This looks sexy.
And it's gonna cost as much as an entire brand new budget pc. No thanks, I'll stick with the superior value of AMD.
And I'll stick with the mind-blowingly superior performance and similar value of nVidia. And we can all be happy :buddy:
Yes. The 595 is (theoretically) cooler, quieter, and more powerful. Less risk, more juice. Better bang for your buck (all 600 of them).
But will the GTX595 cost 600$? If it does, it would be awesome if I managed to cash in on the warranty of my GTX480...
But will the GTX595 cost 600$? If it does, it would be awesome if I managed to cash in on the warranty of my GTX480...
And how would you do that?
And how would you do that?
No idea, I'd also most probably just get a new 480, and not my money back.
And how would you do that?
"I swear, it just happened to short out. No, I didn't drop a paperclip on the PCB, what are you talking about? :downs:"
I have a 285. It's been good to me, so I'll wait until prices drop a little more.
Easy way to cash in on a warranty is to take the card out and rub tin foil on the back. Make sure you're wearing wool socks on the thickest carpet while doing so.

The GF100 heat issues were not to do with the efficiency of the GPU. The TDP of the 580 and 480 are almost the same, and the 580 cools better due to it having a vapor chamber and an improved cooler. The GF100 had heat issues mainly because of two reasons; the cooler it was using, and the transistors that leaked like crazy. The GF110 doesn't use transistors that leak as much and this improves power consumption but actually reduces it's overclocking potential (Anandtech has a good paragraph about that on their 580 review). I also believe Nvidia removed the HPC (High Performance Computing) part of the chip which removed a few hundred million transistors which also helped with it's power usage. This actually makes me curious to see what would happen if you put a 480 cooler on a 580, I'm sure the temperatures would go up. Or the opposite, put a 580 cooler on the 480, and I'm sure the temperatures would be much lower. Cooler temps really don't change how much heat is dumped into the room if the power consumption is the same, all it's doing is dissipating heat better. That's why I could care less about temps on a video card, because all that matters is how much power it's pulling. Still, a dual GPU 580 just doesn't sound possible. They would have to stay within the 300 watt spec limit (I suppose it's supposed to be bad thing) and since the 580 is around 240 watts you would get a 50-60 watt gain and have to severely downclock both cores and I'm not sure if the performance gain would be that great. It's been done with the 5970, but the 5870 used only 180 watts. A much more practical solution would be a dual GF114 card, that would have 2GB of vram and fully clocked cores and would probably be a better card for overclocking. It just makes me wonder what the 6990 (Antilles) has to offer then, if the 6970 uses around 220-230 watts.
I have a E8500 OC'd to 3.6, can push to 4+ I also have an 8800GT What kind of upgrade would it be if I bought this card? Would it bottleneck my CPU? Would an i5 760 handle it better? If so how much?
It would bottleneck a high end video card, yes. Although, an overclocked Core 2 Quad probably won't, such as a Q9550 if it's running at 4.0 GHZ. Core 2 Quads (the 9xxx ones) are still fast chips, and they might not be as fast as a full blown i7, they are definitely far from bottlenecking.
And it's gonna cost as much as an entire brand new budget pc. Then you have people bashing Nvidia and all the heat issues etc. Although as of late it seems people have been getting away with bashing AMD without any repercussions; just something I have noticed. Just another day on the facepunch hardware and software section I guess. On the other hand I do notice AMD has the better value for mid-range, the 6850/6870 seem to be a better card until as of late when they started price gouging (most likely due to high demand which is what happened with the 5870.) and lately those irresistible 40$ mail in rebates for the 460s which have been popping up out of no where. edit: whoa, that was a big post.
Pepper;26182997']just read it again and noticed it was 2 580s glued together asus is making a card with 2 480s on it remember that i7 980x build that axiom had? broken
i thought Ares was their ATI/AMD dual-GPU thing
you're an asshole you know that
It's an easy way to break the card without making it look like you did it on purpose, how am I an asshole?

Heh, I'm always a couple years behind in tech, as I can't really see myself putting more than 700€ in a new PC. Just bought a 460 1GB and I'm pretty satisfied with it, since my previous card was a 9800GT which promptly died after close to two years of usage. My slow-as-shit DDR2 RAM, old dual core, and shit mobo all probably factor in bottlenecking my GPU but this will last me until I buy a brand new PC I think. Consoles negating the need to upgrade very often, with their limited performance holding back major improvements in graphics and physics.
And by "perfectly fine" you mean a loud, overly hot, and faulty card?
wow
because you're breaking a perfectly fine card at the expense of the company for personal gain
That's what would keep me from trying to cash in on the warranty. I'd regret it a lot afterwards, thinking that I just ruined a perfectly functional GTX480. [editline]20th November 2010[/editline]
And by "perfectly fine" you mean a loud, overly hot, and faulty card?
Not loud, not hot, not overly faulty. Louder and hotter compared to others maybe.
And by "perfectly fine" you mean a loud, overly hot, and faulty card?
You're starting a war.
Fine. I'll snip if you guys do too.
Fine. I'll snip if you guys do too.
No. Your stupidity can stay here forever now.
Nobody's going to snip to cover up your arrogance.
I'm still rockin this piece of shit: :frog:

About time they release it
Really? Name calling? Ha.
You are quite arrogant. And while Odellus isn't much better, you should still do your homework before posting.
I wouldn't have posted unless I already had done my homework.
I wouldn't have posted unless I already had done my homework.
Then you have failed the class. F.
You're grade: E for effort.
You both get A's gj
