Cheaper, same features.
And that 460 doesn't look like it's gonna be very effective at cooling itself in SLI.
Buy this instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500169
2X DVI and 2X HDMI, instead of two gay VGA and only one HDMI (Not that you need 2 DVI and two HDMI outputs, but you don't need two VGA either.)
eww blower fan
if anything the cyclone is the best cooler for SLi because it's airflow isn't restricted by what can get into the fan (and with a second card in front you're going to be even more restricted) and instead you get extra cooling from incidental airflow from any other fans
sure the heat is exhausted into the case but it's not like this will have any noticeable effect unless your case is a sealed box or you have a shitty prebuilt case with one fan as exhaust

If I go with your motherboard I wouldn't need to worry about my cards cooling systems in SLI since your mobo doesn't support SLI. There's a reason it's cheaper. :colbert:

Where does it say that it doesn't CF/SLI?
In mine, both in the details and features page, it advertises SLI/Crossfire support. In yours there is no mention of it anywhere.

There's two PCI-E 2.0 X16 slots, and as far as I'm concerned, SLI will be possible as long as there is two PCI-E slots.

Not according to nVidia website it isn't. The GD55 mobos are not supported.

Just FYI, parts arriving tomorrow. Only 15 miles away at the moment, I can almost taste them! Anyways, I'll probably fuck something up so expect a post on how much I suck pretty soon.
What did you end up ordering anyway?
Let's see if this link works: https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=14005385
The local computer experts at my school(Yes, a school with a competent tech department *GASP!*) said it was a good setup. Both of them use similar parts. Case is already here for a few days and GOOD GOD THE FANS ARE HUUUUUUGE!!!
Didn't work, screenshot?

my bad
This turned into a fucking shitstorm.
Couldn't anyone just give him a build to go with and work from there?

By the way I'm pretty sure you'll need SATA cables for your HDD and whatnot.
Okay, I have the motherboard out with the CPU seated just fine, but when I close the cover thingy, it is really hard to close. I can't see ANY problems with my alignment. Am I doing it wrong? It's the right socket.
Nevermind, I just needed to press down on the tip of the cover thingy. Going well so far.
UPDATE: I got the motherboard and disk drive installed just fine. All the RAM is loaded on the mobo. Disk drive is secured firmly in place. The replacement back panel that came with the mobo has pretty colors. I am off to get Windows 7 now, because I forgot to get it before, and then I am back to work.
Okay, all of the BIOS and stuff works far as I can tell. Apparently I need some sort of other connector thing for the disk and hard drives. I'm calling it quits for tonight.
Sata cables?
Sata cables?
Need power cables for both and an IDE connector for the disk drive.
All of the cables you need come with the motherboard in most of cases, naturally. If you don't have any SATA cables, then call me surprised. You can buy them cheap on Newegg if you somehow don't.
You don't have a PSU? :psyduck: I don't see how you're missing cables unless the PSU you're using is extremely old. Any new PSU is going to be fitted with both SATA and standard 4-pin Molex connectors.
Funnily enough, all the power cables I needed were in a box with "CABLE SETS" in bright bold shining silver letters on it sitting right on the top of the case. And no, my motherboard did not come with an IDE cable. Or SATA cables. But the HDD came with a pair of SATA cables. I know that I should have gotten a SATA drive, but I honestly never thought to check. Besides, is IDE really that much worse than SATA for disk drives? Almost all my games are digitally based, so the disk drive is just a formality, really.
Kay, all working now. I just need to run an Ethernet cable all across the house and we are golden. I splurged for a SATA drive instead of just getting the cable, because Fry's has the worst system for keeping track of things and we couldn't find a pATA cable. I'll keep the other drive so when I convert our ~5000 CDs to digital I can do it twice as fast.
Everything working brilliantly. Having much fun with the nVIDIA Rocket Sled. About all I can do until I get a wireless card. No house wide ethernet system at all, all Apple products are wireless so never needed it :S
Automerge? :saddowns:
I am posting this from my computer. I won. I FUCKING WON! Wireless card, two disk drives, terrabyte hard drive, i7, gtx-460, it's all come together into something... BRILLIANT!
Couldn't you have gotten an i5 and a better GPU?
Couldn't you have gotten an i5 and a better GPU?
Sure, if all I wanted to do was game. I picked this i7 because I want this to also be my rendering machine. The GPU is working just fine for me as is. If it really needs an upgrade I'll just get another.
All right
Sorry to bring this topic up again, but I figured better to bring this one back up than make a new one. My case is a little bit warm, and it has two free 60mm fan slots. Could someone recommend me one? I know next to nothing about case fans other than mine are RAINBOWS.
If it's just a little "warm", it's perfectly fine
[editline]22nd October 2010[/editline]
GPUs are the main source of warm, so you don't have to worry
