Good reading. That's 2 of them.

Yep, we need the bad reading rating again. Sorry about that.

:c
Pretty sure this HDD is going to die soon. Kinda sucks because I have no money to get a new one, so I will probably have to beg my parents. Anyone know any way I can check the drive's health?
A lot of programs do S.M.A.R.T testing
Defraggler and Speccy are two

Best you can do is cut your time spent on the computer and do whatever is in your power to find cash for a replacement drive. Hope you make it to then, or even better, I hope your drive is alright to begin with!
I have been learning more and more about Linux lately. Although I'm feeling increasingly proficient, I made one of the more stupid mistakes in my linux-hobbying life.
For whatever reason, I thought it would be a great idea to start screwing with permissions when setting up my ftp server, making it so all the root folders would be locked down so no FTP'ers would be able to get into my previous /usr/ or other random root files. I somehow crashed my system and deleted my /etc/ folder. I never made a Backup folder for whatever stupid reason, and nothing could boot the system. I have no idea how to use the gritty internals of the system, so I just copied the Backtrack live USB's /etc/ folder over to the other.
Crunchbang launched, but only in a console, and everything was read-only. I decided to "give up" and take all the stuff from my home folder and then reset the partition and start anew. So now I'm currently using a backtrack USB to copy all my important files (music, images, porn, ebooks, etc.) from that partition of the hard drive to the other.
I did learn some stuff from this, however.
1: Always have backups.
2: Don't mess with the core files if you don't really know what you are doing.
3: Live USB/CDs are really useful.
I am glad I didn't even try to go super-crypto on this partition by encrypting it multiple times, or I would have never been able to actually access any of my files to recover them.
Oh my god this is so painful. A friend built a new PC.
so I'm asking him about it.
He paid $1k for this.
i3-2120
8GB DDR3 something
GTX 550 Ti
32GB SSD
1TB Drive.
Antec DF-30
and a Coolermaster GX-750 PSU
I don't know whether I should tell him he got ripped off...
Yes, you should, and also an estimate on how much it would have cost if it was a proper build.

Uhh, I don't think it's as bad as http://www.ebay.com/itm/Awesome-Gaming-Computer-/280843285364?pt=Desktop_PCs&hash=item4163907374
No?
12.2 came out this month. Where did you get the monthly driver idea?

To be fair, I've never had trouble with them. At least not enough for me to think so. And definitely not like that.
He's making a big deal about how he pirated Windows 7.
Yeah bro, you hardcore.
-snip-
I just had a weird idea for a fan

Imagine the little sled thingies have magnets in them and the track in the body has wire through it
Ring motors already exists, except it's a full circle making contacts rather than four small points.

Default UI, no keybinds, Death Knight, Alliance, no bag addon.
0/10
I just tried to render a really really simple object in Inventor and for the hell of it I stuck Anti Aliasing on max (there's only 5 settings)
It renders 4 tiny sections of the image, which are all just parts of the background with nothing on it
The entire program then proceeds to crash and burn, pushing my CPU usage almost to 100%
Render Illiterate Software Who Think They Can Render
Just watched one of those FBI "you're a hacker, pay a fine" pop ups appear in fullscreen on a school computer. It diguised itself as rundll32.exe and launched itself from a website, and then locked up the computer. Gotta love our security...

And now I just had to explain to a teacher on how to submit a ticket on their system I've never used.

Wow. The cooler on the 680 is awesome.
And now I just had to explain to a teacher on how to submit a ticket on their system I've never used.
In my old school we had a ticket system that wasn't in the intranet. This means whenever we got bored at home we submitted some fake tickets.
Also they had the domain admin PW stored in a config file in c:\temp. Plaintext.
And one teacher had such an extremely bad breath that you could smell it from outside the classroom if he was late to class or not.
Oh good ol' school times, I miss them.
So, Imo it seems the 680 is better. Not performance wise, it mostly matches the 7970 in games, but for the features. TXAA is fucking awesome, and the new PhysX is nice. Not to mention the fucking tiny reference design and quiet reference cooler, oh and green is a better colour.

This is Wingar, coming in live while my partner Makol sleeps, spamming you with all the latest GTX 680 videos.
Bit-tech is putting it at 35% faster than 7970 overall.
45% faster in Battlefield 3 at 1080p, whaaat?

A lot of those reviews were written before official launch and use sources that aren't exactly respectable, a lot are very sensationalist. I'd mostly trust the reviews in the coming few hours.
