Looks just like ClearType to me... nothing special.
If it looks good to you, you should try ClearType tuner. Should be somewhere in control panel.
It's not cleartype, may be just the standard windows font smoothing though (There are no coloured subpixels in his fonts, they're just antialiased/using kerning/whatever)

From left to right:
The activities menu (shows applications, search, etc.), the currently focused window, the clock, accessibility options, volume, internet connection, battery status, the settings menu (shows various settings, log out, power off, etc.).
It's not exactly the most complicated design out there.

It looks horribly cluttered even with the few things that are there. Not to mention it's not space efficient.

What the hell do you expect me to put there? A useless "places" menu? Redundant shortcuts? Besides, I'd rather have more room than I need than a cluttered shell gasping for breath.

I make all of my own wallpapers, but [url]wallbase.cc[/url] is the best website. You can search by size, aspect ratio, color, subject, sfw categories, format, and virtually anything else you can think of.

There's [b]way[/b] more than that. Granted, it looks like it's positioned in the dead center of the bar, and it probably moves itself when something else needs room, but it still confuses the living fuck out of me, even when I do know what every button does.

It makes sense. All application-based things are on the left, all settings are on the right, and there's a clock front and center. It couldn't be more simple.
