most Dell's are not really built to be upgraded unless you buy a new dell so its not going to be a walk in the park, especially with that PSU. Its built to run what it was built to run, no more really.
Go with sbradford's suggestion.
He should be able to upgrade the psu and the cpu and the gpu in the computer cause somebody said he had a inspiron 530 so he should be able to get any am2 cpu and a pci express card.
Also how much RAM do you have/find? You may want to buy an upgrade while your at it if what you found is not sufficient if you have any spare cash left.

Supposedly he is getting more ram from another computer.
Also anybody wondering how long it will take for Umi-hebi to get an alt.

Just interested in how much, Also depending if his grandma's PC uses the same type.. What does his dell's mobo support?
Got to love dell.
My choice would be upgrade to 2 GB of ram (he has VISTA)
And the GPU Bradford posted.
After that PSU and CPU.

He actually doesn't need a new psu if he get the cpu and gpu I posted.
System Requirements: 400 Watt or greater power supply (550 Watt for ATI CrossFireX technology in dual mode) is recommended
For that card you posted.
Site says it only uses 60 wats.
The Cpu uses 125 watts.
That leaves 115 Watts for the rest of the system, which isn't alot.

I'd recommend he got that other PSU you posted anyway.. 300w is shite. But if it works it works... and I'd upgrade to at least 2gb ram..especially if he is running vista.

They say that but a 5870 can run a 400 watt. But yeah if he has the money get a psu.

Wouldn't recommend that really either.. I'm using a OCZ 600w for my 5770

It is kinda overkill for a 5770. You should buy a killAwatt and see how much it is actually taking.

Its a tad over but its really so i won't have to upgrade (hopefully) if i buy a future card, also it was only a £15 price difference between that and a 400w.

Well then you got a good deal.
Wrong slot and over priced gpu. Good psu though.
Also just give me a budget.

Cpu http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103772
Gpu http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102854
You don't need a psu though. Since this gpu doesn't require a pci express cable and you system won't use of 300 watts right now.
You can go up to around $120 on the GPU, if it's like $125, it's fine though.

You do not need a 120 gpu. Since it will be bottlenecked unless you get a new cpu.

The lowest wattage you can get with an OCZ ModXStream Pro PSU is 500w. If you read my last post it also said that it is mainly for if i ever upgrade? I might as well spend another £15 to save myself £50 in the future.
