everyone claiming alienware laptops are good quality don't know what a decent quality laptop is
for example a decent laptop manufacturer doesn't manage to keep a history of shitty hinges through every line of laptop

A post with less bullshit opinions and fanboyism:
The danish TV channel known as "DR", tested Dell products and their subbrand Alienware, and not only were the support awful, but their high-end alienware-series laptops had a large reputation for overheating and having faulty hardware.

hah, missed it earlier but someone even posted the hinges problem in this thread
I got an Alienware m15x for graduation about 2 years ago, I've had to send it in twice for repairs due to the monitor hinges cracking from constant opening/closing.
this problem is still showing up in the m11x

MSI or asus for a laptop.
They will give really really good deals if you call, get an American rep, and are a good smooth talker.
I got a great deal on an unsold R1 (the R2 is out) M17x. It's amazing, once you can get it working. BIOS are buggy, but once you get a working combination, it's really good.

I heard some people were having problems with that line of laptops. Not sure, but in either case ASUS and MSI are the best laptop brands out there imo.

My cousin just picked up one of these. If you can get beside the fact that it's ugly as hell (although I'd take these looks over the flashy red leds in Alienware laptops any day) and that it weighs a ton (but you are already willing to sacrifice mobility if gaming is what you want). It's like 50 bucks more expensive than the MSI.
Edit:
Actually there's been some problems with that laptop. I might have been thinking of something else. Of course any brand has a failure rate so yeah go MSI/ASUS.
I know I will get flamed to fuck and back for posting this but I don't care. I saved up a bit of money for a gaming computer a year and a half or so ago. I got a MacBook Pro. I won't pretend to claim it is the fastest ever, it's not. It is, however, the most reliable computer I have ever seen. I have had to send it in for repairs four times. Twice, I dropped it from about seven feet and broke the hard drive. Another time, one of the fans was defective. The first time, the hard drive it came with was defective. I got it back within three days each time. AppleCare covered the costs of it every time. It has really good performance. It will play Source games at high to very high, and more modern games at medium-high. The newest ones should be able to play pretty much anything at very high. It is indestructible as hell. The screen! OH GOD THE SCREEN!! It is AMAZING! So deep and bright, and the viewing angle is amazing. I'm sure other laptops have amazing screens(umm, can't name any right now) or are indestructible(Toughbook series), but you also get the operating system. I know many people do not like OS X, and that is fine. You can install Windows or Linux if you want. I know it is expensive, but I definitely will keep this laptop for many more years.
I don't want to start a massive debate here, but if you are looking to buy an Alienware, you probably don't mind spending money. You still get great performance, but you get a lot more bang for your buck.

I agree but hey what you going to do I looked at the CPU on the Mac which I loved but if that was like Nvidia 350 or 360 I would buy it (330 is worst than the GT9800 I hear)
the GT 330M is more like a 9700M GTX. it's not the best but it can get the job done.
the GT 330M is a dedicated GPU, you're thinking of the GT 320M.

Is this a joke? You bought that expensive MacBook Pro, and you can run Source Games at high-very high and modern games at ONLY medium-high? You could have gotten a much better laptop for the same/less price.
when you buy a alienware imo you buy the brand name more than the product... but thats me i just hate alienware period idk why and idk when i started :frog:

Do you realize you could've saved 300-400 bucks by getting an ASUS with better performance and just as reliable?
I have an Aurora 7500, it's great.
Zero complaints.
It came with two 8800 GT's, and a physics card. I gave one of the 8800's to my friend because SC2 fried his card, and all my brand new games (Like Dead Rising 2 and shit) still run at perfectly consistant frame rates, at highest settings.
They're built to play.
[sp]Hell, my avatar is from in-game screens I took. I like it[/sp]
I would go with an Asus laptop their laptops are pretty neat.
