Not the same thing, I think there was a miscommunication somewhere.
No, it's not the same thing but the functionality is pretty much the same in the end. I also hate how they've moved the power options into the control panel.
I also hate how they've moved the power options into the control panel.
That bothers me immensely, now you are going to have the average inept user holding down the power button and doing a hard shut-down rather than simply pressing it once. Why give the user the room to potentially damaging the system through misunderstanding?
Half the time my laptop never wakes up again though, I have to pull the battery and reboot.
I just hibernate on my laptop. Works perfectly.
No, it's not the same thing but the functionality is pretty much the same in the end. I also hate how they've moved the power options into the control panel.
Well, the functionality is about the same, but in my experience it works better. Are we just trying to denounce any progress Windows 8 might have made? It seems like you just want to say "well, we had about the same Windows 7, and here's some things I don't like". Sure, I probably won't buy Windows 8 either, but they've made lots of progress in my opinion. Everybody keeps going back to the start button, but how is it any worse in Windows 8? Sure, it's full screen (if you find that that's a minus), but you can still get out with a single click, and you have accessability to a lot more programs at once. Windows 7's start menu still lists folders under "All programs" - is that really appropriate? Beyond that, you can still have all your control panel shortcut and what not there. "Groups" gives some organization that wasn't available in Windows 7, and it's an easy way to get an overview of things. And the general, objective improvemens - boot times, general speed, and whatnot. I'm on a 2 year old laptop with a 5400RPM HDD, and I don't have to wait 2 minutes at the desktop before launching shit. It's really an improvement. It just seems like you're a bit harsh on it.

Cut Metro and move back to Aero and I'm sold. Windows 8 genuinely has some well needed improvements, as well as some nice, non-metro, aesthetic changes (New bluescreen, for example). I can't stress this enough, I love everything about Windows 8 bar the new UI. (Especially the whole square window thing, looks fuck ugly).
The sharp window corners irks me badly.
Jesus. I just realized we're on topic for once.
Jesus. I just realized we're on topic for once.
Yeah, I'll try to get into a controversial Windows 8 discussion more often, then.
I'll probably just wait for microsoft to fire whoever though Metro apps should be forced fullscreen on desktops and allow Metro apps to run fully enclosed in Aero windows. It's okay on about 10 inches of screen space, but once you're on a 23 inch screen at 1920x1080 the total disregard for screen real estate gets annoying.
Yeah, I'll try to get into a controversial Windows 8 discussion more often, then.
Would you prefer longer, more thought out responses or "derp dergon dildos"?

I've used it on my school laptop since DP came out pretty much, and it has payed off well. In the start I had to figure out some quirks, but really my workflow is much better now, than it was. [editline]26th March 2012[/editline] I like long things, so yeah.
Everything I've used of Windows 8 for a desktop, just slows me down. But I reiterate for Windows Server, it is fucking brilliant. I have all the main server management applications on the main Metro and the rest in groups, my workflow is so much faster than it was in 2k8.
I really liked Windows 8 in developer preview, but whenever I installed consumer preview, something about it made me snap. I don't know if it was the sidebar or something else minor, but it just got me. It's a great OS, but I'm not sold on it just yet.
If I buy a tablet, it's going to be running Windows 8. That's for certain.
Speaking of Windows 8, I've really wanted to have it on my Transformer until I actually tried the preview. I think I'll just stay with Android since I'm more productive with it + it's a more mature platform on the mobile front.
Android is surprisingly functional when it comes to productivity sometimes. I can write code with a source editor, use a linux install on my tablet to compile and run the program (usually command-line apps for school), manage word documents and presentations. Microsoft has big shoes to fill in the mobile department. WP7 was a good start but it has the same shortcomings as other mobile platforms.

Every time I go to use it, I just keep thinking how I could manage the extra space better with Windows and how I could do this and this so much better with Windows. Hell, apart from Windows 8, I'm corrupted. I prefer Windows Phone 7 to every other Mobile OS and Windows to any other OS (Except Server, HP-UX forever).

I think the biggest productivity limitation for Android is the ARM architecture, not a lot of industry-standard productivity apps have an ARM counterpart.

And just in case you're talking about Android tablets running phone UIs, Android's post-3.2 tablet UI is a thousand times better than the phone UI.

I dunno, maybe something sunk into my brain and I was indoctrinated, but hey. I fucking love it.

The tablet version doesn't hit the same productivity mark, especially considering the max size for an image I believe is 1536x1536. Either way, too small to do any work with a raw image from a decent camera at a respectable DPI. Can't speak for Autodesk's stuff, 3d modeling was never my forte.

It lacks a few features but for $10, it's fucking amazing.

So $10 is a lot for me, (I'm being facetious by the way) but for what it is, it is very capable, but a complete bitch to use what with touchscreen controls. Having a mouse with very high precision is a must have for serious work.
http://www.techpowerup.com/163043/Galaxy-GeForce-GTX-680-4-GB-Pictured.html I want one of these GTX 680s.
I'm happy they aren't taking 8 months to release double ram versions. I have 3 people interested in my cards. a 200-250 delta to get 50-60% higher performance sounds good right now.
I just my told friend who was giving me one, maybe two, GTX 680s, to just give me one GTX 680 with 4gb of memory instead. He said I have to wait until the end of June, if they're out by then, but I am ok with that. [editline]26th March 2012[/editline] eeeeeeeeee
