You're a weird one.
Yes, yes I am.
I may have dropped my macbook down the stairs
I may have dropped my macbook down the stairs
And it still works?

A very expensive Slinky
Also:
I started reading an old, 2005-era report from the NSA, researching the feasibility of Rapid Single-Flux Quantum Computing.
HOLY FUCK WHY ARE WE NOT DOING THIS?
* 50GHz expected by first usable model, expected to reach 100GHz+
* Basic RSFQ circuits have been tested at 770GHz
* 100,000x less power usage than CMOS
* Can be made with existing technology and methodology
* Isn't a massive change from the programmer's view, unlike qubit computers - you could run C on it
* RSFQ-based SRAM would be able to match clock speeds of the processor
* Expected price tag to invent the entire field: $20M and five years
Only downsides:
* Because a signal at 100GHz would only go 2mm in one clock cycle, they expect processor pipelines about 50 stages long (compare: 31 stages for Prescott, 20 stages for early Pentium IV, 14 for SB, 10 for PIII, etc)
* Oh, and you need to cool the thing with liquid nitrogen. Not because it makes a shit-ton of heat, but because you have to make it superconducting and the highest-temperature superconductor stops superconducting at 133K
OK, so barring a sudden discovery of a 300K superconductor, they're not going to get it into a laptop. Or an affordable desktop. And probably not commodity servers.
But dude, a 0.05THz processor? For $20M? We have missiles that cost more than that, per shot. We can afford $4M a year to INVENT NEW MICROPROCESSORS.
GOT IT
STABILITY. Everything in a quantum computer is magnetic, and is magnetic to the point where it is extremely sensitive. It's where the power of the quantum computing comes from.
Bits are just boolean, 1's and 0's, qubits are double's, they are 0.37, 0.474, 0.963 and so on. This description is simplified, it's much more complex but it gets the point across. The second one of those values gets interference from magnetic resonance, everything goes to nonsense. That, is the fatal flaw of quantum computing. I don't know why I never thought of this earlier. But that would be the reason we are not using this. The stability to perform calculations do not exist, and will not for years to come. RSFQC deals with this problem but still far from perfect. The stability still lacks in the area.
That is what is preventing us from taking advantage of this awesome technology.

Fuck, I love epiphanies.
[editline]28th March 2012[/editline]
Oh and Graphene is so sought upon for computing because it's molecular computing compared to atomic, quantum. It's the level behind quantum computing. It's the technology that will lead us into Quantum computing.
Damn. I can't believe I didn't remember this before.

Was in it's sleeve, in my backback, although it does make a really weird BBAZZZZTTT BOOOOP BNZZZTTKKNNGNN sound when powering on, not quite sure if it's the cd drive or the harddrive. But yeah, appears to be working fine

Might be a fan.
It's a Macbook, it's probably a standard feature that got remotely installed when you dropped it.
brt, there's 2x8gb 1333 ram on shell shocker today

1333
DubBook?
[editline]28th March 2012[/editline]
Automerge?
brt, there's 2x8gb 1333 ram on shell shocker today
Too bad it's not available until 4pm.
[editline]28th March 2012[/editline]
Which normally wouldn't be a problem but I wont be home before they go out of stock.

Give someone the money to order them for you?
You americans get all the good deals. Most overseas offers aren't worth anything because they must use the most expensive shipping option ever to ship overseas.
Nah, I guess I'll just order from my phone.
Might be a fan.
Apple don't use fans, they are noisy and detract from user experience!

Based off benchmarks I saw, the difference between DDR3-1333 to DDR3-1600 is the biggest jump of any of the speeds. So I'll only go with DDR3-1600 right now. Also I don't need 32gb ram now, only reason is for ramdrive benchmarks.

You'd only use a ramdrive for benchmarks? You crazy? I make daily use of RAM Drives, as small as they usually are (100 to 400MB)
I believe my internet is suffering from a malfunction.

I need an article saying how bad e-waste is.
Someone be a bro and find one for me while I shower.
I need it for class which is in 35 minutes :v:

You did not just post a speedtest
[editline]28th March 2012[/editline]
Although that does look rather odd
posting from my new pc! holla

Specs?
Specs?
mid-range pc running @ 1920x1080 atm
Fractal R3
i5 2500k
Asus Z68
OCZ 650W
Samsung F3 1TB
Corsair 8GB (2x4gb) DDR3
Samsung DVD/CD Drive
Sapphire HD 6870
it's simply amazing for me, this is so fast compared to my old pc
2500k is like the most popular CPU ever
every generation of CPUs has it's highlight, it just so happened that the 2500k has a REALLY good price/performance ratio especially if you overclock, which it also does really well.
The i5 750 was just as popular, really.
So I bought that laptop, right
(here's a video on how it performs in BF3)

anyway, I set it to be shipped to my workplace and my dad just got a jury duty summons. i may not be present the week it arrives. :suicide:
If everybody things I shouldnt get a blackberry, what should I get?
