everything i have seen reccomends faster ram with ryzen, how tight is your budget? if you can afford it its better to buy atleast 3000mhz ram also https://www.forbes.com/sites/antonyleather/2018/03/16/major-amazon-leak-reveals-amd-ryzen-2nd-generation-launch-date-prices-and-specifications/#1805be603565
I've been trying to get them for cheaper in the UK for ages, paying over £150 just pains me. They are supposed to be very solid and for 60 bucks off I'm sure it can't be beat!
Has anyone here had much luck or experience in going to computer recycling places to find deals? Im half tempted to drive into the city on my day off to see if I cant score any ram
I called around some local places here and had no luck, but if you're in a bigger city you'll be better off i feel. if you like old computer crap too you'll have even more fun Recently upgraded my computer, saved a lot thanks to ebay. Got an ATX cube case because im gross, love it though
When are GPU prices going down??
Not this year. Your best bet is the used market, I honestly recommend local electronics buy/sell groups on Facebook. Guy got a GTX 1080 from someone for 450bux in my local one this week.
I don't know if I can trust that. You might be paying 450 for a 680 GPU & PCB but with a 1080 fan setup screwed on.
I doubt they have much in the way of stock, but Best Buy (of all places) has been listing the 1080 at $530 for a week or so. Higher than I'd want to pay for something that cost $550 like 2 years ago, but you won't get anything cheaper nowadays.
These groups are like craigslist or gumtree, not eBay. You either go to the seller or meet them somewhere. If you're really paranoid you can ask them to demonstrate it working and if they don't want to just walk, easy.
I feel like you have better luck on eBay though considering money back guarantee and the fact eBay always sides with the buyer. You get a fake card on eBay, report the fraud and get your money back. Likely eBay will see multiple reports for the same seller. Craigslist there's no guarantee. Unless you meet them at their house so they're too afraid of you coming after them or some shit. Otherwise you likely have no recourse, you pay cash, can't change back an account or track the person down. And you would have to know the benchmark number results and have them run the same benchmark in front of you, a lot of fakes have their firmware cross flashed so they report as the Target card.
Do you go outside much? I think you have a pretty warped perspective on other people because literally no one does that, except on aliexpress. I've bought and sold used computer shit for a decade and never had a problem. For the extra-paranoid, many Police Stations have designated areas for buying and selling things. I would even argue the FB buy/sell groups (not really the wider "Marketplace") are better than CL, because they are invite-only and turn into communities with lots of regulars whose names are known, and active admins for dealing with shady posts or accounts.
join a group like r/buildapcsales/ thats how i got my 1080, there are deals out there your just not seeing them i would be careful of sites listing cards way below market price there is a uk site (novatech) that list gpu's at rrp then ask for extra when they have stock
Uh. I was just talking about the comparison between the two sources. I wasn't saying TRUST NO ONE. One has more ways to get your money back. Thus less likely to be screwed. And for my area, Craigslist usually has worse pricing.
Completely different country and all, but still, Stories Worth Sharing™. A friend of mine was looking to move on from his ancient HD 4870 + C2Q Q6600 system a while back, and found a whole bunch of refurbished HP elitedesks that some local company had swapped out. i5 4590 and 4GB of RAM, and of course they also lacked a harddrive, so not super exciting, but still pretty nice considering the asking price was only 100 USD, especially since they also still had the Windows license stickers on them. After spending some more money on a cheapo ADATA SSD, another (also refurbished) 4GB stick of RAM and a GTX 1050 Ti, it was finished. Turned into a very competent little gaming machine for like 350 USD.
Amazon cancelled my RAM order Guess it was too good to be true.
Yeah I'm probably going to email them asking what they offer in stock, which for some reason isnt on their website
I recently got a prebuilt Dell Inspiron 3668 to replace my ancient prebuilt 2010 HP Pavilion that finally failed earlier this week. The Dell has most of the specs I need out of the box but there's a couple things I'm looking to upgrade. I need a PSU that's somewhere between 400-450W, the dimensions on the PSU (about 9"x3.25"x2.5" I believe) for the Inspiron are a fair bit smaller than the PSU I had before and from most PCs in general. I've found some PSUs that fit that bill and seem to be what I need, but they don't mention the 3000-series by name so I'm not entirely sure. I'd like to find one that I know for certain fits this model before I commit to buying anything. I also noticed that this PC lacks a second 3.5" hard drive bay, something my prebuilt Pavilion did have. I've heard there's products that allow me to install a new mount provided I've got the space in the case, but I'm not having much luck finding anything like that. Anyone know of what I'm talking about or have an alternative suggestion? Thanks in advance. Although I'm talking prebuilts I think this would still fit here, I'll snip this if not.
One of my best friends just gave me a threadripper 1900X, no idea what to do with it/how to treat it properly. Any pointers/advice?
Get a motherboard with the right socket? I think you need to be slightly more specific about what you're asking here.
NVIDIA needs to release new graphics cards real soon or I'm gonna tear my hair out. I have the cash for a 1080Ti, but they're massive overpriced (even though I can get them without paying VAT) but it's still not enough to run new games like Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Final Fantasy XV and Far Cry 5 maxed out at 3440x1440. My 970 is struggling at 2560x1080 on low/medium settings. I wouldn't even mind switching to the red camp but their offerings are even crappier.
I recently changed my motherboard and my RAM from 4GB DDR3 to 8GB DDR4. Now I'm ready to make the video card jump and change my GeForce GTX 650 Ti to a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. Later I'm planning to change my i5-7400 to a i7-8700k. Question is: Are these two good options for doing an upgrade? I had this video card for 6 years and I'm hoping this new one will last around the same. I play with a 1080p 60hz display, I should be fine.
If you're just gaming, upgrading to a 8700K while being on a 1050 Ti is silly. You're not gonna be bottlenecked by your 7400 to any degree that is relevant on a 1050 Ti. So my advice is to focus on your GPU - perhaps wait for Nvidia's new line of cards that are coming out? They usually stock up at launch, so you could be lucky to get something significantly better than the 1050 Ti at around the same price, as cards might actually be available at MSRP for once. It's not clear exactly when they're gonna launch, but within the next two months is what it looks like.
Building this pc soon, pretty excited. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/fmJHNQ
Finally pulled the trigger and bought i7-8700k, Asroc Extreme4 z270 and Corsair Vengeance LPX 2400 8x2 DDR4. I am not happy with how much I had to pay, but I am very excited for the build today. Going to be a decent upgrade from my i5-2500k. I need to give that little bugger a decent Viking funeral though, it has served me without fail for nearly 7 years now.
On a trip to my nearest Fry's electronics, I finally saw first hand how devastating for GPU availability mining has become. It was kinda surreal. The shelves were completely empty, and the few graphics cards that did remain were extremely weak or extremely expensive. I wonder when this will end?
bitcoin will crash or asics will become the norm if nvidia makes mining cards, miners will just buy those and then buy all of the gaming cards
Yeah I've been getting ready to jump off this meme machine but I don't think mining is slowing down any time soon. Conversely, however, I saw a 1060, 6gb for 350 today. Tempted to get it but I'm trying to save money.
Looking at all this, so glad i got my gtx 1070 for like 450$ cad last year, now like 1000$, it just went boom in quebec, i keep hearing about major local corporation buying warehouse to fill them with miner, most keep it secret since lots get ransacked by thief and bandit, even hydro-québec is now mining, power supplier and they are among the government. Its crazy
What the fuck Canada, 1080s are still under $850 here and pricing is normally basically as shit in both places.
Canada is becoming a prime destination for miner, even some local store in my unpopulated area is accepting bitcoin as payment, and its growing.
