He will in 2-4 years, he never changes his PC out unless he needs a new one.
Future-proofing is just total bullshit.

You don't know how hardware and software will change in 2-4 years
mactrekkie you sorta undershot the budget :v: Ill just get him an i5 since I can get it in for under 1k and then use the rest for ssd and green fans. Thanks everyone.
I undershot the budget by an enormous amount because your father doesn't need a CAD 1250 computer.
Why can't people get the simple logic behind the fact that spending less for great is better than spending too much for greater, with no reasons. Money is important, and you shouldn't spend it all in a damned computer if you can get something that'll last long and will do whatever you want for less. I know that kids don't understand that, but you should try to now.
he makes >1m a year Im sure he doesn't give a whole crapload of 1000$
You have really an habit to burn up all of your money, huh?
Nothing fanboy there, it's just hexacores from AMD suck for what you get, and what you should be getting, and even so, I said Intel or AMD, not saying one sucks and the other doesn't.
I messed up and thought the title meant Autocad not Canadian dollars v:v:v
Nobody invited you to post in the hardware and software section, yet you post anyway.

I'm surprised he hasen't bought a smarter son yet.
He wants to play battle field bad company maxed out (Just one 1680x1050 monitor) And he needs processing power for work related issues and multitasking. So a CPU that can multi-task a lot.
I think a i7 980x/12GB RAM/Triple GTX 470/Quadrable SSD's in raid will suffice. I'm not sure, though, maybe he should get quad GTX 580? And why not watercool it?

Needs at least 2 of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117228
Which means one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182176
Which unfortunately cannot support quad SLI so that means that it is impossible to satisfy him...
How about one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117228
On one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131642
With three of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130590
And 8 of these in RAID 0: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227560
Which means you probably need a RAID card. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816115028
There, that should do it.
Two of the Xeon's for this for mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188070&cm_re=classified_sr-2-_-13-188-070-_-Product
Allowing 4 GTX 580's
Also, 4 kits of Corsair Dominator 12 gig Hexa-Channel Kits. Only 48gb for less than $1400.
if you get 2 of them motherboards and connect them by a sata cable its basically mobo SLI so you have have 4 cpus
Fuck that. Four cpus and two motherboards is 'overkill' and 'expensive'
Fuck that. Four cpus and two motherboards is 'overkill' and 'expensive'
well you have like 9 sata ports so it will get overkills around 7-9 sli mobos
well you have like 9 sata ports so it will get overkills around 7-9 sli mobos
That's true. How foolish of me.
Daisy chain'd motherboards with sataports.
With 9 motherboards, we could have 36 580's and 432gb's of ram.
well if you have 9 you have no room for solid state disk drives unless you use usb sticks
We'd have to fabricate our own enclosure with proper cooling for this behemoth.
Liquid nitrogen chamber or antartica?
I vote liquid nitrogen bath.
then mount the heatsink wrong and run prime 95
also do bios flash

No worries, I can always blame someone else for my mistake.
