You play games, right? That's the big reason for all the shit you got. I have a computer right now that will max Crysis and cost $1200. Which means you overspent by $1300.
Then what would you get instead. They were meant to go in place of two 480's because of better price and way better performance. So its somewhat justified. Also my ram was 150$ on sale, I only planned on getting one kit.

How is it overpriced and how is it a piece of junk?

go back to the apple forum
SLI GTX 470's maybe, the third one isn't really adding that much performance. I just find it stupid since the 6*** is coming out now.
thats not the main reason I bought the system, its hardly its main purpose. Some people use their PC's for heavy duty compiling and other CPU related tasks like video editing.

My Pc can near enough max Crysis at a playable-ish FPS, it cost even less than that. £700 give or take a few quid.

I dislike ati because of their driver issues my parents experience.

most 09+ pcs will max crysis easily.

And what is the most heavy duty compiling you do? Programs don't need a supercomputer to compile fast, neither do models, in fact, video editing only needs it if you are making anything longer than 30 minutes half the time.

So if gaming is only a secondary purpose of the machine, how come you call it an "enthusiast" machine? And why did you get 3 GTX 470s?
And what is the most heavy duty compiling you do? Programs don't need a supercomputer to compile fast, neither do models, in fact, video editing only needs it if you are making anything longer than 30 minutes half the time.
C++, Source Maps and some crap models.

Because 3 470's are better than 2 480's so I choose that to save money and get better performance.

It would be classified under an Enthusiast Gaming machine.
C++, Source Maps and some crap models.
Only if your C++ project is something oddly huge would you need a $2k PC. Even my old AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ would compile a lot of C++ projects using GCC in a few seconds/ minutes. And source maps are just slow compilers by nature, any old CPU can handle those if you actually optimize them, yes even the grid maxing maps.

:wtc: is all I can say to this post.
Sure it is nice having that kind of PC, but was it really necessary?
Damn you, I wasn't quite fast enough to automerge this.
The project isn't huge but I need to add optimization to it, however what exactly is wrong with the 980x especially because I got it for 500$
:wtc: is all I can say to this post.
why
Getting it for half price is understandable, but did you really have to spend that much on GPUs? Jumping straight into SLI/ tri-SLI systems just seems a bit retarded, one GPU could probably do what you need, if not then you could get a second, the third probably is such a marginal performance boost it was just a waste.
He's already wasted the money. There's no point in getting annoyed at him for a stupid choice he made in the past.
I dislike ati because of their driver issues my parents experience.
If they perform better, that's not really a valid reason. And did you see how the 470's price tag dropped when the 6*** came closer?
It would be classified under an Enthusiast Gaming machine.
Who would care of that, seriously?
I was going to get 2 GTX 480's but the price + performance of 3 way SLi 470s outweighs the 480s in SLi. Plus the GTX 470's. The 470's and 465s were also on sale so it appeared to be a reasonable choice.
I wish MacTrekkie would stop deamonizing me :sigh:

I purchased them when the price dropped, I was using one for a while.

Wasting? Feh.
why
Because you're doing Source maps and C++ and a couple shitty models. Which means you are playing games for the most part and NO GAMES WHAT SO EVER need 3 GTX 470s. Hardly any games need ONE GTX 470. And $500 is still far to much for a gaming processor. As is 6 cores. Since you got it half off, I am assuming your grandpa could have picked just about any processor he wanted, why not get an i7 870? Far more cost effective and will still do more than you'd ever need it to. The whole system was an excersize in bragging rights, nothing more.
HOLY FUCK MY BUILD WASN'T GAMING ORIENTED
HOLY FUCK MY BUILD WASN'T GAMING ORIENTED

HOLY FUCK THEN WHY DOES IT HAVE 3 GTX 470S?
And a C++ project is not an excuse to call it not gaming oriented. Especially since you yourself classified it as an enthusiasts gaming machine.
I have explained over and over why I got the 470's, jesus are you people that thick.

I don't think we've even seen a CPU-Z or Speccy output. Which anyone who buys a enthusiast build usually does straight away.
