CIPWTTKT&GC v0X12 (v18): Makol can't Computer Very Good
Gold doesn't corrode, atleast not as fast as anything else. But people don't use a gold plated USB connector mouse for 500 years for it to be useful. Linus seems to think gold connectors are better because they bend and mold to the port and make a better fit. He's a fucking idiot. The plating is like 10 atoms thick and the connector shouldn't move, it's the spring loaded pins in the connector. That's how it's designed.
Gold has a purpose for connectors, but they aren't useful over regular steel connectors unless you plan on computing next to the beach with salty air all over.
my thermaltake mouse has a gold USB connector, chances are i can sell it for more than i paid because people are RETARDED.
I just like the look of my gold plated USB. Makes me feel rich for one 10th of a sec
Damn, I apparently have run out of usages for my Windows 7 Professional key :(
Last time I ran out of usages, we called Microsoft and we got a new key IIRC.
Although that was years ago, and with XP, but you could always give it a try.

A typical atom is about 1 Angstrom (10^-10 of a meter)
Typical gold plating is between 1.25 and 5 micrometer (µM)
1 Angstrom = 0.0001 µM
1.25 µM = 12500 atoms

But you're right on it being useless
Thanks for the correction.
And yes, my point is that the plating is so ridiculously thin it's not going to have much ability to just bend and morph to fit the plug.
Quality Neutrik, Switchcraft, etc. Plugs > Gold plated badly designed tat.
Gold plating is useful if you are in location work, out in the elements where corrosion can set in quick.
I have $27 to burn.
wat do
Cheap tat from dealextreme
or just buy a nerf gun, that's what I do with money I can't find other uses for :v:

Save it until something good comes around.
I've had a $20 note in my wallet for like 5 months now, and I was able to afford a preorder for the new Sonata Arctica album today because of that note.
After doing a bunch of research instead of reading my work for class, I've decided to build a Z2 ZFS server. It can do everything drobo can and way more.
Unless someone lets me know that I'm an idiot.

That's an awesome way to spend $20
Ah great. Far cry stopped responding as soon as it detected dxtory running..
Now to either find a fix for this, which I doubt exists, or I make a playthrough of another game. But that raises the question, what game?
Been having laptop on battery saving for like a month, Just now i switched over to my EXREEEEEME MODE HNNNGGGG, meaning full screen light
EVERYTHING IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND BRIGHT

picky any game you own , pref one you havent played yet / havent finished and do that
if my activation fails I can usually do a phone activation and it will work that way
Yes, thats what I ment.
In THEORY its a good idea.
In PRACTICE it isn't.
Because as brt said, you're not going to have anything long enough for it to matter.

It's not even a good idea in theory. It has no short-term benefits.

I know. I seriously doubt that your computer will work for 500 years or in that time, the port won't be used in computing.
In 500 years I fully expect wireless everything.
Or an ice age.

Talking about saving energy:
MINIMAL ENERGY USAGE, I keep my monitors on these settings, since well. It is pure eyebleach when at higher levels.

I really wish you could turn brightness even lower. When its completely dark, its still like staring at the sun.
my monitors sit around 70%
100% is headache inducing, anything less than 70% is too dark
Mine sits at 100%, I have RGB LED lighting behind my displays so its fine.
Ok just a minor update on the Dxtory problem: I think I might have found the problem. The quality is medium and on 720p@30fps, requiring about 50mb/s HDD speed. but my maximum is only 47mb/s.
It seems my HDD is just way too slow.

What kind of HDD runs at 47MB/s?
Even my 7 year old PATA drivers run at 70MB/s :d

Even then its too bright. It makes it bareable, but I would still like it a bit more dim.
Get F.lux
Tried F.lux, got annoyed with my monitor looking like it had a bad spray-tan, wouldn't uninstall for some reason, took me a week to actually be bothered enough to get rid of it instead of just "temporarily disabling" it.
I guess I will just download some HDD benchmark software, and look if those numbers are correct.
Ok, so I just benchmarked the read of this drive, here are the results. I do not know if this is actually decent or not.

Wow fuck, got back from a trip and my internet at home seems to be fucked. Like cable connection is working-ish sometimes.
Skype worked, MSN didn't, web browsers didn't, ping didn't( to Google atleast)
My monitor brightness is at 100% and it doesn't bother my eyes at all.
... Well if the room's dark and my desk lamp isn't on it bugs me a little if I'm trying to draw but still, not much.
Am I just lucky?
