I have to second this. I have ASUS laptop since 2007 and I like it.
Same here.
Have had my ASUS for nearly a year, handles me taking it with me to school every day of the year, costs way less than a macbook and runs DX10 games nicely.
I know I will get flamed to fuck and back for posting this but I don't care. I saved up a bit of money for a gaming computer a year and a half or so ago. I got a MacBook Pro. I won't pretend to claim it is the fastest ever, it's not. It is, however, the most reliable computer I have ever seen. I have had to send it in for repairs four times. Twice, I dropped it from about seven feet and broke the hard drive. Another time, one of the fans was defective. The first time, the hard drive it came with was defective. I got it back within three days each time. AppleCare covered the costs of it every time. It has really good performance. It will play Source games at high to very high, and more modern games at medium-high. The newest ones should be able to play pretty much anything at very high. It is indestructible as hell. The screen! OH GOD THE SCREEN!! It is AMAZING! So deep and bright, and the viewing angle is amazing. I'm sure other laptops have amazing screens(umm, can't name any right now) or are indestructible(Toughbook series), but you also get the operating system. I know many people do not like OS X, and that is fine. You can install Windows or Linux if you want. I know it is expensive, but I definitely will keep this laptop for many more years.
I don't want to start a massive debate here, but if you are looking to buy an Alienware, you probably don't mind spending money. You still get great performance, but you get a lot more bang for your buck.
The (main) reason I looked at getting a MBP was because of the portability. Apparently with Macs, it'll either work or it won't. My M17x is real bitch to carry around everyday in my backpack (~12 lbs /w charger), but it's really great for times like right now. Wifi in study hall ftw.

Although the desktops are over priced their laptops/netbooks are fairly decent. I've got an m11x and it does very well for it's price and size. It's very well built too. So for laptops I'd say yeah, they can be trusted.

Just 750$ for a GTX 260M, 2.53GHz P8700 that can be OC'ed to 2.9GHz in one click, and 6GB ram...
I personally own it and NOTHING beats it.

How do you know he didn't manage to earn the money himself like you did? You just fired off 2000$ on a desktop, and this guy wants to use some money, and you say he's a rich bastard? Sorry to say, but you're fucking stupid sometimes..

I've had my 6860fx for 3 years now, and it has never needed a repair. Given, I don't make a habit of dropping my computers, but that doesn't change the fact that I paid less than half of what you did, get similar performance, and don't have to worry about sending it away to get it repaired.
If you really need a gaming computer, OP, go MSI or Asus rather than buying overpriced stuff like Alienware or a MBP.

i was thinking of getting a m15x laptop from alienware
but i hear some people been having hard time with it working doing some tasks or overheating and such i just want to know if i can trust these laptops to work
reason why i want this laptop because its the only place where i can get a gaming laptop with a intel® core™ i5-540m 2.53ghz (3.06ghz turbo mode, 3m cache) and a 1gb gddr5 ati radeon™ mobility hd 5850
i don't care about it being overpriced i just want to know if i can trust it to work
i am also not getting a desktop right now because i have one right now with the best cpu/cpu
Why the hell would you do that???? I mean I've fallen once with a laptop, but I made sure that never happened again... But you did it twice? And if it's so indestructible, how come the hard drive broke? (Yes I do realize a drop of 7 feet will kill a hard drive in pretty much any computer.)
Never buy alienware. No exceptions.
Look who's talking
I saved up for a long period of time, working for my own money. Like a lot of people do I wanted to spend it so I did. My old pc just died too so the build came in just in time.

Well, in my room, to save space, I use a loft bed, which is a bunk bed without the bottom bunk. And by indestructible, I mean the casing is. Literally not even a dent. If I had an SSD I probably would not have had to send it back at all.

I do feel bad for that Mac then. It got lucky too it didn't land in a way to break the screen. The one time I did drop my computer I don't believe I cracked the case, but I do know it was running and I killed the hard drive, probably magnet connected with the disc inside, or some other way fucked it. Fair enough though, I'll give it a bit of indestructability there.
Personally I like how a Macbook Pro feels. Nice smooth shiny design to it, all of that. I just can't get over A. the operating system, although I'm acquainting myself with it through college; B. the touch pad(so used to tapping it, actually have to click the thing, it's weird); and C. most importantly, the fucking price. Goddamn I wish someone would make something comparable that natively runs windows. I might just buy one if it was reasonably priced.
Back on topic, I've only seen one alienware laptop in my life, my cousin had one. Came over a few times, played COD 4(this was a little while back) with me and my dad, he basically had to have the thing plugged in at all times, otherwise he'd get about 30 minutes of battery life. That's all I know of from experience, everyone else seems to have their other reasons to say, no that's ridiculous. Oh and also, it's too much money for what you get.
If the quality is anything like my Dell, you're pretty damn safe.
This thing goes everywhere with me and is on basically 24/7 - Not a single fault.
Well, even though you'd rather build your own rig. They do have nice casings.
lots of bullshit in this thread. I've had my m11x for half a year now, works flawlessly. Having some minor problems with the screen hinge but no big deals. great laptop.
No reason to bash Alienware. Sure, it may be overpriced but you act like it's a piece of shit. Before I was computer-literate I had purchased an Alienware Aurora desktop and it was amazing, I still use the motherboard, harddrive, processor. I upgraded the case and PSU, but other than that, it's given me no problems in 2 years of having it.

My M1210 is still going strong. Aside from the battery finally quitting on me, it's really given me no major issues.
Although I'm really not a fan of Alienware machines at all, my friend bought the M11x from someone he knows. Granted he only paid $500 for it. But I'm not going to bash it just because of the logo on the casing, it's a decent little machine. I wouldn't want to pay full price it, though.
I'd say I'm smarter because I just saved a ton of money by building it myself. :colbert:
I, myself, never argued that they were bad machines; I argued that they aren't worth the price being charged at all. I'm not smarter because I know how to slap parts together, I'm smarter because I know how to manage my money instead of spending it willy-nilly on a machine I could build for literally thousands of dollars less.
Well I was sucked in by pretty lights and a good-as-fuck computer, shoot me.
But the price is steep. I will admit that. But after paying an extra grand just for the Alienware logo, I'm still happy with it. It's better than most people's computers, as are the REAL custom built ones.

you paid a huge premium (on top of the inflated component prices) for a shiny light-up plastic case with an alien head on it and for it to be built for you
on paper it's good, just like it looked when you were configuring it, too bad it's made up of no name brand components that are likely to shit out on you within a year or two. Makes me feel good that I built my own with quality components that I know aren't going to break and even if they do, most of them are covered by lifetime warranties.
