Only I'm not trolling. Dual graphics doesn't give you twice the performance so logically speaking it's a waste of money and power usage. Say hello to your heightened electric bill.
I really could not care less for the extra 60 watts it uses.
Do you know a small 1 room airconditioner takes 3000 Watts?
550W is really pushing it

?? No 550W PSUs here.
Of course it doesn't give you double performance but it is more economical to get dual cards than a more powerful single card a lot of the time. You computer doesn't take a ton of power. If you want to make it so it isn't using more power turn off 1 100watt light bulb and look the power usage of your home remains constant.
Really? Computers these days take up a whole lot of power (if you're going to get statistics, don't get them from Tom's Bribeware). If you don't get twice the performance with two of the same card in a multi-graphics card setup then it is not economical. Plus, you're building up a lot much more heat and making it harder for cool air to reach the graphics cards due to the tight space that they create.

Almost twice the performance for less than twice the power usage. Really inefficient.
Ph0ne what do you mean by Tom's Bribeware? Are you saying they're payed to fix benchmarks? d'you have any proof?

VNL thanks for banning him and all, can you make it permanent so this troll can't ever be an idiot again?
lol. so im concluding that dual video card setups are good. btw im not paying electric bill, my dad is, so i relaly don't care. however, doesn't even 1 5870 make it possible to run any game on the market with maxed out resolution, textures, etc, even Crysis Warhead? cuz if just one 5870 can run any game on max, theres not really a point having 2...

Pretty much yes, the only point in having a second would be if you wanted amazing performance while using 2+ monitors for gaming.

Ok. So I need a $900 Gaming PC not including the OS, with a 5870 Graphics Card. Thanks.

A 550 Seasonic is pushing it for one 5770? I don't think so.
Multi-graphics card solutions are the biggest scam in computer hardware history. All you're doing is increasing heat and power usage, not performance. I laugh at anyone who falls for the bullshit benchmarks.
Really?
That must be why nearly all reputable internet hardware communities rate crossfire and sli above only using one of the same card. Obviously tom's hardware is being bribed so they include slied or crossfired cards in every system builder marathon and graphics card hierarchy list just because ATi and Nvidia want to lose money by promoting cheaper cards with lower profit margins.
Also, we shouldn't trust benchmarks because they are inaccurate, no-sir-ee. We need to trust a troll on a video games forums.

it is for the overall setup. just because the system requirements may say 500W minimum for the videocard doesn't mean it covers the entire system.
This is what I just ordered last Friday, it's a little over $900 from the shipping and tax (which may vary depending on where you live) but I think it's a good build, for now.

Just to let you know I did not get this card: The original set up that I ordered included an EVGA GeForce GTX 260 which was $214 (at the time I thought it was a good deal but after further investigation I found that the 4890 performs much better than this for a little less)

I never like cases that come with psu's. Mainly because they either come faulty or end up dying in a month.
I never like cases that come with psu's. Mainly because they either come faulty or end up dying in a month.
Even if the psu that comes with the case is an Antec EarthWatts PSU?
it is for the overall setup. just because the system requirements may say 500W minimum for the videocard doesn't mean it covers the entire system.
Yes it does.
If you get a 5870 I think you should go for a Corsair TX 650 PSU, but a 500-550 would still be be enough if you want to get that.
500w can power a 5870.
Still, I would go with a 550W for the extra wiggle room.

I found a great deal on Tigerdirect http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3276574&Sku=ULT-LSP550
I'm gonna be ordering it soon. (I hate my 380W Raidmax...)
If OP wants to save a shitload on PSU and put the money saved into something else go ahead. Just thought I'd share this deal with you.

9800GTX+ in SLI gets a few frames more than the 9800GX2 in Crysis, and the GTX 280 gets about the same performance as the 9800GX2 according to maxishine's other video comparing them.
I already have a 9800GTX+ so for around the same price of the same brand GTX280, I get a couple frames extra if I do SLI.
Only problem being, a game might not support SLI. Most new games do though.
The minimum PSU requirement is 600W I believe.
http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine says I only need 427W, Which is probably wrong.
The HD4850 in crossfire will get higher frames than the 9800GTX+ in SLI(according to various benchmarks), is cheaper, and should have the same power requirements. Too bad I'm stuck with and XFX 780i board.
The 427 watts is not wrong.
So I could run 9800GTX+ in SLI on a 500W, with an overclocked CPU?
I guess it's more a question of amps.
Get a 5850 for around the price of 2 9800gtx+s.
Wait... When did 9800s come into the picture?
Poor choice.
