My desktop is boring as shit (hate desktop icons, I just use launchy) except for my wallpaper, but I just hooked up an old LCD monitor to my laptop and configured for multiple displays.
Being able to view two browser windows at once and just having additional space is nice, but the best part is having visible desktop space while you're playing a game. If you're using steam, simply bringing up the overlay will release the mouse so you can move over into the other monitor and fiddle with teamspeak, firefox, whatever.

uxtheme.dll universal patcher. And a custom visual style from Deviant art or other sites. Also , a start orb replacer comes in handy to get rid of 7's fugly default orb.

Windows Classic because my GPU is dying and can't handle appows' Haze. Would a 9800GT be okay to just handle windows + possibly WoW at 1920x1080 until I get an RMA on this 6850?

There's actually a [url=http://www.smwcentral.net/]community[/url] centered around editing Super Mario World ROMs. Some of them have a lot of enemies and blocks from other Mario games.
