true I guess
I dunno, it just sent me reeling when he told me about it
he also has a 550ti and 10GB of RAM, apparently.
buh.
.
If all he does is game what is wrong with the 550ti? I have one too :v:

I didn't say anything was wrong with it. In fact it feels like the 550ti is underpowered compared to the rest of the computer.

also jesus christ I'm not gonna be able to use my desktop until I graduate..This is gonna be a painfully long 3 months.

Mine even feels like that, so I'm sure it does for him. It's still a great card nonetheless, and why won't you be able to use your PC?
I wanted to back up some files, so I did
When I went back to find them, they were gone
Turns out I cut and pasted them :v:
this years google april fools is out http://www.youtube.com/theyoutubecollection
why
simply put my mom doesn't want me to, she seems to think that my computer usage is directly related to my sleep problems (trust me, it's not.)
she actually just took my monitor so the computer's just sitting there, actually.
simply put my mom doesn't want me to, she seems to think that my computer usage is directly related to my sleep problems (trust me, it's not.)
Holy shit. My mom told me this yesterday. I have insomnia anyways, my PC doesn't affect me sleep-wise.
I've always wondered, but can anybody explain to me why the Nvidia Quadro cards are incredibly expensive?
i've got a quadro fx 3400/4400 in my media pc. Its bloody brilliant for its age.
Aren't workstation cards overpriced because of the manufacturing costs of the vram on them? or is it something entirely different making me look stupid
That *used* to be the case (pro cards were just gaming cards with more ram and different drivers), but that's not so true now. They do often have more VRAM, but that's not the reason they cost so much.
Simple comparison:
A Quadro 6000 is essentially a GeForce 470 with 6144MB of RAM instead of 1280MB.
A GeForce 470 costs $200 to $400, depending on who you buy from.
A Quadro 6000 costs $2400-4000, depending on who you buy from.
5GB of GDDR5 does not cost $2000.
Afaik you can't use non-Apple cards in the Mac Pros without tweaking some things.
Yeah, I've been trying to look into it. Seems to be a firmware thing - the card firmware to work in EFI is bigger than most ROM chips will take, so they need different ones.
I probably won't upgrade this thing for a while.

Honestly, it's pretty dumb.
and man, I miss being able to play games. I actually get rather irritable when I don't get the satisfaction of playing certain games.
And my laptop is a piece of shit.. I can run gmod 13 on all low at 30 FPS or so but it crashes rather constantly..
and no I won't try installing Windows on it

I feel you. I had a PC where I couldn't even play CS:S on low without it crashing less than a year ago.

You're not paying for the RAM, or the hardware. You're paying for the R&D and the validation process that comes with the card, much improved drivers, ECC support, FP64, and much, much more. It's simple, if you care about the cost, then you don't need it.
BTW, if you have a GTX470/GTX480, you can possibly flash into a quadro card, and modding quadro drivers to work with those GF100 chips are easier, than for say GF110.
y'know
if I ever make my own dream laptop somehow
I'd put a mechanical keyboard in it

hee
oh speaking of buckling spring, my school has one of those IBM typewriters with the model m style keyboard in it
it is awesome
You may be able to get the laptop to play some games actually
I got my laptop with a GMA4500 to play TF2 on all low and using that low poly pack that's floating around the TF2 section.
currently i get ~45 - 60 FPS in dustbowl.
[editline]1st April 2012[/editline]
thing is though, the players and most props look like they came straight from the PS1

honestly the issue with this laptop is the processor
1.6 ghz dual core AMD tl-52 or something along those lines
AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-52

I had a single core desktop @2ghz, although I had a 6150se, and 2gb of ram.
So my computer keeps fucking crashing because of Firefox (I think). Happened 5 times in the past 3 hours. I've already lost about 2 hours of work in Ableton because of it.
Just started happening out of nowhere.
use a different browser then
use a different browser then
I am, but the thing that confuses me is that it just started happening out of nowhere. No addon updates, no firefox update, nothing.

Its probably some cruel april fools joke.

Here's the best part.
The "special" Apple cards DO work in PCs with the right motherboard.
Nope, isn't Firefox. Just started up my computer, made sure Firefox didn't open. Still crashed 20 minutes later.
[editline]1st April 2012[/editline]
Oh fuck. My computer is in a fuck ton of shit. Anti-virus hangs when I try to scan.

Sounds like it could be a hard drive related problem.

How can i check this?
How can i check this?
Run a S.M.A.R.T. test.
http://hddscan.com/ that should work.

Not sure then. I am not the best at troubleshooting, so you may want someone else's input at this point. I would check your temps though.
After googling around it seems some people with my motherboard and memory are having the same problem and the solution is setting the memory frequency (which i have set to my memory's frequency) to auto. gonna go see if that works.
