You know just visting a page thats invected can install a virus right?
I don't use one either, common sense is more than enough. I haven't had a virus in over 4 years now, so I think that's good enough as confirmation that common sense works (I sometimes download an AV to scan and see if there is one, so no it's not just me not noticing it). Plus even if I got a virus, I'd download an AV and remove it (or format the HDD if needed).
You're being foolish. Even if you think you're making safe decisions and not downloading shit from random sketchy websites your computer can still be infected. The whole concept of a computer worm for example is that it doesn't need any human intervention to spread and execute. The most dangerous types of malware are the ones that don't go around advertising the fact that they've infected your system.
I haven't used a virus scanner in years. After spending alot of time on the internet, you start to realize what you should and shouldn't download. Been virus free since then, only kind of PC fixing software I have installed is Registry Mechanic. [editline]12th February 2011[/editline]
You're being foolish. You must have some top secret information that someone wants badly. The average joe virus requires some assistance on the user's end to actually run.
You know just visting a page thats invected can install a virus right?
a file cannot be downloaded AND executed without your say, unless there's some java exploit.
a file cannot be downloaded AND executed without your say, unless there's some java exploit.
or the site uses Flash for anything.
Me too :buddy: I put AVG free on it for kicks. I use MSE on my desktop.
AVG...Mac..? WHERE, I WANT IT!
a file cannot be downloaded AND executed without your say, unless there's some java exploit.
Or a simple buffer overflow or similar, theres exploits for most browsers
disable autorun and have a decent on-demand scanner and you're all good.
a file cannot be downloaded AND executed without your say, unless there's some java exploit.
It can on Windows.
It can on Windows.
no it can't

A worm replicates itself by exploiting services on remote machines then automatically loading a copy of itself to that machine. The process doesn't require anyone to be tricked into executing an infected file, it relies on a flaw in the operating system/service that the user wouldn't know about.
My netbook has nothing, since I just use it for School, Steam chatting and MSN chatting. My desktop only has Comodo and Malwarebytes on a secondary bootable drive. I really don't need Antivirus. I hardly do anything that would require it. I know which sites are safe and which are dodgy.

Well played.
Linux. =p
I use anit-biotics, I mean how do you fit a norton cd through your mouth?
you don't, it's a suppository.
Umm, linux gets viruses.
It's true! [img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5182016/spysheriffubuntu.png[/img_thumb]
I use Avast, pretty lightweight and pretty good.
Umm, linux gets viruses.
Last I checked, Linux viruses are possible and do exist, but so far all that have been made are proof-of-concept viruses. This was about a year ago now, I think, so someone might have made a virus for Linux by now.
I tried this so called common sense doesn't work for me because I always want this epic file for gmod. Then few days later I get epic BSODS.
I use Windows Defender.
I mean they pretty much took all my speed and fcked my pc with every new virus found and i had to eventually reinstall windows xp so i said fuck it and never used one since then 1 year with no problems there are some viruses that don't do anything bad :colbert:

I use common sense 2011.
You people deserve to get infected with botnet. I can't understand how ignorant and dumb you are. You have unprotected sex aswell because the viruses are ok and cool, right?
You people deserve to get infected with botnet. I can't understand how ignorant and dumb you are. You have unprotected sex aswell because the viruses are ok and cool, right?
Yeah bro, some viruses don't do anything bad. Like AIDS Wait a minute...
Only thing I use is Spybot's Tea-timer, which is simply something that runs in the background to notify me whenever anything gets changed in the registry, and if I want to approve it first. Pretty much makes you immune since viruses need access to the registry to work effectively. Just don't click "allow" to anything that sounds suspicious. That said, the only registry pop up I get is the occasional flash player update program wanting to install itself in the background (which I deny, the bastards).
Avast. Only avast. Common sense won't protect against common java exploits and stuff.
I use Avast!, and my alternative to Avast! is Microsoft Security Essentials but Common Sense 2011 runs pretty well and only uses my brain as a resource.
Linux.
I don't use a real time AV, though I have Malware Bytes installed and run it... Never. I keep my stuff up to date, use virustotal to scan suspected files downloaded from sketchy sites and don't have UAC disabled. This strategy doesn't work for everyone, like my two brothers who need NOD32 or their computer will burst into flames / need to be reimaged. After spending an entire Saturday reinstalling Windows on their computers and my mother's copy of Norton finally ran out, we ended up getting a 3 pack of NOD32 for two years. I never had to fix their copy of Windows again, excellent software. It's normally out of the way, though has excellent real-time protection. I previously had AVG on their computers, but it was overrun and didn't stop shit. After the two years ran out, I installed MSE on their computers. I'm pretty sure they've matured and don't click on everything they see, which has helped tremendously. One of them is on Windows 7 with a new machine, which has greatly improved security compared to XP, which ran on the old machine that I gave him at the time. The other brother is on Vista, though a great deal of the problems he had were hardware related (Dell Vostro 1510. Experienced a broken screen, cracked palmrests, the infamous Nvidia Geforce chipset problem, dead DVD drive and now has a problem where the RAM randomly becomes unseated. We got our money's worth from that warrenty...).
I use BitDefender, but I am thinking of uninstalling it and just use MSE... I guess I won't be installing it again after next format.
you don't, it's a suppository.
Oooh I see EDIT: Not a very good one, I mean after sucking on the disk for a few minutes these weird colors are flying around and I think I have dragons in my kitchen _----_
Umm, linux gets viruses.
No it doesn't. If you manage to get some kind of malware on Linux you shouldn't be allowed to touch a PC.
