I'd use Windows as my everyday OS if it was repository-based like most modern *nixes are. There's nothing better than typing in pacman -Syu and getting all of your software (both userland and kernel binary) updated automagically.
Best Icon Ever.
Will that stop Apple though? Doubt it, and people would buy it as "It's Apple so it's PERFECT"
I think Apple are happy enough with Pixelmator (3 down, 3 across).
...not open source enough...
more of the OS X code is open source than windows. windows is fully closed, OS X is at least mixed source
more of the OS X code is open source than windows. windows is fully closed, OS X is at least mixed source
Doesn't matter, osx is still closed. These open bits and pieces are useless, it's not like you can recompile the core or anything anyway.
Ubuntu's looks more useful than Mac's.
the ubuntu devs should have patented those features then oh wait ...
Ubuntu's looks more useful than Mac's.
Whatever will teach you proper grammar and spelling
One shouldn't be a desktop OS; the other is for people who don't understand the first statement
Justify why Linux shouldn't be a desktop OS.
LOL, you missed the part where Apple did all of those things before a shitty OS made by neckbeards for aspies did.

i know youre all just sour that mommy doesnt have enough money to buy you a mac, so you instead try to claim osx is a shit OS, when really it has taken the best of windows and linux and combined it into one fantastic package that's really worth its price point. flame me if you want, but let it be known that i actually own a brand new imac with snow leopard, and coming from a 4+ year old gaming pc, it's safe for me to say that i spent my hard earned dollars quite well. talk when you've actually owned a mac, and not with your quasi-intellectual opinions.
You are both awful trolls.
full screen apps holy FUCK [editline]28th October 2010[/editline]
Whatever will teach you proper grammar and spelling
That is proper grammar and spelling.
Justify why Linux shouldn't be a desktop OS.
I think the lack of consistency with all distributions would be confusing to the average person. (Meaning that distros aren't like other distros). Also the fact the average person expects their computer to be able to do stuff out of the box, not have to go download all sorts of stuff due to licenses and restrictions.
Doesn't matter, osx is still closed. These open bits and pieces are useless, it's not like you can recompile the core or anything anyway.
Opendarwin
Justify why Linux shouldn't be a desktop OS.
Mostly due to the fact all Linux Desktop distro's are just copying MS or OSX, but touting OPEN SOURCE! FREE AS IN FREE BEER! IM DIFFERNT LOOK AT ME! for a majority on the market it needs to be unified, which it will never be.
Mostly due to the fact all Linux Desktop distro's are just copying MS or OSX, but touting OPEN SOURCE! FREE AS IN FREE BEER! IM DIFFERNT LOOK AT ME! for a majority on the market it needs to be unified, which it will never be.
the goal isn't market majority. the goal is for people who are already using it to like it. I, and many other Linux users, personally don't care how many others use Linux. I'd continue using it if it was just rms and Torvalds, and I'd continue using it if it had 100% market share, as long as I can continue to do the same things with it. also there isn't a single distro intentionally copying OSX or Windows other than Ubuntu, but that doesn't count since Ubuntu is so shitty.

IM DIFFERNT LOOK AT ME! for a majority on the market it needs to be unified, which it will never be.
Sweet baby Jesus I hope you're kidding. Linux developers aren't pouring their time and effort into writing free, huge scale or small scale distributions that can be used by business owners and Linux savvy computer users alike, just so they can be unique and cool. They're doing it to improve the experience of current Linux users and keep their distros up to date with the real world. God forbid Linux distributions keep updating to still be technologically relevant.

If it is actually functional a Distro may include it by default as it may help the transition easier. If you want anyone to blame, blame the community.
You are both awful trolls.
For when you have no argument: call someone a troll. I tried to use desktop Linux for a few years, and during those years, Linux went absolutely nowhere. So now, I just make fun of it. Especially hilarious is when delusional fanbois are convinced that Linux came up with feature X first and start foaming at the mouth at these companies for "ripping them off". The exact same thing happened with Compiz and Aero/Expose/whathaveyou, even though MS and Apple were doing demos of these features at tech conferences years beforehand. And still, to this very day, there are dumbass neckbeards who are absolutely convinced that Compiz was groundbreaking, and everyone else ripped "them" off.

Compiz reminds me of DCE back in 2002/2003.
Ubuntu 10.10 user here. OSX is not UNIX. Linux is not stratified, Mint is Linux as much as Arch is Linux. All Os's have their flaws. No-one "Steals", they simply improve.
OSX is not UNIX.
I'm going to go ahead and call you out on this.
There is a difference between being UNIX and being a UNIX derivative.
Well OSX is arguably the most UNIX-like modern operating system, at the kernel level at least.
Well OSX is arguably the most UNIX-like modern operating system, at the kernel level at least.
No. *BSD's are.
No. *BSD's are.
Apple's Darwin kernel is about at the same point of divergence from vanilla BSD as (Free/Net/etc.)BSD is at this point. Hence "arguably."
Although it may be very similar to UNIX, OSX is not "true" UNIX.
[citation needed]
For what? That Linux users are delusional? Or that Compiz came in last place between the three major OSes? (which is well-documented, do your own fucking research)

On iPad, every app is displayed full screen, with no distractions, and there’s one easy way to get back to all your other apps. Mac OS X Lion does the same for your desktop. You can bring an app to full screen with one click, switch to another full-screen app
HOLY FUCKING SHIT FULL SCREEN APPLICATIONS!! TOTALLY WILD!
The Launchpad gives you instant access to your apps — iPad style. Just click the Launchpad icon in your Dock. Your open windows fade away, replaced by an elegant, full-screen display of all the apps on your Mac. It takes just a swipe to see multiple pages of apps, and you can arrange apps any way you like by dragging an app icon to a new location or by grouping apps in folders.
WOW, IT'S LIKE, A HYPERADVANCED DESKTOP THING!? MINDBLOWING!
Introducing the best place to discover and buy new apps made just for Mac, right on a Mac. Just like shopping the App Store on iPad, the Mac App Store offers endless possibilities to browse and purchase apps.
IT'S LIKE THE APPLE ITUNES STORE... ONLY WITH PROGRAMS???? REVOLUTIONARY!
Mission Control is a powerful and handy new feature that provides you with a comprehensive view of what’s running on your Mac. It gives you a bird’s-eye view of everything — including Exposé, Spaces, Dashboard, and full-screen apps— all in one place. With a simple swipe gesture, your desktop zooms out to Mission Control.
WOW, JUST LIKE SHITTY THING IN WINSHIT SEVEN, BUT OBVIOUSLY REDESIGNED WITH ADVANCED APPLE ELEGANCE SHEER PERFECTION! I'll admit, I didn't think Apple would take LION in such a revolutionary direction, but I stand both corrected, and amazed. I know for a fact that this will exceed expectations when it comes out, and will continue to amaze us.
[editline]30th October 2010[/editline] Quotes everywhere.
