What was the battery life of the original transformer?
Very intensive usage (7 hour drive Plus 3 hour ferry) all watching videos and it's still running. It'll easily last half a week moderate usage, if not longer. The 8 hour claim on the tablet battery by Asus is fairly modest compared to how long this will last with brightness at minimum and no WiFi, where I'd estimate it would last for 10 hours.
Minecraft will eat your battery.
The TF Prime doesn't come out till next year actually
It looks sexy as fuck though, retails for about $500 which isn't bad
I just don't see a reason for Tegra 3 though, hardly anything uses the full capabilities of Tegra 2 yet... the only upside is that T3 supports 1080p smooth playback, but thats only useful if you have a 1080p video on your device and you play it via HDMI out on your TV. Oh and it gets slightly more useful battery life.
The best thing about the TP though is sexy aluminum backing (too bad its a fingerprint magnet) and its form factor being so light and small.
If I didn't just get my TF a couple of months ago, I would probably get the TP

Wasn't it confirmed to be out in december/january?
right now, it's outclassed by other tablets and it's power button is retardedly placed
What's funny is that this reply was made from a xoom. :v:

DADDY LIKES THAT!
yes he does.
Seriously though, that's probably the only tablet I'd be interested in.

I'm feeling what an MacRumors user must feel when looking at a new Apple product. Sure I don't need the Prime, but I want it so badly. Hell, I don't even get full use out of this!

Well I currently have a 17" laptop for when doing computer intensive tasks on-the-go, but I could really use something smaller and more practical for more casual tasks.
Maybe if there's a good reason for me to upgrade from the standard Transformer then, maybe in a year with more intensive apps. Would be really cool to run a full OS on this, I think that it can be done...

People have run KDE, Debian, and Ubuntu on the transformer

Uhh, KDE is a desktop environment, not a OS itself.
I was hoping to ask my parents for an Asus Transformer for Christmas, is this a good idea or is there something really bad about the Transformer I don't know about? I looked around at the tablets and it seems to be the best all around for the price.
Using it for school and general travelling, my current laptop is 12+ pounds so it's not fun to carrry around along with books on a large campus all day.
I recommend the Toshiba Thrive. I got it and its epic. Only bad thing is, the speakers aren't as loud as they should.

maybe wait since the TF Prime might be out, which appears to be even thinner, prettier and better

Yea, don't know why I said KDE
Gnome , unity, xfce(?), kde are environments

I'll say that it does feel a tiny bit flimsy, and is heavy for a tablet (and light for a netbook), but as Protocol said, wait and see with the Prime.
Also, no 3G, if that's something you want.
I love mine to bits, though.

To be honest I'd feel bad asking my parents for something as expensive as the Prime is going to be for Christmas. I chose the Transformer because it was fairly cheap for a higher end tablet.
To be honest I'd feel bad asking my parents for something as expensive as the Prime is going to be for Christmas. But yes, we should be seeing a fall in Transformer 1 prices when the TP comes out.
Just bear in mind that Windows is still a much more suitable environment for most things, and if you are taking a comp sci course which requires the use of a certain program, chances are there is no variant of it for android. Its really the only reason why I still use my clunky old laptop.

It will cost the same
Errr no it won't
Prime will cost $500 USD, and thats without the keyboard (I'm 90% sure of that)
Current MSRP of the TF is $400, but I think its marked down to $350 now
In any case, the TF is a great device that I totally reccomend. I love using it as a tablet at home, and then using it as a netbook at school or out and about (I feel like a smug rich douche if I use it as a tablet in public for whatever reason :v: )
The screen is awesome, and the whole thing will be upgraded when ICS is released for free.
That said I'm extremely tempted to get the Prime. It's just a flat-out upgrade in every single way. Better battery life, much greater power that can output smooth 1080p video apparently (right now you can only get smooth 720p playback with the right video player and the right file formats), its thinner AND lighter AND looks much sexier (sans the fact that the back will be a fingerprint magnet)...
Ugh. But I know it'll be wreckless if I would get it, simply because my TF suits all my needs perfectly as is. I've yet to be gone long enough away from a power source to seriously go "Wish I had a bigger battery life!" with this thing, I rarely watch movies on it (at least right now during school.. if I get any free time I'd rather spend it playing games ATM) and pretty much dedicate my time to web browsing, notes, or typing stuff.
Let me just say after I've used the first and arguably worst Android tablet for a week almost, that you will NOT be disappointed with anything you choose. I actually like the Xoom because it's solid and I can throw it around without worry, and the power button is actually in a nice spot (although not obvious to the average Joe.)
Just sayin, Prime is the best next-gen so far, but even then, any current gen is astounding. Some are just better than others.
what was the worst tablet again?
what was the worst tablet again?
Well they all have their strengths and weaknesses, but I'd say the Xoom
It's bulky, heavy, not even IPS, not a full USB port like some tablets...
I dunno, the Thrive seems very bad.

We have some worse Chinese tablets
We have some worse Chinese tablets
Those don't count, I'm talking about the Honeycomb highrollers :p
I would not buy any Toshiba or Acer product
I would not buy any Toshiba or Acer product
Eh, with laptops, Acer is like a good HP, affordable and good, and I have an old Toshiba laptop, older than me, that still works with two working batteries.
But for tablets, no.
