That's not what i said. [editline]09:38PM[/editline] Just pick a card out of a hat
The fermi cards are good, but get a fucking 5850 before I start crying.
What? They make the rest of the system hotter not cooler...
It was a joke. I was poking fun at derlicious for being silly.
What psu do you have?
OCZGXS600
You can get an MSI GTX 470 for $299 USD on Newegg.
DAMN. gtx 470 OP, even if it's 3-4 fps behind the 5850 at times, it's soooo worth it for how much better it is at tesselation.
Like Odellus said get this one. It has killer performance for that money and outperforms 5850 in almost every game.
It was a joke. I was poking fun at derlicious for being silly.
It's not what i meant :colbert: I was saying it so that you guys wouldn't care about heat as much :saddowns:
It all fine, man. :downs:
My GTX 480 only gets hot if you A) Leave the fan on the default auto configuration or B) Over clock the shit out of it. The 480 and 470 have a lot of over clocking potential, my card idles at 45c and under 100% load gets to around 75c and it is over clocked. Nvidia seem to want to make the cards quieter and let them run hotter by default. Tools such as MSI Afterburner will allow you to set what speed the fans run at when the GPU is at certain temperatures. So yes get a GTX 470 and you should be able to overclock it and have the benefits of it being future proofed for games that use tessellation heavily.
It's not what i meant :colbert: I was saying it so that you guys wouldn't care about heat as much :saddowns:
It's summer time right now and you think we should negligate the heat? [editline]04:51PM[/editline] And it's not about only heat, but the power consumption too
It's summer time right now and you think we should negligate the heat? [editline]04:51PM[/editline] And it's not about only heat, but the power consumption too
Well if the case isnt all shitty and you are able to withstand the noise then the heat isnt going to be a problem. Neither is the power consumption since the PSU can easily handle the 470 and its only going to cost a little bit more a year than for example the 5850.
It's summer time right now and you think we should negligate the heat? [editline]04:51PM[/editline] And it's not about only heat, but the power consumption too
Oh come on summer doesn't make shit difference.
Oh come on summer doesn't make shit difference.
Hey moron. When ambient temperature is higher because you don't use your Air conditioner and your house is 85 degrees Fahrenheit you don't think that affects running temperatures? Stop posting thanks.

5850 does teselation fine. What you see in heaven benchmark is a heavy use of it, it won't be that detalied in games at first. By the time ATI and Nvidia releases the next series we might see SOME use of tesselation. With time it will get more detailed, then the 5xxx will lack behind, and later the GTX4xx will too. 5850 will keep up with todays games. Hell even tomorrows games in 1920x1200.
I was talking more about 480/5970 because derlicious seems to be an idiot who care only about performance.
lol, performance should be the only thing you care about to an extent. Heat output and power consumption shouldn't mean shit to someone who is even considering a GTX 470. [editline]05:15PM[/editline]
5850 does teselation fine. [editline]05:16PM[/editline] And the 5 series has great overclocking potential but no where near what the 4 series does, and we all thought it would be terrible because NVIDIA was really trying to get temperatures and power consumption down by cutting clocks.
As long as your room temperature is reasonable (around 22), the 470 won't get hot, my GTX480 idles at 45-something and reaches a maximum of 80C. So heat shouldn't really factor in your decision unless you have a high temp in your room or bad airflow in the case.
I was talking more about 480/5970 because derlicious seems to be an idiot who care only about performance.
What. Isn't that the point?
Hey moron.
What. Isn't that the point?
Not at all. [editline]01:38PM[/editline] Noise. Heat. and Power are important points [editline]01:38PM[/editline] Price too
Not at all. [editline]01:38PM[/editline] Noise. Heat. and Power are important points
None of them are important if you have a reasonable case and PSU, stop arguing the same stupid rhetoric
If you live in the UK: Dont get a Fermi card. If you live anywhere else where the price hasn't been inflated to a fucking ridiculous level: maybe.
Fermi cards are pretty ridiculious on price too in France (300-370€ for 5870; +400€ for GTX470 at least)
Same here in Finland, cheapest GTX470 350€ and cheapest 5870 is 360€. But if you live in US(or buy from newegg) 470 has great value for money(the MSI for 300$)
If you live in the UK: Dont get a Fermi card. And seeming you get roughly about 10+fps and a more futureproof card with great tessellation and stuff i think it's worth it.
Fine i'm a bit of a 4xx series fanboy :saddowns:
[editline]02:30PM[/editline] Hurr
Yeh i'm a bit of a fermi fanboy BECAUSE THEY ARE GOOD
GTX480 is £70 more MAXIMUM. And seeming you get roughly about 10% faster on average Its not really worth the outlay, unless your card MUST read Nvidia down the side instead of ATi.
Fix'd. And I agree with ADT, Tessellation is another one of those features where you have to be actively looking for the difference to even notice it. Its all marketing.
Not really. I have a GTX480 and i notice a difference. Don't judge stuff till you have them, you don't PERSONALLY know what they are like. My friend has a 5870 and i've played on it and i know that the GTX480 is better.
Ever heard about having a window open? I don't sit in my room all day making it stuffy.
Sometimes it's warmer outside than it is inside.
Yes but if you have a window open and a door open it gives good airflow making the room cooler. Unless you are a fat farting sweating shit
How about the 5870? I'm stuck between that and a superclocked 470...
