Because they replace the start orb. So it in turn is a start orb.
No it's not. If it replaces an object, it doesn't become that object. An orb is something circular. Which that isn't.

It doesn't anymore, it's not a start button.
Calm down there buddy. Damn, you've been a bit of a dick today... I tried that.
Sorry, I wasn't having a good day yesterday. I felt like I was ignored/wasn't seen since you didn't reply to me saying that at first. Now I feel bad.

If you replace a circle with a square, it's still a square, it doesn't become a circle. Of course if you replace a monitor with a monitor it's a monitor. If you replace a monitor with a brick it's not a monitor.
There are Token start orbs available though...
Desktop
Love the drive names. My computer's named Theseus and my drives are Ouranos and Gaia. \/ I actually prefer it without the border, but that looks nice too.

I made my own version which is essentially the same but using negative space. New monitor. 20 inch 1600x900 for $57.99. Quite a steal.

I understand the concept of programs like rainmeter and the like, but I found that they are useless to me. This is simply because I am never at my computer just looking at my desktop. If I'm doing anything, the whole screen is being taken up. I totally understand the aesthetic appeal, but I feel like nobody sits and stares at their desktop long enough to really appreciate it. Although, it's great for showing off. Anyway, here's mine. I've done enough hating, you guys are welcome to hate on me. It's only fair. I actually have started to agree. I think rainmeter is stupid, it was using 40k of my RAM for a fucking Google Search thing on my desktop... WTF is that shit? Conky on Linux though? I love Conky.

Makes a hell of a difference. But, I digress.

Incoming boxes.
There's nothing dumb with that. If you don't think you'll need rainmeter, don't use it. People who just put stuff like that on their desktop and don't use it are pretty dumb. I find it useful to see quick info like system stats when I need it just by accessing the desktop, but it's not for everybody.
It's also just one extra thing that opens on startup which translates to longer boot times.
I don't have mine start at boot for that reason.
i only have rainmeter installed so i can install new versions of Omnimo, go "hey that's pretty neat", then uninstall it.
