How is KDE? We were using it on Backtrack 4 in school this year. No one liked it so I upgraded the monitor PC to BT5-Gnome. It just didn't feel intuitive like Gnome.

KDE got most-to-all of it's functionality back around 4.3 or so. 4.0 was supposed to be an early-adopters-only release but nobody got that memo, and that's why everybody thinks KDE4 sucks.
And I dislike the vanilla UI layout but after a little rearranging I never want to go to anything different.

I haven't got a clue what version BT4 used, but since I didn't have access to the network with the monitor box or any of the other Linux boxes(they were scared because there wasn't an anti-virus for them) I never bothered to customize it.

I've read the first one and watched the show. They're both equal in my eyes, most of the lines from the show are taken directly from the book.

Right Click > Properties > Appearance > Change "Windows XP" to "Windows Classic".
Windows Classic isn't pretty but it's a hell of a lot better than Windows Toybox.

I guess the only thing special about my desktop is the little folder next to the recycle bin, which is my dump folder. It lets me store my older temp files and keep my desktop clean. Twice a year I compress and archive its contents. You never know what you'll find, from old photos, pieces of work, to funny images from the internet.
Most of the time I find desktop wallpapers distracting. Simple Geometric shapes and patterns always stick though. They aren't as dull as plain colors and aren't as distracting as photography or other kinds of wallpapers. SimpleDesktops has a lot of good ones. For my laptop, Lappy, I have like 75 of them going in a 5 minute-switch loop. The looping wallpaper thing was a great addition for Windows 7.
Oh yeah and I launch all my programs from the start menu. I've tried custom desktop arrangements and program launchers but I think they only get the way. I also tried one of the rainmeters with the weather and giant clock. Eh, I got the time at the bottom and can quickly open up Chrome for the weather.
