Man, why have I never discovered this place before? I went into a little computer shop today, as a friend had told me they had the exact laptop I wanted (an Asus G74SX). Well, he was slightly off - they'd already sold their current inventory (of one), and it was a slightly different model (750GB HD/8GB RAM instead of 500GB HD/12GB RAM), but it was still worth a visit. Computer parts... everywhere. An entire display case of hard drives and SSDs (they had 512GB SSDs in stock!), *actual* gaming graphics cards (6950 was the highest-end I saw), cases (mostly Antec and Rosewill - not ricer shit AFAIC). And a TON of old shit. DB-9 to DB-25 serial adapters? SCSI cables? 56k modems? They had it. And, best of all, the guy running it a) knows his stuff and b) doesn't bullshit people. I told him I was price-checking that laptop, he asked me a bit about what I'd use it for and advised me that "I'd get more bang for my buck from a desktop". Which is completely true, of course, but it's rather hard to use a desktop on the shitter. That's not the excuse I told him, obviously - I said I'm on the move a lot, need to have portable computing power. We chatted some more, he pulled up Newegg and pointed some stuff out. I spent a while just browsing the shop, contemplating what to build. He'd brought up a good point about storage, suggesting an NAS to solve the problem of me *never* having enough hard drive space. I looked around, did some mental math, and decided building a FreeNAS box can wait until hard drive prices drop. So yeah. If any of you are in the central Virginia area, I declare "2000.Net Computers" an Official (c) CIPWTTKT&GC Hangout, and Mike Au an honorary CIPWTTKT&GCer. SO DECREES THE EMPEROR In a related bit, I need to rethink my laptop choice. Which would be more important: an extra 4GB of RAM (8->12GB), or an extra 250GB of hard drive space (500->750GB)? Everything is identical otherwise, and including price. Or, should I see if I can get both features for a reasonable price (if the 8GB model has empty RAM slots, fill them up?)?
TO VIRGINIA!
Unrelated content, but still stupid.
I took a hacksaw to a few parts of my Cosmos 2. I am pissed with it right now. "Want to mount some quiet fans to the side of the case? HAHA GOOD FUCKING LUCK" "Sup bro, wanna mount a fan to the inside drive cage to push some air to your GPUs. LOL I'M GONNA BLOCK ALL THE AIR SO THE FAN WILL JUST SPIN AND MAKE NOISE! AINT THAT GREAT" I tried mounting fans to the side door and with them set to 40% which is the lowest they go and make so much fucking noise, so I cut out the filters, still noise, I cut out the ribbing that might cause the pulsing air, much better, but still too much noise, so I cut out the grills on the side of the case, no difference. Fucking hate this case. In a few months I'm just going to fucking get a TH10, I don't give a fuck
Penis envy

Melt them down and create a frankenstein case?

Also the Gentle Typhoons and some more Bitfenix cables I ordered from Performance-PCs should FINALLY arrive tomorrow.
Un poco content. I'm building a computer for my aunt and ordered it today. I show him the build because he wanted to see it. The build is essentially a beefed up home computer (i5 2500, 8gb ram, 1tb, microATX, 6450) meant to last awhile before replacement. He sees the power supply, 430w, and says I need something closer to 600W for that to work. Bear in mind that he has a 550w power supply(I think, I picked the parts(on second thought, maybe 600 or 650)) a 6850 and OCd 2500k, much more power hungry than what he suggested.
For those laptops the ram RAM is near impossible to install/fit properly
Really? On my last Asus, it was easy as fuck. Five screws, and there it is. And a bit of googling actually brought me to a claim that accessing the RAM bay is "tool-less", as well as saying that even the WiFi card is easily replaced.

You have to remove the keyboard, removie the track pad, pull a lever, take off the back, remove even more screws, and then place the ram in which is near impossible. I tried install another 4gb and gave up on it.

my last laptop was 5 screws and the ram, wireless card, CPU, and hard drive were exposed I haven't taken apart my current one
I need to replace the wifi card on my laptop to hackintosh it, since no kexts exist for the 3945. I don't want to ever try opening that again. Why do they make it so hard? Good news is, the hard drive, RAM and CPU are easily accessible. But not the wireless card.
my last laptop was 5 screws and the ram, wireless card, CPU, and hard drive were exposed I haven't taken apart my current one
My netbook has all that exposed with two screws. my ultrabook (don't hurt me) on the other hand, good luck opening that shit.
hehe
I have collected $90 in eBay Bucks, wonder what I should spend it on
Next stop. TH10 in June maybe. Going to dump this Cosmos 2 off the highway.
Next stop. TH10 in June maybe. Going to dump this Cosmos 2 off the highway.
Throw it in a fire, at least. [editline]7th March 2012[/editline] http://www.anandtech.com/show/5626/ivy-bridge-preview-core-i7-3770k/ holy shit. The 3770k outperforms the i7-3960x in some cases and mostly matches it in others, the most powerful SB-E out there. Holy fuck Intel. IB-E is going to be so awesome.
AMPUTATE

I hated DC Universe. I'm picky with MMOs.
Brt, if the skin around it turns black then you probably got bit by something like a brown recluse, have fun with that.
Why are you not at a doctor right now?
I don't have insurance I think.
Don't leave us BRT.
