How about the 5870? I'm stuck between that and a superclocked 470...
Did you mean the 5850? as the 5870 is much better than a 470.
A 5870 is better than a 470, but costs more.
A 5870 is better than a 470, but costs more.
Not really, depends of the country.
And it's generally 20-30€ less or more than 470.
You make me rage so much.
But hey go for a 5870 anyway.
Sweet. I'm going for the 5870, I live in the US and the 5870 is only like 30 dollars more than the 470.
You make me rage so much.
Lol. You'd better to relax, boyo.
Why the fuck did you idiots just let that guy go and buy a 5870 when he could have gotten the MSI GTX 470 for $300?
[editline]05:38PM[/editline]
Did you mean the 5850? as the 5870 is much better than a 470.
No, it's not.
[editline]05:38PM[/editline]
I swear to fucking god ADT and derlicious need to be forcefully shunned from this section.
Boyo.
Lol'd

It's probably only $30 more because you're comparing it to one of the most expensive fucking 470s (and most pointless).

This
No, it's not.
So I should get a 470? I'm stuck...
This is the 470 I was looking at... http://bit.ly/bks3Sl
And this was the 5870 I was going to get... http://bit.ly/ceP76b
The 470 is obviously, a little overclocked...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127501
is cheaper
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127501
is cheaper
Yeah just get this.
I know I'm always saying MSI is shit, but for a deal like this, they can be golden for once.
Thanks man! That might just allow me to get an SSD.
Is MSI good enough?
Edit:
I've always thought they were kinda shitty too...
Thanks again guys, that actually subtracted 100 dollars from my $1750 build.

For $300, they're great.
Don't bother with SSDs and you should really post a thread in PC Building and have the guys over there evaluate your build and offer suggestions that might make a big difference.
SSD are optionnal, they will be worth it when less expensive, even though they are useful actually.
I realize those Fermi cards run really hot, is this video card cooler any good? http://bit.ly/bUlsVn
My case will be a Cooler Master HAF 932, for optimal airflow.
Yes but if you have a window open and a door open it gives good airflow making the room cooler.
Except you're exchanging cooler air, inside the house, for warmer air, outside. The room wouldn't become cooler unless it was releasing air that was cooler than the air it was taking in.

That won't fit the 470 and you don't need aftermarket cooling for it anyway. With a HAF 932 at 70% fan, you should be seeing load temperatures of... ~75C.
I hear Sharkoon coolers were really good and were not noisy at all.
[editline]09:12AM[/editline]
Fractal design coolers too, but not as succesful as Sharkoon.
I love my 5850, got it yesterday along with my new PC :D
It's just fucking noisy

Huh?
Ive got my OC'd one in a god damn Sonata III(which isnt excatly the world's quietest case) and the fan never goes past 30%(@60°C) and I cant hear a thing.
Still I got it for 270€ and the back here the GTX 470 is 350€, which is why you(OP) should buy the 470 since it's much better value for money in US and the 5850's prices are a bit too much there.
I replaced all the fans on my PC with Gentle Typhoon's only to realise it's my CPU fan making all the noise. :unsmith:

Mine is locked on 50%.. I don't know if it's the CPU, GPU or chassi fans though

I have a HAF932 and a GTX480, idles around 45C and goes to 80C max under heavy load. So you don't have to worry about heat (especially whne the card is made to withstand temps much higher than that).
The above is on default fan speed too.

Cool :rimshot:
Is a 750 watt power supply too much If I'm just powering all the basic components and just 1 video card?
Yes it is too much.
ACDS is the same as me. CM690 II GTX 480 Idles ~45c Max ~80c, not noisy
I'd get some better PSU incase of upgrade.

Well, a 750 watt good quality PSU would give you a lot more headroom to upgrade in the future.
So if you can find a good quality 750 PSU at a good price it's a good idea to get one, futureproofing is always good.
[editline]01:22PM[/editline]
Buying a 650 watt PSU now and then buying a larger one later would cost you more than just buying a 750 watt now. 125$ (the 750 watt) + 50$ (the 650 watt) is 175$, so in the end you are just saving money.
750 watts is actually too much for any computer.
My Phenom II X6 1090t/5870 uses at least 300-400 watts at charge.

with a Seasonic X-Series 650W
