All cheap IPS panels are defective in some way. They are priced lower due to this. A lot are A- grade but you probably cannot verify this before you receive the monitor. There's a lot of B and C grade panels out there. Dell are known for using A+ grade panels, and charge the premium for this. If color accuracy and definition is important to you (for image editing etc) then don't skimp. For gaming you'll be fine.
A and A- etc just refer to the yields that can have faults. In an A grade batch 70% of panels must be free of any defects, for A- 50% of panels must be free of defects. Color accuracy, calibration, light bleed etc is not part of the panel grade. Those usually depend on the company who makes the monitor not the panel maker. The Korean ones almost all use the A- LG S-IPS panels. Those were going to be the ones used for the 27" iMac's but LG couldn't meet yields for the A panels apple wanted. The 30" Dell isn't for gaming. The 2312HM has low input lag and good response times compared to most IPS panels, but you can get better. Dell needs to cut back on there anti-glare coating, anti-glare coating shouldn't cause "sparkle." It wrecks colors compared to more normal matte finishes and glossy.
light bleed is not part of the panel grade.
Yes it is.
Dell needs to cut back on there anti-glare coating, anti-glare coating shouldn't cause "sparkle." Colors are perfect from SLR to editing to printing with professional grade machines.
Well any AG coating has some graininess, to what degree it affects what you're doing is important. I'd imagine with a Dell you'd have to have it slightly above full sRGB coverage(or slightly above AdobeRGB for printing but I think the U3011 only goes to 99%?) to compensate for the AG coating, or you'd just get used to colors being very very slightly duller looking on it than when printed. The thing people have to deal with with the Korean monitors is dead pixels and light bleed. You don't get light bleed on the Cinema Display those panels were meant for.
You still ignored my gaming statement. Otherwise, it's just a casual monitor.
Ohh, sorry about that. Thought your gamer statement was the 1920x1080 resolution thingy Also, what's wrong with it as a cheap gamer monitor?
Ohh, sorry about that. It doesn't have increased refresh rate. (Some don't get it, but once you sit behind a 120hz monitor - it feels like 60hz is just lagging after a while of usage)

Don't have enough for that :v: So I guess the trick is to never get an 120Hz if you want to keep it cheap
I game on my Dell 30, no problems. I don't see the benefit of 120Hz apart from some 3D content.
I game on my Dell 30, no problems. I don't see the benefit of 120Hz apart from some 3D content.
It's much more smooth since the screen updates more frequently. You do however have to have a high framerate for it to really be epic (120 or above if you want the extreme :v)
When it comes to quality nothing beats Dell Ultrasharp.
When it comes to quality nothing beats Dell Ultrasharp.
Pretty sure NEC offers displays that go ahead of what Dell offers, with a larger price tag to match, but still better quality wise. Even an 85Hz CRT is visibly more fluid when moving around windows and scrolling. I have a 120Hz catleap and when I set it back to 60Hz it's upsetting.
It goes, Eizo, NEC, Dell Ultrasharp as far as professional monitors go. A properly calibrated (with a professional calibrator) Dell Ultrasharp can hold it's own against an Eizo, but the Eizo's handle gradients smoother and have a little better image processing. Coming from someone who owns an Ultrasharp and Eizo. You would have to be doing extremely professional work to justify an Eizo, like the final editing of images for publishing purposes.

So are they 10 or maybe 12bit panels? That'd be pretty nice to view in person.
Most corporations buy Dell or NEC from what I've seen in person.
Most corporations buy Dell or NEC from what I've seen in person.
They buy them for the warranty. Nothing is more annoying than having to fix several monitors yourself because you thought it was a good idea to save some cash in the beginning.
Most corperations actually lease their equipment, and the leasing agencies are the ones who want the quality warranty. That's while you'll see $650 Dell 24" Ultrsharps being used by secretaries, all leased. All the beautiful equipment at my local hospitals, including one of their walls of 30" Ultrsharps (16 in a wall array) is leased.

That sounds pretty awesome.
After collapsing a lung and breaking a finger in my right hand I don't feel like I want to visit a hospital any time soon again. But if I ever am there again, I'll snap a picture. I'm sure they don't properly utilize such an awesome array.
Most corporations buy Dell or NEC from what I've seen in person.
I've actually only experienced Lenovo. But god, Lenovo everywhere. Laptops, Desktops, Monitors, Mice, Keyboards. It wasn't bad, but it was just odd :D

Though fast food restaurants and movie theaters like to get fancy and use NEC monitors for menus that are animated. [editline]7th April 2013[/editline] My workplace is probably the most inconsistent. They use a random mishmash of Dell, Gateway, eMachines, Lenovo. The computer the mechanics has a really old Mitsubishi CRT hooked up to a Lenovo machine running Win7. Still going strong for probably the past 10 years.
Is 100+ hz monitors worth it?
Is 100+ hz monitors worth it?
Yes. I have BenQ XL2420T /jizz
Yes. I have BenQ XL2420T /jizz
Do you also have 3D? Wanted to get the high hertz mainly for the smoother and frequent refreshing but i heard from reviews that the 3D can also be sweet.
Do you also have 3D? Wanted to get the high hertz mainly for the smoother and frequent refreshing but i heard from reviews that the 3D can also be sweet.
I tried 3d once on a friends laptop, it looked great. I don't have the nvidia 3d vision kit on here though, wouldn't use it daily. I only use it for the smoothness (also, it's a great panel and specifically mine has swivel, rotate & height adjust so it's pretty much everything I ask for, sadly it's a bit expensive else I would have bought 2)
Yes. I have BenQ XL2420T /jizz
The price I can get that monitor for seems too good to be true, 2ms 1080p 120hz for under $350. What's the catch? How are the colours on it? I'm looking to upgrade my old 20.5" Samsung that still works fine but is about 6 years old now and has more ghosting than a cemetery

I <'3 it bro, won't go back Also, I love the height adjust too. It also comes with some carrying bag for the panel, haven't used it yet though. [sp]About settings, if anyone owns a g930 - feel free to PM me - I have some settings that makes the audio sound amazing compared to the thin sound they produce by default[/sp]
