I'm wondering what's pushed him to buy a 1200w PSU when he doesn't (appear) to be getting tri-580s

There's a nice combo with that PSU and the case.

What's the uh huh for?
I lashed out at zombini, sorry about that.
Primary: 26" @ 1920 x 1200
Secondary: 22" @ 1920x1080
I use my 26" to game and the secondary for anything else from work to whatever.
Oh just saw you are getting an 800D. Be sure to add any fans you can. My reading suggests that you might want to take the rear fan and make it an intake actually, and try to rotate the NH-D14 so it's blowing up.
The 800D has different cooling zones, and the only intake is a single 120/140mm hole on the bottom I think. It's an odd design, but I read that making the rear fan an intake drops internal temperatures SIGNIFICANTLY. So keep that in mind if you see overly high temps.
You won't need more than 1 GTX 580 for that resolution. Save the money and buy some better, cheaper cards with the next generation.

The goal is maximum power, something a single 580 won't be providing if he wants to max every game.

Read the thread next time, he already ordered 1 580GTX and 600 series won't be coming out in 3 months or so.

He can also sell the 580s and buy 680s when they come out.

Yeah, maximum power for some months, fuck yeah awesome. And even though you sell the cards, you're still wasting money, as they go down in price (they're used) and something newer and better is going to be out. Also, you will be able to max almost any game out there, save for a couple of games like Metro 2033. Your resolution is in my opinion too low to justify two GTX 580.

Give good advice next time. BRT made his case with the VRAM, but the argument fails at this resolution. You should've have recommended a GTX 590, as it's 250$ cheaper, and will blow away any game at 1920x1200.

I ordered 3 extra 120mm fans for the top as intake fans.

Use top as outtake; warm air rise upwards.
