I suppose the ones that don't have uselessly shitty 7 actual speakers do implement some form of HRTF, the question is which, and whether or not they upmix stereo at all times, which they shouldn't. You're probably better off getting a normal pair and investing in an X-fi or a Xonar instead.

Based on your budget, the first one is certainly a good choice.
facepunch doesn't realize newegg doesn't mean anything except for for computers and is generally crap for headphones

Gamecom 777's. I bought mine new for $10 on ebay.
They offer amazing stereo sound (music, skype, etc)
And Incredible Surround (Gaming, 5.1 Movies, etc)
I sometimes take my headset off because I think my speakers are on and up too loud, only to find out that its just my headset creating great spacial effects. 1/4 of my lan club have these and anyone that doesnt wishes they did.
As for this stupidity that surround sound is a gimmick: You can hear directionally. The concept is that the virtual surround is played on both speakers in such a way that it mimics real life (hitting one ear just before the other). Google it.
