Been running at that temp on the 4870 for a few years, so it's not really a problem, they run hot anyways. What's up with people censoring their computer name? Seems a bit stupid really.
Pepper;19398956'] i wonder what the temps would be if you bolted that cooler to a intel atom. 6 degrees maybe?
it is pretty much impossible to be sub ambient with air (I mean, sub ambient thats 10c+ cooler) are your ambient 6c/F? if so, that's cold...
The other day it was cold in my room. (look at the first hard drive under min)
[editline]12:22AM[/editline] Running Prime95 and just got out of L4D.
I'll have to finally buy that fan for my HD4850, because it has passive cooling.
Mine 2600 is passive too, with 5€ fan on it. Stays at nice 42C on idle and 52C while playing TF2
Funny fact is that The Sims 3, that works on 80+ fps (on every speed), heats up my 4850 to 110C few times faster than Crysis on V. High details.
It's sorta related to temps, and I think it's very useful information. something to think about.
Okay to clear up a few things before a bunch of speculation takes place. The thermal specs you just posted are for the center of the IHS and not the cores themselves. Their is a temperature gradient that goes through the cores and into the IHS itself, which means that if the IHS can be a maximum of 72C, then the cores could be around 90C before you would even reach the Thermal Spec. In all reality, this is before the fail safe system kicks on a reduces clock cycles. The silicone really needs to be at about 120C before you do real irrepairable damage. Read the sticky in my sig for more info. Temps during stress testing are just that...only found during stress testing. However, lower temperatures allow for more overclocking which is why we like to keep them lower.
(sig link http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/476469-truth-about-temperatures-voltages.html ) I'm running my Xeon X3440 @ 36C, it's real cold here, I'm gona overclock it further.

Is this bad? Now note my computer is kinda jammed in a corner but with air room, and it's a little bit hot up here. If it is to hot what's a good heatsink for it? All I've read about is how the i5's included one sucks. Also I put a good glob of thermal paste on it. Should I try reseating it first with a lot less? Also the reason I'm not using the stock thermal paste is because the first time I tried seating it I messed up so I just used some Arctic Silver. A lot. Like, a lot.

It's a bit high, but nothing to worry about. Are those idle or load temps?
It's alright. It's a bit high, but nothing to worry about. Are those idle or load temps?
No idea. I just got done playing a buuunch of Shattered Horizon though, if that changes anything. So i'd guess a mock idle. Oh and my GPU will hit about 78 in load but I think that's the norm for the 5xxx series. Anyway I can get some load temps?

Like, a lot.
If that's idle then it's a little high, my 750 idles at around 30C with the stock cooler. Reseating it with less thermal paste is probably a good idea. Edit: if that's just after playing SH then it's not idle, wait for an hour or so and check the temps again for idle readings.

Because I'm checking the monitor and all my temps are the same/higher. But I'll check at 10 and see if they are even higher.
under 100% cpu load, it gets up to about 98C, but just browsing fp, my cpu stays at like 55C
under 100% cpu load, it gets up to about 98C, but just browsing fp, my cpu stays at like 55C
Thats bad.
Thats bad.
I know, it's a laptop though, so it will run hot but mine is much hotter than most
and you are stress testing on your laptop why..? there isn't a point in stress testing at stock clocks for any chip, unless it's unstable or something.
I know, it's a laptop though, so it will run hot but mine is much hotter than most
Doesn't matter that its a laptop its still bad.
I wanted to know the stats for video rendering.
I can't get my CPU temp atm but my 9800GTX+ is idling at 36c right now.

oh makol you're so funny
what?
what?
Your temperatures are beyond god like. So, I'm back with my hour of idling temps. And tada, they are the same as the graph I posted. Tomorrow I'm going to reseat my heatsink with a LOT less compound, if that doesn't do it I'm just going to get an aftermarket cooler.

[editline]10:22PM[/editline] I'll play some games and post some temps in like a hour
no, I just thought if I said he was funny he would thank me
Oh. Still, look at them temps. Man, I could really use those right now.
no, I just thought if I said he was funny he would thank me
thank you for saying I'm funny. :buddy:
Oh. Still, look at them temps. Man, I could really use those right now.
it could be 20+c higher or lower, temp readings are generally inaccurate below 50c.
