Does anyone know where to get XP x64? I'm using my computer as a 3d workstation and XP seems to get the most out of it. However whenever i run programs that need more than 1.5 gig of ram they crash.
I'm told this can be solved with windows xp x64 and windows 7 doesn't seem to do the job. Does anyone have any clue as to where i could buy it?
holy christ do not get windows xp 64 bit, it's the biggest mistake you could possibly make.
How many gb of ram do you have
also, don't get xp x64, get windows 7 64 bit instead.
Windows XP by itself is fine, but i recommend Windows 7 64 bit.
get windows 7 64 bit
I'm not sure if you guys are blind, but the OP definitely mentioned Windows 7 for some reason doesn't do the job.
So OP, instead of uselessly suggesting you buy it, I'm going to ask some questions instead.
- Have you actually tried Windows 7 or did you just -read- that it wouldn't do the job?
- If you've tried it, did you try Windows 7 x86 or x86-64? Windows 7 x86 has similar limitations to XP regarding max memory. If it's x86-64 that you tried, what exactly didn't work?
When I had trouble with a program using more than 1.5GB of ram I had to use a program called Large Address Aware, which fixed the problem for me, try that on the .exe it is having problems with.
windows 7 64-bit has some issues with older applications but I can't imagine any newer applications having any trouble

Care to explain how?

that's mostly because they're 16bit applications.
win7 64bit can "emulate" 32 bit which 99,9% of programs are compatible with.

It doesn't emulate it runs them side by side. The program will load 32-bit modules from SysWOW64. It's not like WOW32 where it passed through an application and changed the data to work.

I've tried both xp-64 and 7-64 bit versions, but the particle and rendering performance is much better on xp-64. I tried them on an unregistered version of them both. There's also some issues with the phenomene editor on sdk faceposer and i don't want to dual boot with xp-x86 and 7-x64.
Is Dreamspark / MSDNAA a possibility?
And also, to alt: just because I'm right and you're wrong doesn't mean I'm dumb. :D
I have Windows XP 32-bit and it works perfectly for me.

Virtualbox?

3D performance
Virtualbox.
They don't exactly go well with each other.

Well, it does support 3d and 2d acceleration. But yeah, it might not be as good as running it natively.
Turn off UAC?
I forgot UAC disables rendering performance.
I was on XP 64-bit up until Windows 7 64-bit came out... not a single problem came up.
As far as I know, the only problem one might have on 64-bit XP is drivers.

Drivers and compatibility.
I installed XP 64-bit edition years ago, and uninstalled it after a week of painful torture.
Got a copy, but thanks for the help i guess.
