You guys will find this humorous. So, after work, we had this combo milestone party / unveiling presentation rehearsal. For that project I'm not entirely allowed to tell you about until it's announced. Anyways, you guys remember that time Bill Gates was unveiling a new version of Windows, and it BSOD'd during the presentation? Imagine how the guy responsible for the bit that failed felt. I now know that feel. I'd written a program to automatically generate transactions and run them, mainly for benchmarking purposes. We hit 600 transactions/second (our customers peak at 4 - we could probably run the entire East Coast off a single-socket server), so we obviously made that fact a decent part of the marketing. So my little, ugly test program gets run through a very convoluted way as part of the presentation. Using an iPad, they SSH in (as me) into our test server, then run the program against our staging server. Well, something fucked up (my money's on the wifi connection at that place), and it starts spitting up HTTP 500 errors instead of working right. So tomorrow, I get to rewrite that into something that actually looks like something you'd present to 1000 business people, instead of part of a BSD install script. Oh, and make it silently treat errors as working, just in case it mysteriously fails again. PS: I finally saw a lot of the project, including our official logo. I can't help but think it looks like the Aperture Science logo every time I see it.
