Netgear / Linksys.
The firewall must have broke through and burned you.
Linksys WRT350N running DD-WRT.
Hey look, another poor soul who uses charter!
Oxymoron.
So a company owned by one of the best and probably largest computer network corporations in excistance makes bad routers? :snoop:
NETGEAR's drivers are complete fail, don't even bother.
Netgear's routers and switches are excellent and incredible stable, and I have only once came across a bad driver, with a 11Mbit wifi adapter about 5 years ago.

Yeah, I like Netgear's WGR-614 v7. It's a rock-solid performer, and gets excellent range, comparable to my D-Link DIR-615.
So a company owned by one of the best and probably largest computer network corporations in excistance makes bad routers?
Wow, what a fucking naive view of the business world you have. It doesn't make a fucking difference. Their products are fucking crappy lightweight pieces of shit and only marginally passable when you install a 3rd party firmware on them. I'm sure in time cisco might be able to fix them up, but don't think for one minute you'll get ios on them lol. I mean, my 6 year old wrt54gs is still running perfectly. but all routers last that long don't they?
Netgear is fine, you just have to learn to get used to the interface. And if the interface is really bugging you then just install dd-wrt or something. I'm using a Netgear WNDR3700 that replaced a Netgear WGT-624. Also after years of use my WGT-624 seemed to get orange scorch marks on the casing.

Ahem. Stop arguing about your shitty routers. Belkin rocks, I love my n1+n1 vision setup.
Haha, kid says that cisco's home routers suck
Kid? Thanks for the laugh! Linksys != Cisco in the same way Skoda != VW. Seriously, for someone who claims to have passed his cisco exams, you should know better.
I used to have a router connected. But ever since i notice some idiots stealing my wifi (i have password, but they bypassed it) i stopped and just connected the MODEM directly to my PC
I love my asus WL-520GU with tomato on it. Networked my printer with the included USB port, and I have it set up so that if you access it as a network share it has a small batch file to install it. I haven't had to restart it since I got it, and I think it's been up solidly for a good 5-6 months so far. [editline]11:30AM[/editline] I also just felt the exhaust on it, it's only slightly warm.
What would be good custom firmware for a belkin router?

Can't beat that
There's always liquid N2, but I don't think anyone have the guts (or is crazy enough) to cool a router with it.

i have a crappy linksys WRT54G router, its pretty annoying and it messes up my internet often, have to power cycle it like daily. how can i install that dd-wrt stuff up the page. oh and...
I had an old Belkin from about 2005 used with an ntl modem, it used to crash all the time so I bought a Linksys, that thing refused to work with one of my computers so I sold it and went back to the Belkin. Last year it was working fine but I ended up having to buy a new router (Netgear WGR614v9) so I could prove to Virgin that when the connection was failing it was their problem (they still wouldn't have any of it and in the end it was their ancient modem). The Netgear is the best one I've used, shame I'm gonna have to ditch it when we switch to Sky and are forced to use their shitty router. :(
Got this a few months ago when it was on sale for $24 and free shipping. Really solid router once you find out the quirks to it (Tomato wasn't working for me until I reset the NVRAM or something). My old shitty Linksys WRT54G2 would slow the fuck down constantly, this never does. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833166032

[img_thumb]http://www.convergedigest.com/images/articles/v12n140-2wire.jpg[/img_thumb] Had this before we moved, it was awesome except we only ordered 3mbit internet D: Modem, Wireless Router, Cable gateway all in one. Worked amazingly.
My friend has one Their internet dies every ten minutes and you have to turn it off and on. It sucks. Also, I've had horrible experience with Linksys, they always crap out on us. Our netgear is working great, although the drivers suck hard.
I plan on buying this when I get paid next: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833122326 My dream router. I'm currently stuck on a Wireless B (Yes, B... not even G.) router from Linksys.
Has anyone with router problems ever tried changing the wireless frequency? Cordless phones and whatnot can mess with routers royally.
My friend has one Their internet dies every ten minutes and you have to turn it off and on. It sucks. hard.
Never had a problem with mine. Works 24/7.
