You can disable the recycle bin by going to 'Personalize' then 'Change desktop icons', if you want. It would look cleaner and you can always just use the delete key.

1) Not possible in Default UI. Columns UI can do it though.
2) It's called a "status bar"
3) It's spelled "foobar". "Fubar" means "fucked up beyond all R" (R could be repair, recognition, depends on who you ask)
