Looking to make a build about 1000$ What I want: 5870 i7/(AMD equivalence) 4 gb RAM 1 TB HDD Quiet Fans
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=18847808 This should be plenty for you. If you'd prefer Intel, get this Mobo and CPU. It'll cost a bit more though: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115215 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128425 It would go over budget, but you can get rid of the thermal paste and cooler since you won't really need them if you won't overclock. I put them in there in case you wanted to though. Unless you do a lot of rendering, an i5 750 will be plenty for you.
Is the AMD Phenom II X4 955 on the same level as the i5 750? [editline]08:59PM[/editline] Also I'm looking for a 5870, not a 5850. It will run every game out there very smoothly. Plus, if you save up $200-$300 you can get a hexacore CPU with the same motherboard. Both are great gaming processors. Can you reuse any parts from your computer? Like, can you reuse your DVD drive?
My psu is dying and the fan sounds like a jet. (800W) I could reuse the dvd drive but that's about it.
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=17747387
Read the OP. 600W PSU is not needed Same with a 200$ motherboard/5770
Read the OP. 600W PSU is not needed Same with a 200$ motherboard/5770
I've read OP and I disagree with your preferences.
Are you going to be playing DX10/11 games like Metro 2033 and Bad Company 2? If so, get a GTX 470.
yes, but I'm not getting a 470
why not?
He probably prefers ATI, which is reasonable since they'be been doing pretty damn good recently. I've heard some good things about the new Nvidia series though.
Because it's my choice and I'm not starting a flamewar [editline]10:13PM[/editline] @Kiwi, is the PSU you recommended quiet? 600W seems a bit overkill
I'm pretty sure it will, I have a PSU from the same company and it's pretty silent. And 600w should be about right, I wouldn't drop down to 500w if you're going for a 5870 and a high end processor.

That should do it, I would say take the cooler on my list and the thermal paste and overclock. It will increase your performance in games.
Is the cooler/paste really necessary? I don't really plan on overclocking. And do I need any other minor parts for this first time build?
Is the cooler/paste really necessary? I don't really plan on overclocking. And do I need any other minor parts for this first time build?
You don't need a third party cooler or paste if you won't be overclocking, unless you want something more efficient and quiet.
Well, a good cooler will decrease temperatures, but it won't matter if you're not overclocking. You shouldn't need anything but a screwdriver (which you probably have if you changed a video card). I'd also recommend going here: http://pcityourself.com/ Building your computer should be easy enough though.
Alright thanks!
not the fanboy I thought you were nice to hear we have one person who isn't stupid in this damned section. enjoy your build! have you ordered it?
not the fanboy I thought you were nice to hear we have one person who isn't stupid in this damned section. enjoy your build! have you ordered it?
Haven't ordered yet, doing that tomorrow since it's late.
I recommend this case. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147120&cm_re=smart_one-_-11-147-120-_-Product
Yes, the Rosewill cases are great.
Case looks bigger and better, I guess I'll use it.
Build never happened, but it is tomorrow/today. Here's what I came up with Huge combo deal on, and it fit what I was looking for. Thoughts?
That's a pretty sweet combo deal. Go ahead with it I would say.
Do I need a SSD or is a Windows cd just fine?
Do I need a SDD or is a Windows cd just fine?
Whaaaaa?
Do I need a SDD or is a Windows cd just fine?
Say what?
