I've currently got a ton of components, so I'll be using the current case, dvd reader/writer, and hard drives that I have. I'm buying the week before or after the 18th, and I'm building it to game and do 3d modeling at 1680x1050 with a 1280x1024 monitor attached for things like teamspeak or ftp. I can't really go higher than $400 at newegg, but I've got like $120 in Micro Center gift cards too, so I'd like advice on what I can get there too. [img]http://i.imgur.com/8wjNr.png[/img]

[editline]3rd April 2011[/editline] it's probably better than Biostar.
I still need a PSU for that, which is kind of key.
Didn't know. What's wrong with your current one? Post the model number.
It's a 430 watt Cooler Master, not even close to working.
well you're like right on the border of being able to afford a sandy bridge build which would be a huge boost compared to a Phenom II x4 955, I'm sure someone can find you a good deal. Is the most you can spend $400 + the gift card?
Close to that, $400 at newegg and $70 + $50 at Micro Center. I'd probably be able to try and upscale, but do you have any benchmarks for sandy bridge?
1 minute [editline]4th April 2011[/editline] [URL]http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=664&Itemid=63[/URL] [editline]4th April 2011[/editline] Shame it failed to OC. And It's faster against a i7 when it comes to transcoding. WHAT THE FUCK?
That's what I was wondering about, didn't OC worth a crap, and to be honest, the question is real world performance over benchmarked performance. Assuming I can't afford sandy bridge, anything else I can do to improve my current build?
Not really much(sorry for bump)

Well, how's the climate here?
I'm afraid I'm a bit late, but here you go: [img]http://filesmelt.com/dl/asdf19.jpg[/img] [editline]8th April 2011[/editline] Google around for unlocking the CPU into an X4 [editline]8th April 2011[/editline] Though that may require more power; I'm not sure.
I'd go to Micro Center and pick out the RAM or something, it's usually cheap there, I got my HD 6850 for like $240 and a controller with vibrate and XInput functionality for like $20.
Hm, I'll let you know what I decide then. Probably getting RAM & PSU at micro center, the rest on newegg now.
That's what I was thinking would work well. Have fun with your new PC! I need a new processor soon, dual cores just aren't enough anymore :/
Not in the slightest, and thanks.
