine, apart from the head phone jack because my dad broke it by trying to fix it, so that's one tough motherfucker [editline]26th September 2012[/editline] I really want it to work again, I've got an ipod classic and its terrible, its like Apple forgot how make products when they made it
headphone jacks are always breaking on iPods and they're like really hard to fix or replace I was given an iPod tough 1g for unbanning some kid off my Minecraft server a long time ago and it was fine aside from the non-working headphone jack that I could not get fixed. the cable was bad and it was pretty much impossible to repair

It's true that quality control is missing. I'm glad Google doesn't have to approve every app, but I get your point.

You may be lucky but there are lots of people with capable phones like the Desire HD and original Galaxy S that won't ever see official updates.
That's true even with iOS though. I get iOS 6 on my iPhone 4, but how many of the new features do I really get?
That's true even with iOS though. I get iOS 6 on my iPhone 4, but how many of the new features do I really get?
we got passbook a unfinished maps.app and facebook integration. Miss anything?
we got passbook a unfinished maps.app and facebook integration. I think we'll be lucky to get anything in iOS 7 [editline]26th September 2012[/editline] I don't know why I put safari in quotes and i'm too lazy to edit it out
new youtube app is way better
