You're probably saying that getting an SSD is stupid, but I bought a 40 gb SSD, and I can boot and have firefox open in like 30 seconds. You install the OS onto the SSD, put all your shit onto a 1 tb F3 and BAM you're way happier with your loadtimes.
It is STUPID to not go with an SSD with that build.
I don't care how long it takes for my computer to boot.
I don't care how long it takes for my computer to boot.
You say that now. What other reason for them being to expensive? Hell you are getting 2 580s. So what does it matter.
calm down buddy he doesn't have to do anything he doesn't want to
Yea, that's obvious. Just it's odd not to buy one in a high end budget/build.

In the end I might buy one but for now the price difference does matter.
I gave this build another look and will be buying within 2 weeks.
Thoughts?

Unless you just like to blow money, get rid of the second 580. It will save you money in the future buying a whole new card.
I've always bought a single card, I really wanted to try SLI this time around.
The lifespan of my Graphics cards usually lasts 2-3 years so I feel I will get what I paid for in the long run.
[editline]1st July 2011[/editline]
Even if I do like to throw money away D:
fuck the 580 cards, i have a 570, it's $350 and is about 10% less powerful than the 580, and i hear dual SLi 570's perform just below tri-sli 580's in certain games, and the 570 scales way fucking better. i saw in metro 2033, that it was about 35 fps with a single one and it was 63 with a second on the same resolution on max settings. here's a good example http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-570-sli-review/11
As someone who actually has two Top-end 580's, I will say that the feeling that you get by simply maxing everything at any res, with AA, and not having to second guess your system being able to crank out fantastic numbers is something you need to experience. I would go with two if you have the money. But, I'd go with 3GB models to be honest. I'm not sure if Asus makes a DC2 3GB model, but unless it's crazy higher priced, I'd go for it. Here is newegg's listing of 3gb 580's: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007709%20600094002%20600138078%20600085533&IsNodeId=1&name=GeForce%20GTX%20580%20%28Fermi%29
To use the power you have, sometimes its nice to crank up AA and plenty of options, or go with a higher resolution, but when you do that you run into the problem where normal 580's only have 1.5gb of ram. When I run crysis warhead, enthusiest with 16x AA and 16x AF, I hit 1700mb of vram usage at 1080p only. If you plan on going with a resolution over 1080p/1200p, go with some 3gb cards. I own two MSI 580 Lightning Xtremes. They were pricey, but amazing cards. 832mhz and 3gb of vram. Great for High AA and plenty of texture mods.
Consider it. If you want some benchmark numbers from me let me know, and I'll try to get some for you.
I'm on a 2600k
2x MSI 580 Lightning Xtremes

2x4gb G.skill Sniper 1600

Dual 570's are close to two 580's because it's only at fucking 1920x1200 and 2xAA, that's like playtime for High end cards. And it's on fucking Gamer, pointless benchmark, and quite retarded of guru3D to do something like that.
Notice how 3x 580 is slower than 2x 580's. That's because the system is so un-loaded that the overhead of another card is bringing it down. TriSLI would work well for 2560x1600+. Their Metro benchmark is also screwed up I think. My two 580's pull twice the numbers they do with physics on.
[editline]3rd July 2011[/editline]
To answer your other questions, unless you have specific nvidia cards, the bridges come with the motherboard.
Under load my system pulls about 625watts I think, but that's completely loaded CPU too, and from the wall. So 750 is fine, I went with 1000W to hold me over for a couple years.
Fantastic post. I've updated my build with 2 EVGA 3GB GTX 280's.
I hope you mean 580.
Yea, Either go for two 2.5gb 570's, or two 3gb 580's.
2.5gb 570's :http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130687
Evga just released these. Basically, They replace every memory chip with double copacity. So 1.25gb to 2.5gb. If you want to save about 350 bucks total, two 570's would be great still. Yes, about 10-15% slower I've seen, but it may be worth it for you. But yea, you will definitely want the extra memory.

I'm definitely going for maximum power here.
This is obviously maximum power if you get two of them, but they're currently out of stock

Get rid of that Zalman cooler, and replace it with an NH-D14.

I have two of those. Unfortunately they came out in mid June and already are impossible to find. But they are the best 3GB 580's you will ever see.
[editline]6th July 2011[/editline]
Also the UD7 has really bad PCIe placement. They are right next to each other.

Do you recommend another high end board for this setup?
There's the Maximus IV, UD5 and P8Z68 Deluxe
There's the Maximus IV, UD5 and P8Z68 Deluxe
The board I selected is one of the only x16/x16 PCIE setups I can find. What makes these better?
For the P67/Z68 boards 8x/8x is like 0.0000001% slower. You will not notice ANY difference. On 1366 or 1156 boards there is a tiny difference, but even then it's really small. The UD7 is for triple/quad SLI, probably watercooled. Also, when you get an 8x8x board the Nvidia control panel WILL warn you you're in a slower slot, but it's simply detecting 8x, but its perfectly fine.
The UD5 and p8Z68 4 give move room for the primary two cards. If you're with dual slot cards they will be back to back and will have to spin their fans hella fast just to avoid meltdown. Giving an extra slot makes a world of difference.
My point is UD7 is for >two video cards in SLI/Crossfire. Otherwise it's really just a cluttered board for anything less. That's my opinion after many months of my research.
The UD7 would be fine if you could put the primary video card in slot0 and the secondary card in slot 2, but unfortunately I don't think the BIOS will handle that.

A problem here is, you don't seem to understand that 99% of the market won't have a fucking 2560x 1600 monitor, they are way, way more fucking expensive, and even then, a pair of 570's is a much better deal than paying $1k for two 580 cards, i'd rather pay $750 for slightly less performance.

Congratulations, you are now 99% of the market. Just because you don't have a 2560x1600 monitor, that doesn't mean the people who do feel the same way. They would rather pay $1000 for slightly more performance..

Wait, are you the OP? I'm sorry, I thought Smoot was. And 99% of the market? Does that include my grandparents? or your grandparents? If your argument for 99% of the market EVER mattered, then why do we have so many build topics? if everyone needs the same exact thing. Given that you seem to imply that 99% = 100%. No one has the need for it, so no one should get it, and my needs reflect the needs of everyone.
But thanks for chiming in on value for dollar, even though Smoot said:
I'm definitely going for maximum power here.
Edit: My posts was really quite harsh. Not trying to flame or anything. But you need to be in the mindset where saving every dollar doesn't need to come into play. Some people have money and want to put it towards the the goal they want. "BEST performance" not "Almost as good for a little less money." It loses part of the goal they set out for.
Once you taste the performance, you rarely ever go back.
Going to buy the second 580 next week.
